I've said to my son a number of times that I honestly don't know how the hell I'm still alive with how often I just went for walks at night when I was younger, & I started doing it at a much younger age than 16 too!!
What happened to that sweet young girl was so awful. May Colette Rest in Peace xxx
My mother used to lock me out of the house and I spent many nights living rough as a child. I'm so lucky to be alive, I've done so much stupid stuff.
As a parent of three now, it breaks my heart that a lovely young girl can be taken from her family. RIP Collette.
@@fionamackie3357that's horrible being locked out,my heart is breaking 4u.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Mee too! My mum was wicked, said not even the pedos would want me because I was ginger 👀👀 Can you imagine that now 🤯
It's the same for me. I'm 43 and am astounded I survived being young and confident. But I think it truly must be the case that these instances of random stranger, intentional murders are very rare (statistically)
Having your child die is earth shattering. Knowing they suffered in the process takes it to a whole new level of horrific....
Yes, and knowing that suffering was because of another person makes it even worse.
most horrific case along with chad and lori of course
AGREE!❤❤ NEVER A DAY OF PEACE FOR THAT 46:33 FAMILY. GOD BLESS THEM.❤❤
The intrinsic, intuitive resonance that a mother has for her child should never be discounted nor ignored.
Still, it is; and quite often.
Intrinsic? Female intuition?
Unfortunately there is no such thing as a telepathic bond between mother and child. And to say so is condescending towards not only every loving father but also every mother who has lost a child and didn't 'feel' it when their child was dying.
If a teen goes missing and their entire family tell the police that they feel something is wrong well that's when the police should take the report seriously and jump into action.
My heartfelt sympathy to the victim’s family. Heartbreaking to see her mother- a big hug to her and lots of prayers.
Even after this monster killed the innocent girl , he walked free for 25 years . Unbelievable
Yep and imprisoned he killd himself! Obviously he woodn't b punished 4 his crime
Blaming his dead brother! What a foul piece of s!
My thoughts exactly!
I have no words for how disgusting of a person he is
I would say anyone who is prepared to kill someone would have no qualms in throwing ANY relative under a bus. Alive or dead.
What a horrible excuse for a man he's lived his life for 25 years knowing what he'd done. Lied throughout his life even proporting to have cancer. I think this was excellent police work after 25 years I dont think he ever imagined he'd be caught and then going on to blame his dead brother. I remember this case 25 years ago. Rest in peace beautiful Colette you did not deserve this and love to her mum who's life was ruined forever because of this pervert. Kudos to our police force.
Imagine after 25 years you was arrested
I bet he thinks he get away with it
Great police work
Very sad case😭 So happy they found her killer.
Poor Mom and Dad 😢
I,d vote for the death penalty in iron clad cases.
That mother, that had her soul scarred, practically begged her daughter to NOT walk alone at night. May the Lord rest her daughter's spirit, and grant this mother peace. BTW, as far as Mr. Wonderful..."Vengeance is mine." - saith the Lord
Yes, this could happen to anyone. I could picture wanting to walk at her age on a nice night. I was 18 when this took place. I loved walking at night at that time. So yeah, it could happen to anyone. Kinda wished her Mom insisted even more in driving her and giving her no choice, but she probably thought they didn't live in a dangerous neighborhood. My Mom was so strict that she would drive around to make sure i was going where i should be. So embarrasing! Now i look back and realize that i gave my Mom concern to be really strict with me. Where this girl was a good girl that her Mom didn't have to keep an eye out on her and a bad thing happened. It was NOT Collette's fault at all, but that man still had to meet his maker after committing suicide.
Wth?, he gave his pregnant wife oxy to miscarry? Why the heck didn't he get a vasectomy if he knew he truly didn't want another kid..sheesh, take responsibility for your own procreation man, for heaven's sake people. Men need to step it up!!
So extremely sad. Ugh, I feel for the family. He no doubt got off easy.. 🤬
Implicated his dead brother. How low can these inhumane zombies go.
Her murderer did what he did because he's is now and was then a coward.
DNA such an amazing discovery I hope any man who has committed crimes like this is caught and spends the twilight years in prison and when they get out which they probably will because British sentences are rubbish everyone knows what they are.
Such an old case but wTched again. Rip Colette
Great police work. 😊
Thank the police and everyone else for never giving up.
Clearly, this is not something he'd done only once, hence the lack of explanation.
He was shopping around for a young girl without covering up his identity - which means he meant to kill from the very get go. I'm convinced he'd done it several times during his lifetime.
Great police work he got caught
You would think you are safe at 8pm at night, so many what ifs, if only her boyfriend had left moments quicker, cycled faster to meet her on her way to his. If only the mum had stood in front of the front door and said no I am driving you there. If only her friends she bumped into were walking the same way as her, if only, if only 😞 Colette had a sweet and innocent face so I wonder if that is why he decided to kidnap her. May he burn in hell & also her poor brother who saw her deceased and uncovered, just gut wrenching nightmare that her poor family never got to wake up from
How we as a society of humans continue to breed these monsters. What are we doing wrong, will we ever live in total peace in this world.
Colette ❤🙏
Don't go near cars and if he says can I drop you some where keep a way from his car keep your self safe😅
R.I.P. TO COLLETTE ARAM. SADNESS FOR HER FAMILY . AS FOR THE PERPERATOR HMMM, HE IS BREATHING FRESH AIR ! 3- MEALS A PER DAY! EXCERCISE !! INTERNET ON GOOD BEHAVIOUR! POCKET MONEY! PRISON FAR TOO GOOD ! NO DETERRENT !!! HENCE, SO MANY MURDER'S. FROM, U.K. (2023).
No he killed himself
25 y!!! Wooooow!!!😮
Why do men do this? It happens so often.
RIP!
Too bad the doctor did not wait
1984?
🥺❤🥺❤🥺...
Music spoilt this for me
An actual dose of reality from parents to their kids would be very normal... had this been the case that young lady would have straight up paid attention to her mothers advice that day... Fact was that she, like many others, was completely oblivious to that 100% real world out there. Full of deadly animal activity.... if parents want to raise their children in a manufactured bubble by all means carry on... Won't be long before 'reality comes knocking on your door!
Knicker Lane 🤣🤣🤣
This was one of the first reconstruction on crimewatch UK,
He committed suicide in prison but he still had 25 more years than Colette on this earth.
I don’t think when he approached that easy - planed well
Day before stole the car - night after easy tried to catch the minders - without been worried to be seen - this was never his first time - sure not last either
He did have a habit for sex crimes - he knew how to do it - he knew he was smarter then cops - how ? Cause he done it & they didn’t know him - so he did it again and again
I think if they looked around same type of crimes on minders they sure could find more . And he killed himself because he thought he was untouchable. Sad for victims & their families, their life sentence it’s forever .
I didn't realise he committed suicide I knew e had died but wasn't aware of that 🙏
Then he did to himself what the state should have done to him. Executed the evil bastard!
27 years actually
The police were really bad in the early 80s . I was treat in such an appalling manner in 1986 after i suffered an extremely violent stranger attack that ruined my life and families life forever . I was acussed if lying it left me even more traumatized my patents died not knowing who had attacked me. Then 24 yrs later through DNA they said they had traced his identity and arressted him. He went to prison for ten years but he had lived a life and i had not my life was ruined. He did five years and was out on a one years licence and was free. Well keast he was caught my friends said was put onto VISOR for life. Im so sorry for this mother and her family my attacker was brutal and had a knife.but I survived .It can happened to anyone, in any town i lived in a safe place in fact the first thing the police said to me was " things like that dont happen here " .
Sorry that happened to you. You didn’t deserve it. I hope you have peace in the future.
I'm sorry thank you for sharing ❤
How horrific your lifelong suffering and your poor sweet family too , I’m so sorry .
Well F him!!!
You deserved so much better! It’s my belief that if men were assaulted and raped in the numbers that women are POLICE AND THE COURTS would be coming down exponentially harder !!! Women are still valued as less important than men! 🤬
I hate this sentence: " things like that dont happen here ". Things like that happen everywhere.
How sad that this little girl couldn't walk to her boyfriends house without getting killed. She and I are the same age, my heart goes out to her mother missing out on all the things a mother gets to experience, graduations, weddings, grandchildren. I hope that guy is burning in hell.
Some murders are incredibly difficult to solve but huge credit to the police for not abandoning a cold case and for supporting the forensic scientist in is wish to re-check the DNA records. What we tend not to realize is that the police are doing this work primarily for the family. It took a great team to crack this one.
Police were a big fucking help. "Call us in 3 hours if shes not back yet" Were they for fucking real! They would be out in seconds if you were Parked wrong....😡😡
Police once again a complete let down.
@@SaraT-x4q I would like to think that attitudes to missing persons, when the behaviour is out of character, have changed since the 1980s. It's now accepted that the first 48 hours are crucial.
In any case the team that persisted with the cold case, are not the same people who didn't look for the teenager.
Ok
The DNA scientists and police involved in this case deserve MBE’s. May Collette rest in peace now ❤
Is 40 years since she's been murdered
That poor mother must have really struggled with all the what ifs like what if she'd driven her or said the boyfriend had to come and walk with her etc for a very long time. I know i'd struggle to let that go :( My heart goes out to her.
I would, too. Absolutely not her fault and my heart is with her. It could happen to any of us. I don't know how you ever find peace after something like that.
Listen to your family about safety and accept a lift from them.
Always there's no safe place out there
Poor girl had her life taken away in her most exciting years. This man was a selfish beast that had no compassion or guilt at what he had done. RIP Collet. Feel so sorry for her mum and dad and brother and family. Senseless killing. He only had a short time in prison, Colett's family has suffered since she died.
So the SOB killed himself? What a coward! As usual
Pity he didn't do it 25 years earlier
I hope, he serves the rest of sentence in hell now.
He’s dead. Good riddance. I hope he suffered immensely in his last moments, and that all moments leading up to it were painful as well.
These aren’t very nice thoughts, but I can’t say I’m sorry for feeling this way.
Also - thank God that little girl he met earlier had her dog with her. Being with the dog, which would’ve probably been ready to fight for her and cause a ruckus, scared him off and most likely saved her life. I wish he hadn’t found another victim though…
Why can’t these people lose control over the vehicle they’re driving and suffer some deadly accident before finding a victim to harm?
I agree the music spoils it and so loud puts me off
This killer was a real psycho , a liar and a vicious killer . He lied to his family and then blamed his own brother . What a disgusting coward .
This was a true murder mystery that grips you until the very end. Well done to the police for unwavering commitment to solving this crime.
Totally agree but I had difficulty hearing the dialogue through the background music!
It really annoys me when the police do not act immediately when a person is missing. A mother knows her children and being told to WAIT is unbelievable. Every moment is vital.
I agree it is soo insulting & can be harmful
First she was a teen and sometimes if the have a bf or anotger boy friend they think they with a bf and it different if it a little boy or girl under 6 so u cant blame them it what the lae was so stop judging everyone think they no thier kids my daughter was 14 and she stold out til next day just because she was having fun with friends because i was a bit stict so many kids do tgat so it why they lije that i looked like a fool telling she a good never did and she did do tgat so u cant judge teen just because mom think they never did that sometimes they do to be with friends and boyfriend and my mom also was in police department looking for me i was hiding in attic so u cant judge the cops
@chiflores2634 EITHER learn to spell, type, proof read or do word check/spell check b4 u post ur comments bc nobody can understand ur point with all ur grammatical errors! Better yet mayb not even comment!
Put yourself in the police shoes...a 16 yr old independent girl goes out to go to her boyfriends and an hour later a parent rings and says her daughetr is missing.... they acted corectly and said if she didn't come back at her normal time, to phone them again.....
Died in custody hope it was painful
You just wrecked it for me
He's believed to have died from an overdose of pills, so I'm afraid not. He spent a very short time in jail and seems to have decided he didn't find it enjoyable enough for his liking. What a POS! 🤬
Why? Wouldn't have changed anything.
Thankfully it wasn't. He committed suicide .
@mitchand9 surely you know why. In this case he deserved the death penalty if it was still legal. when people say this it is felt that the murderer has got what they deserve after what they put their victim through, the fear, the pain, the horror of knowing what's coming. But he didn't feel anything like that as he committed suicide. But it's a shame he didn't die looking into the eyes of his murderer after being ra**ed and brutally attacked that's WHY 😊 as the mother it would make me feel better knowing that this scumbag wasn't breathing the same air. He lived 25 years after her death with his disgusting secret, it would have made a lot of people feel he deserved to die a painful and horrific death like dear Collette
What a horrible man to blame his dead brother glad they got him amasing the technology they have now
What a chance find, the paper towel! Just amazing, and what fabulous work by Dr Claytons forensics and research.
Great work by all in the team in finally bringing this piece of S…t to justice. R.I.P dear Collete. I send Condolences and love to her family💐🙏🏻
Poor Collette, her poor family. I'm glad they found this creature. Rest in peace Collette.
Bad parenting, ur 16 yrs old should be home doin school work instead of lookin for boyfriend .
I agree with taking away his humanity, creature or number is appropriate for most of our killers.
Creature, I like it.👍
@@marvingraham7487 Not necessarily bad parenting, most 16 year olds are a bit rebellious to some extent.
@marvingraham7487 I'm sure her mum doesn't need to see this comment after all she's been through. She offered Colette a lift plus a lot of 16 year olds have a boyfriend. She may have already done her homework.
It seems unreal that this man would approach 3 girls in one night, and not have committed any subsequent crimes for the rest of his life. But this guy lied to his loved ones about having a deadly disease, and then tried to frame his own dead brother for an unspeakable crime he himself committed. A real class act.
Oh my. Just so want to hug Jacqui. And all of Collette's family. My children are all adults now but you never stop worrying about them. I can't imagine their loss but my heart is with them❤
A pity he only did 10 months in prison for his despicable crime 😡
That sentence is another crime.
@@TheDriftwoodlover He died in prison of an overdose, 8 months into a life (minimum of 25 years) sentence.
@@sallyrose8075Really? Was it a s*icide?
For those of you old enough to remember, this was the very first reconstruction on the very first episode of Crimewatch
Turn back ground music off. Spoils video.
I agree. Sounds depressing
Totally agree, really unnecessary.
So very sorry for her mother and brother. Sad so evil this man was. For sure he’s burning now 🔥🔥
Her mother looks so young for her age.collette must have been born in 1967.
Yeah thought so to she looks good.
Right! coz I was thinking to myself that collets friend looks more like collets' mothers friend.
She’d be 56 this year so that mother must be in her 70’s, she looks about 56
Think this was filmed quite some time ago

Considering what she's been through
Thank God Thank you Doctors Thank you Policemen and Detectives and DNA AT LAST THE MONSTER WHO RAPED AND KILLED COLETTE WAS BEHIND BARS.
REST IN PEACE COLETTE.
I feel so bad for Jacqui Kirkby, Colette's mother. She was going to insist on driving her daughter & Colette talked her out of it.
It sucks that Colette cudn't walk dwn the street & be safe. Collette had every right to get to her boyfriend's on her own. Unfortunately if a predator is hunting that means u r not safe. Even if u shud hav the right to be. People just can't take risks b/c u nvr know who will take advantage.. Unfortunately thr r always people u nvr know where, who will opportunize in the most evil way.
So sad. But why destroy a beautiful young girl ? He's a monster .
It is so incredible to know the time and amount of work put in by everybody in the investigation finally brought this result. I admire their dedication for this length of time.
Why keep saying 16 year old hairdresser? Wtf she was a kid
Reason 1001 to be grateful for modern science. RIP Collette, and best wishes to the family. I currently have a sixteen year old daughter myself.
I can't help but wonder how many more women he has raped and killed. Was this his first, I am quite sure it wasn't his last. Selfish nasty monsters like this don't care about the pain they cause others, only what they want. I know the police did that absolute best they could, and justice ( if you can call it that) 25 years late is better than no justice at all. I would say justice would have been raping and killing him, but we aren't the monsters, he is. Well done to the police and DNA scientists. Prayers out to Collette's mother and family. It is difficult to move past the murder of a loved one, but that intense aching heart of missing them never goes away.
Prayers out to his family too, I can't imagine how painful it must be for his parentsand family to know they had a monster in their midst.
Gosh but the work it took to match the DNA. Something that takes hours now. AMAZING
How sad. I’m the same age as Colette and was also just starting life in 1983. I’d finished my high school early and was attending first year university, paying my way by working in the research library. My now husband and I had just started dating. So sorry for you. May Colette’s memory live on and may she RIP. 👼 ☁️
Her poor mother..i can't imagine something happening to one of my 4 girls.. Thanks to the detectives and team for not giving up and to DNA advancements! Rip Colette 💕
I am the 4rth girl of for girl's I am 53 now 👍
My heart hurts for this mother I lost my son to an auto accident and I too cried out upon hearing of his death totally know that screaming out upon hearing it💔💔💔💔I’m so sorry for you and totally understand the situation. I can’t even understand her pain for so many years. Her girl was an amazing young lady ❤️I’m offering her the past isn’t what we grieve it’s the future without them in it we grieve. We know who they were and her friends have confirmed it, the way they died doesn’t define her it’s her absolutely how they live is what confirmed their life ❤ Sending her my love and strength ❤️❤️❤️❤️

What a scumbag not only taking this childs life but trying to blame his own brother who had died
HE DIED IN THE MONTH OF OCTOBER SAME MONTH HE TOOK HER LIFE...FITTING.
His whole life was a lie ! What a horrible man . So sorry for the Mom
May her daughter RIP now.
I wonder just what theses killers were doing before and after they committed such a brutal crime. Do they just think I’ve Done it once I won’t bother again. I find that hard to believe, they must have done something before
Horrible and ugly person to do such a monstrous act to such a beautiful and innocent girl .
Thank God for forensics..rest in peace lovely young lady...
My family lived in Keyworth 1 Plantation Rd, a few years in the late 60s. We emigrated to Australia......thank goodness. Prayers to the family.
What's the point of the very loud music throughout the video, which makes it very stressful and in parts impossible to understand especially what the speaker in the off but also the persons in the video are saying? Most makers of this kind of videos seem to be driven in a compulsive way to add loud music not being aware that music turns into noise when it superimposes itself on the talking. It seems to me they have learnt in their training:No video without (loud) music; and they cling to it, unable to leave apart this principle even in videos where it doesn't fit in. In my opinion that reflects a lack of talent and courage.
I am speachless! How can someone live after having destroyed the lives of so many innocent people?!
Sure this guy have killed many children in age 14 to 16 -
But unfortunately he was cut after he lived his nasty life which he was so proud ( wrote to cops you never can catch me ) that’s mean his done it he knows how to do it - got a car then go around find young girls got the one he could - you think that was a first time and last time ? Sure all his life he did this if they looked for sex crimes murders around him and the the stolen cars - they could find many many more -- his sick and every night when he gotten that need he left his house for hunger hunting- I’m not sure if his going to be in jail for rest of his life . Cause life sentence is not like they sure got a life sentence for good .
He took an overdose, 8 months into a life (minimum of 25 years) sentence.
Told my mum I wanted to walk to the shop one night. I even insisted.
I ended up in the back of the car crying while heading to the shop.
Be the parent first before trying to be your childs friend.
Not suggesting in any way this was the mums fault but i feel for her because that moment she chose to be her friend first, would've haunted her every time for the rest of her life.
Thank GOD he was found.
The reconstruction filming was hazy and causes dizziness when watching - it is a shame to spoil such an interesting case.
Beautiful Colette. She looks very like my niece. Rest in peace, Colette. Condolences to her family. 🙏
I was never a capitol punishment fan but when it is without a doubt I’m swaying forgive me Jesus😩
This Narrator is so pleasant to listen to! And the show is excellent!
Died in prison 2010! The year he was imprisoned - so he really served just about no time and had the whole of his adult life unlike the poor girl. Anyway well done to the police. i do encourage people to put their DNA on ancestry etc websites. I took a very hard look at the pros and cons before doing so (as it could mean a relative of yours is caught) but decided the pros outweigh the cons and that it is a morally right decision.
I was just thinking I wndr if there will be a day wen everyone's DNA will be taken @ birth & put on ONE universal human data base? I mean, if it means catching & stopping criminals from doing more harm i'd be for it but unfortunately thr wud prbly be many unintended consequences & abuses of the info. So it prbly wud nvr happen or be a good idea in the big picture.
I wish we cud stop & punish people like this horrible man & hold them accountable to Justice more easily somehow. I really wish we cud PREVENT them from having the opportunity to do harm in the 1st place. But I think the only way to do that is to teach young people from a very early age that thr r bad people who harm & teach them real self defense methods. But even then idk if it cud prevent some of these monsters from being able to commit their crimes. And it is not fair to hav to tell kids about the scary world they live in. But I think preparing kids/youth for a bad situation might help them get out of it. possibly. & as they grow into young adult hood they wud hang on to self-defense skills that cud help them anytime
There has to be a special place in hell for such disgusting wastes of humanity.
And if any of my relatives are responsible for such an horrendous crime, they can go to hell, too, after incarceration.
You never know when a local person living in a heavenly safe town will SNAP!
According to a newspaper, he died of an overdose while in custody. He had been taken off suicide watch and was then able to get some drugs to kill himself with. It was sad enough that he walked around as a free man for 25 years, but then to have access to drugs while in custody so that he didn't have to endure a life-long prison sentence is a double insult!! No justice at all in this case.
I would suppose that he was in reality always looking over his shoulder, however. He must have been aware of the advancement of DNA profiling. I remember growing up with people saying ' one of these days they'll have the knowledge needed to be able to pinpoint a suspect in a crime'. He must have heard this also. I had an acquaintance a woman, who picked up with a man who faked illness and cancer. He was not ill at all but had a terrific need for pity. Screwed up just like this killer about whom we have just learned.
R-I-P to Colette 💔🙏🏿🕊️
I'm not letting my daughter (if I had one) out to go to a boyfriend's house that late in the evening. If he wants to see her, he needs to come to my house to visit her!
Exactly. Sadly they couldn't have known what would happen. These stories sadly had to happen to highten our senses.
It wasn't late. She had promised to be home by 9.30! That is not late by anyone's standards.
