I love that pure joy of discovering sounds like a little boy playing with a new toy .. as a synth geek i relate .. but its howard jones on an iconic synth that he never had the chance to own so its just more lovely
That was amazing! I half expected to hear all my favourite Hojo tunes from this great new toy. I love all the synth songs. Synth music is my happy place! Having said that, Everlasting Love is the song I crank up full blast! 😊
Absolutely love the P5, I have the P10 Rev4 now and it's in a league of it's own. for a mono output, it can sound extremely full at at dimes deceptively stereo! Enjoy it Howard!
Most MAGICAL Synthesizer of all time after the Oberheim 4/8 voice Polyphonic (#1) that and the Prophet 5 (#2) both sound more unique and better than ANY other poly synth
Proof positive that it's not about vintage or current, or analog or digital. It's about the player. Different electronic instruments have their different characteristics, but the musicianship makes all the difference in the world.
My uncle brought his round in the 70’s , sat me ( a nipper ) in front of it and left me alone 😊😍 massive inspiration, I still have the original foot switch pedal , use it in my live rig , he also introduced me to “Wish you were here “ Quad 405 , linear record deck and Tannoy Westminsters and real to real tape ! Omg 😊
Looked like you were having fun there Howard - Could we have some UK gigs this year please and maybe bring some of your old friends you were having fun with, some of the old classic's played on them would be fantastic...
I only have one of those Dave Smith Mofo's, albeit the 'se' version, and it is very distinctive and highly evocative of the Sequential 'sound'. Really well built too. Nice to see Howard having fun with an old classic.
Hi Howard great to see you well after all these years. . Who'd of thought analogue synthesizers would have come back with vengeance. I had a prophet and oberheim obx back in the day . Last year I bought a prophet rev 2. But there was something rather unique about the prophet 5 even with a single mono output ..👌
Hi, Howard. I saw you play at Rewind Henley a few times, and in Exeter. Yourself, Mr Kershaw, and Mr Bailey were definitely the highlights for me. Thank you for the music, and the memories.
I hear a new album in the works! He should so make an album with this instrument. The prophecy has been waiting its whole life for you to make it sing!
This is just great. Hard to have pictured a synthesizer legend looking like a kid in a candy store, discovering the prophet sound all these years later. Especially considering nobody mastered the Roland Jupiter 8 better than Howard did. Unfortunately, I was born in the late 80s and never saw him play the JP8 live , but these are the kind of questions i've pondered for 15+ years - What does Howard Jones still think about these legendary instruments? Thank you for this.
This is great! Hi, Howard :) I saw you solo with a synth fortress around you, in the college union ballroom at Nassau Community College, in Uniondale, New York on Long Island, sometimes between 1985 and 1987, and now I own a whole lot of synthesizers 😂 Thanks for the influence - they bring me all sorts of joy ❤ Happy New Year 2025!!
I recently got a copy of The Prisoner on 45. That one sounds grrrrreat played at 33rpm through a delay pedal. Instantly sounds like a Witchhouse track. Thanks Howard!!
Seen you twice recently in concert H, never disappoint, and what about that view!, well your work, and the enjoyment that you have given us makes it well deserved. Now, is Hide and Seek, No One is to Blame or Assault and Battery my favourite? choices choices. Perhaps I just listen to all 3 again.
Compared to your Jupiter-8, this is a much raw, buzzy and electric sounding - especially with the polymod. They compliment each other perfectly as one is smooth/warm, the other cutting/raw.
I was only single digit age when those came out, but my best friend's older brother had one and it's one of the reasons all I've ever done for a living was play music.
Strange to think Nick Rhodes had a Prophet 5 back in 1981, and Howard has only just got around to owning one in 2025 . Lloyd Cole from a guitar band back in the 80s had a Prophet 5 , welcome to the club Howard
Great to see. I do believe you owned a Prophet T8 many years ago? Which is an amazing keyboard.... Prophet 5 is a classic. A good friend of mine has lusted after one for years.
Of course he's a big fan of Synthesizer Patel! This is a reference to a great British show called Look Around You, which is hard to describe... basically it's an extremely funny, sort of poker-faced parody of educational films from the early 80s. You can't find the full episodes online anywhere, which is a shame, but a few clips are up on UA-cam (and you can get the full eps on DVD).
Not so...check out his original rig...Pro One was his go to. Prophet Five is just 5 Pro Ones sticky taped together!!! His first solo voice and Bass provider was from Sequential Circuits!!!😶🌫😎
@@saxmidiman A Pro-One, really? I had no idea. I remember he used an SH101. You live and learn. Who knows, with a twist of fate and taste he could've become Ozric Tentacles. 😁 Oh and I think maybe the P5 is a little more than the sum of its parts even if you are technically correct there about five Pro-Ones in terms of the voices. I have a Dave Smith Mopho se and it is lovely, although as one reviewer put it, it's a little like a monosynth that really wants to be a polysynth, although in fact you can do that with it by hooking up a Tetra to make it five voice.
@@newsles2 If you watch his DVD he does three sets...first with his original rig, then an updated one, then with a band. Two Pro Ones, one set for sequenced lines and one for playing leads in the original rig. I have a Prophet 12, and a Take5. I Use an Integra-7 to fill in everything else. I will NEVER sell Prophet 12!!!😶🌫😎
I always wanted a Prophet 5 because of it's association with the music of Japan especially Ghosts. I was fortunate enough to have played one in a shop in the west end. It's still the synth that I would love to own. Too expensive even now to own. Love your studio Howard especially that futuristic sofa.
Never had a P5 but I owned a mint Juno 60 but traded it many years ago for a digital piano! Who'd know they would become so sort after. On a side note, it makes me wonder how many prized instruments were destroyed in LA. Great demo.
Can I have your Jupiter -8 since you have that now?😂 or how about a Jupiter-6 if you have one? Mine was stolen from me !and so was my JD 800. I really miss my Jupiter! Love you, Howie! I also need an everlasting love! I need a friend and a lover divine! And everlasting, precious love! Thank you for the music and you’re a great work! Don’t feel obligated. I have plenty of synthesizers. But just in case you had more than one, Jupiter. I would be your forever, buddy! I was lucky enough to have my mom purchase the Jupiter-6 as my first instrument and they used Market at the Music store around the block! It impressed everyone that heard it, and it was the life of the party on occasion that I brought it to my buddies house And it created memories for all of us that we will never forget!
To still have that glint in your eye of excitement on receiving a new synth means you still have unfinished work to do Howard. ❤❤
So hard to believe that with all your experience and synth work, that this would be the first time you have had a Prophet!!!! LOVE those things!
Am i missing something or did he say its an old one back from repair? I think its his "First" Prophet. Either way he seemed delighted to have it. 😄👍
@@SpikesStudio3 Ah, that makes more sense!
We’re not gonna talk about the view from his office? lol. I would love that.
Howard has used many Roland synths but he also used a Prophet T8 back in the day
Actually Howard used a Prophet T-8 on his Dream Into Action tour. This is his first Prophet-5
This video made me smile, to See Howards Joy and Love for finding new things.
@Howardjonessong Any time Howard, been a fan from the first single :)
@Howardjonessong Worksop in the UK
@Howardjonessong why do you pretend to be Howard Jones? You are not even worth his time.
@@frankwoolrich It's not really Howard you're talking to there.
@Howardjonessong You can't expect me to believe Howard Jones would give out their personal email address for all to see.
Wonderful to see a Master with a new synth. The joy in your eyes speaks volumes.
Howard! Awesome demo of the Prophet 5. I absolutely love that old synth, it's a blast from the past !!
I love that pure joy of discovering sounds like a little boy playing with a new toy .. as a synth geek i relate .. but its howard jones on an iconic synth that he never had the chance to own so its just more lovely
In memory of Dave Smith. Thank you for sharing.
So great for Howard to mention the great Richard Barbieri
I was thinking the exact same thing 😊
🗾
New synth... "new song" ❤
More please Howard. That was amazing!
Thank you for filling my youth with beautiful music Howard; best time of my life.
Nice shout out to Japan and Barbieri! But shocked you didn’t own a prophet 5 before! Gorgeous synth indeed.
That was amazing! I half expected to hear all my favourite Hojo tunes from this great new toy. I love all the synth songs. Synth music is my happy place! Having said that, Everlasting Love is the song I crank up full blast! 😊
Let's be honest Howard can make any Synth sing, Brilliant to watch.
Hi Howard! I went to see you in 1985 in Ames, Iowa! Was great! Thanks for the music! Glad to see you are doing well! :)
Imagine just sitting on that sofa and watching the master at work. Amazing.
So cool to see him so excited, like a kid on Christmas morning. Congrats on getting one Howard! Sounds great.
Absolutely love the P5, I have the P10 Rev4 now and it's in a league of it's own. for a mono output, it can sound extremely full at at dimes deceptively stereo! Enjoy it Howard!
well what a joy to see the maestro noodling his old hits a bit :)
Mr. Jones was last seen entering the studio three days ago, and hasn't been seen since...
Welcome to Prophet 5 world, Howard! Sounds great!
I'd love more of these videos!
So great to see a synth legend getting excited about a new toy. And to hear him play his own riffs when checking it out is just awesome to me.
So great to see Howard so happy!

Great to see Howard still getting excited by a "new" synth! But that P5 seems to be in need of some new bushings... ;-)
Wonderful to see a Master with a new synth. The joy in your eyes speaks volumes. Oh, someone already wrote this exact thing! 😉
i love ALL OF ITTTTTTT THANK YOU. BEAUTIFUL!!!

Can't believe this is the first time Howard has played a Prophet 5! He had a Pro1 back in the day, I recall....
And a Prophet T8.
On an anniversary tour he had a Roland 808 triggering a Pro-1 on the retro part of the performance
'conditioning"
my favorite song👍‼️
The prophet of synthpop get's a prophet - loving this!
Love hearing you play! Truly amazing!❤❤
HoJo you really did fill my young mind with sounds that I never even knew existed ❤😊
NOISY KEYS!
love your eternal enthusiasm
Looking well Howard. Great to see you never lost your passion for synths
Do Roland know you have this? 🤣🤣🤣 Also, Synthesizer Patel - now there's talent.
Does Patel know you borrowed the keys to this synth?
I only have one of those Dave Smith Mofo's, albeit the 'se' version, and it is very distinctive and highly evocative of the Sequential 'sound'. Really well built too. Nice to see Howard having fun with an old classic.
Prophet 5 AND a Juno 60 - my idea of synth heaven 🙂
Back in the mid 80's i had a prophet 600 midied to my dx7...😢,, great times
Pure cream!
Excellent stuff love the old synth sounds very unique brilliant sounds
I'm very happy for you, Howard. Have fun !!!

Love the enthusiasm! 🎹
Dream synth from the prog era. Thanks for sharing!
Brilliant! Proper synth legend with a legendary synth! They're just so alive huh? On my short, short list 🙂
His 80s songs were gas!

1:14 Powerful sense of dread.
Now I selfishly want a whole album of just Jones, a Juno and a Prophet!

Love that Synthesiser Patel gets a reference, maybe Howard will manage to synthesise a basoon? 😂

Great video!
Very surprised you didn’t have one I first saw one when Mike Lindup was playing one for Level 42 back in 1982
Outstanding stuff. I'd sell my arse to satan for a Prophet V. Great to hear the old hero Synthesiser Patel getting a mention 😂
Do you still have your T8? Also, it'd be cool to see how you build some of your patches. That Equality lead on the Jupiter 8, for example 🙂
Enjoyed!👏
Thank you Dave Smith…
