Yeah, poor belabored wife. Could you imagine how hard it is for them? They're the ones who went through the trauma and had to go through reliving it for their recovery journey. Supporters do deserve gratitude and so on. But don't put them on a pedestal either. We aren't a burden or a cross our spouses have to bear. We are trauma victims, going through a process of reminding ourselves after we lost everything including our innocence.
My ex boyfriend has DID and has three other personalities. I love him so much. His alters were difficult, but I got to know them all and it made me feel so close to not just him, but to them as well. My ex was always scared to tell people because he felt so different and like some monster. He didn't feel human. Although we broke up, we are still best friends. I just want him to feel like he isn't a freak. He's the kindest person I met. As disappointed I am in the movie Split portraying DID in a very negative way, I'm glad more people are becoming more aware of the disorder and look into it and know that people suffering from it are not freaks. They can still manage to live a life. They are not psychos. I'm very happy I met my ex and I forever hope to be close with him and his other sides.
Kudos to you for still being a Good friend to your ex. Folks with mental illness, need all the support we can get. My issues are no where as severe as your Ex, but it's still difficult to maintain friendships.
He's the first person I've seen who is a male with DID. All videos on UA-cam are just females with DID. He seems like a sweetheart. So sad he had to go through so much pain and abuse to end up with DID.
It’s much rarer for a man to be diagnosed with DID, so that makes sense. However, some studies suggest that men are just very underdiagnosed, kinda like how women are underdiagnosed for autism, so a lot of people who should have been diagnosed got missed.
I just want to say thank you Dr West, from everyone in my system. I / we read your book in high school. It helped us so much to start to accept each other and begin active communication and cooperation. Also to know that co-consciousness rather than integration was an option. Now we're a successful system of individuals, still not integrated, and happy.
too much evidence points to DID not being iatrogenic (caused and induced by therapy) brain wave patterns, and findings that when in the altered state, a DID patient works with memory like a "normal" person would, but when snapped back to their core personality, they share a lot in common with PTSD patients, suggesting that DID almost works like PTSD except there is a complete dissociation, mostly because a child does not have the capacity to adhere to a core personality while reacting to trauma just finished reading his book too, super interesting
This is absolutely beautiful. Not many people would have cope with Cameron's condition, which is sad to say but true. His wife has been really strong and helped him through it, proof is that most of his alters faded and the others stay inactive, he went from 24 to 4 main personnalities, and i think it's honestly very beautiful too to see that Cameron forgave the people who abused him. They are beautiful people with amazing souls, and i wish them all the joy life can offer.
He seems like an amazing man, and she's an amazing woman. God bless both of you! Couples today can't handle a argument without divorcing, so well done both of you!!!
It's amazing how the human brain can go through these personalities like a revolver. It's quite interesting how he puts walls behind him whenever switching personalities, like how he forgets what happens before. It's amazing.
I have to research this...figured this was caused by some sort of extreme abuse which breaks the psyche. He's very lucky to have family who truly loves and accepts him.
I truly believe that there are no mistakes; we are all born to love, teach and learn from each other different spiritual lessons. This is a great example of that in my opinion. And they both pass with flying colors!
Hi. I have also been diagnosed with DID back when it was MPD. I have read your book. It came as a great help. Now I am trying to write my own book. That is easier said than done with different personalities taking over as I write. Thank you for being inspirational. Only people who truly have this can understand the complexity.
This is an amazing story. Just found this book in a library on the for sale shelf… couldn’t put it down!!! I overcame bipolar disorder, addiction, and a myriad of other combined problems. But I feel it was child’s play compared to this. I am so very thankful your family came through that and that the story was told.
I have been checking this site daily for almost 3 years. i hope Cam and Rikki are still doing well. Rikki is a strong person and was a great cheerleader. WHS is still the Rebels to me.
His wife is not only his lover but his family too and his best friend. I hope I find a woman as loving and dedicated to helping someone. Respect to her
I read this book. From the first sentence, I was so riveted. Such a heartbreaking and triumphant story. There are far too many children being traumatized and abused, which results in far too many broken adults. 😥😥😥
What an incredibly brave soul to find a creative and efficient way to survive. Everyone who deals with DID at some point were in the most utterly unsafe situations, and instead of emotionally dying from the trauma of those situations, they figured out a way to live and be ok.
This is a family member of mine, one in deep denial, running from a diagnosis, living in terror and isolation, pretending (alters are) he’s ok when everyone knows something is wrong. I’m heartbroken because I know healing and a full life is possible
I am so glad to see these video. my bf is almost 50 and It was hard to find any male DID patients. It is not easy to live with DID and live with the person.
If everyone who had this kind of support with their mental illnesses than they would be able to cope better. The wife is one strong woman. This was life altering for her because she needed to step up and take the lead and become the protector and leader of the family. She is truly amazing. They are one beautiful family.
I ask this question out of respect...How can a grown woman continue to be able to be with a man that has so many personalities? One hundred percent, everyone needs love so I'm glad he has his wife. I'm just curious how she deals with it, ya know? 🤷♀️
When you love someone, you don't leave them because they've gotten sick. He was abused as a child and his mind suppressed the abuse, in exchange, his mind and body responds through DID. I know this must be hard on her, I'm sure she has counseling the way her husband does, support groups, etc
Haha I was afraid after reading the comments that the wife was unhappy but then I'm not a unbalanced selfish freak and am aware of how emotions work. The wife was perfectly happy. In fact she seemed thoroughly fulfilled. A happy child and husband to surround oneself with who love you and respect you can't leave one unfulfilled. She seems healthy, wealthy and a n active husband who adores her.
Hardly seems like a year plus since I had lunch with Smitty and he made me aware of this. I hope the Wests are doing well in this weird time. Walpole Strong!
You just know it's unfathomable abuse he endured, probably stuff you only see in movies. God I can't imagine surviving anything like that. To abuse a child so badly where their brain creates different personalities, those abusers don't deserve to have a life, to be able to roam this earth.
My son /sons Gregory and Ghaga have this. when they switch his eyes glaze over and he just freezes for a moment. Sometimes he will nap and wake up the other one.
@@vivianespinoza1549 trauma from his birth parents we think but not sure. I do know Ghaga is very protective of Greg and stress will lead him out some times.
The brain is a wondrous organ, DID is truly a miraculous condition of self preservation for an abused child. And is it sad that it makes for a difficult life later.
You are a wonderful wife and human being! You have aged gracefully and beautiful. You do not have any stressful look or anything. God Bless you and your family
Interesting that these personalities have names. Near death experiences, channeling, children who express reincarnation come to mind. He has a certain trait that may influence other energies to infiltrate from the spiritual world as well as the physical, hence the abuse. There are people out there who channel other energies and create amazing art, music.
The thing that helps a person with DID the most is to be accepted for who they are. Many with the diagnosis are isolated because society has set up stigmas that this does not exist outside of Hollywood horror films, is of the devil, etc. People with DID want what everyone else wants. To be who they are and all of who they are.
You are an ah mazing woman. Your pensive sadness yet complete and total acceptance is nobility and grace at its best. You embody what marriage and caring for and COMMITING to another being really means. Did you know of his challenges be for marriage and can you speak to the decision of committment
Don't forget to give him credit as well. She's an amazing woman, but he has had his own struggles to deal with, too. Kuddos to both of them.
Taylor Christensen totally agree!!
Thank you...this isn't easy.
Yes!
So much respect for his wife.

He loves his wife. That's where the respect comes from.

Sonia C I know right, that's true love right there.
He knows it look how much he watches her
I hope this beautiful woman is happy inside. Before the video ends, her eyes look sad. Sometimes we support our partner but lose ourselves.
I saw the same thing.
I did see that as well.
C B yeah i can see that:((
i completely agree
I was looking for a comment about her expression at the end.
she has aged beautifully

That’s the first thing I said!
I was about to comment the same.
she looks so beautiful now and then, they're such a cute couple
His wife is such a sweetheart ❤ God bless her. She's a trooper 💪🏼

Arun Mohan when she sees Han Solo she misses every shot. Duh.

I saw that too.
The wife/mother is absolutely gorgeous.
Wow they look incredibly good compared to the 1999 interview
