Pattern mousse definitely won. The definition is better and the price is better. I also like the fact that pattern mousse almost disappeared instantly after you applied it. It's great because that means if you have to go outside right away, you won't look like someone who rushed out of their house with suds on their hair like their house was on fire 🤣

@purplesugar1006 I never heard what happened after the lawsuit. Guess they settled for a few million and had to change all their labels. Now their website is stressing how safe their products are. But there was nothing sent to people who purchased their products. I got the whole line from Amazon and wasn't sent anything about the lawsuit. I was experiencing hairloss/thinning around the time that I started using the products too. I've since stopped and luckily my hair has bounced back a lot
Devacurl (in general) wasn’t made for Afro hair so I’m not surprised. You can tell by the ‘shaving cream’ texture of the foam-it responds better to less texture in the hair, and like you said it’s for volume. However I’ve used those types of thick mousses on rollersets for my relaxed hair and it’ll work really nicely for that. Flexi rods too.

Pattern Beauty forever. Ever since I learned about the Devacurl lawsuit and women losing their hair, you'd never catch me so much as BREATHING in its direction.
Giirrrrrllll! Soon as you applied Pattern to that first section I said “Oop! Game over! I know which one I’m trying.” Unless I’m styling my hair in the shower (which rarely happens), I can’t stand styling on soaking wet hair. I hate feeling the water running down my face, neck, etc. The Pattern side came out beautiful, defined, slightly elongated, and shiny making your hair look as moisturized as it was and probably felt.
I know this is about the mousse but that melanin plumping deep conditioner literally softens my hair as I'm putting it in. Everyone in my house (children and all) use that deep conditioner and it is amazing! My favorite deep conditioner ever! Okay I'm done...back to the mousses 😆.

Thank you so much for doing this! I've been in search of a replacement mousse since Jane Carter Solutions was bought out. I have used their Wrap & Roll mousse for years and I am down to my last bottle. It's been moisturizing and defining and provides great hold. It also pairs well with your products. Now I know that I'll be purchasing the Pattern mousse as my replacement.
I miss Jane Carters original formulas as well. They were the best!! And I loved the natural citrus scent of some of them when shockingly I’m not a huge citrus person.
Ima try out the pattern mousse again! I used it with the gel and got extreme flaking but ima try it by itself next wash day. I would loveeee if melanin hair care came out with their own mousse 😊
Pattern won, but I'd like to see how the Deva would do if it were applied on soaking-wet hair. I wonder if less of the product would be needed and if the definition would be better. I like putting a spray leave-in under any mousse that I use. I feel like it's the best of both worlds I get to use a leave-in and still have the soft fluffy hold of the mousse.

Definitely Pattern. My kids use a combo of Melanin and Pattern products and I like her stuff. But Melanin and your flaxseed gel recipe are core for me. Nothing pops my curls like that.
So Whit, when you come out with the Melanin mousse, please have it where it is versatile for curls and when us naturals put our braids in for the Summer 😊😁. Light, airy but still has an amazing hold and smells yummy!

Maybe you should have tried the DevaCurl product with more water and less mousse? Usually with those types of mousses (the puffy kind) you have to use more water as compared to the watery-based mousses, which usually require much less water (because the water content in them is already high). Food for thought
I hadn't thought about using mousse in my natural hair care styling. I've stopped coloring my hair and slowly realized my grays have a different texture. I'm curious now how it will respond to mousse. I will try this. Thanks, Whitney!
Yeah Pattern mousse is shiner and alil more elongated with some movement the diva mousse looks dry, stiff, crunchy & shrunken. Melanin should definitely make a elongated holding conditioning mouse a 3 in 1

The DevaCurl would work great for my fine low-density hair. The Pattern gives more shine and definition.
Pattern beauty one it is my favorite style with palo leave in underneath the mousse. Highly recommended it.
