Webinar: Enablers for a successful RDF cement co-processing model in India

India's Solid Waste Management Rules (2016) recommend that non-recyclable waste having a calorific value of 1500 kcal/kg or more shall not be disposed of on landfills and shall only be utilized for generating energy either through RDF or by giving away as feedstock for preparing RDF. The Rules also recommend that all industrial units using fuel and located within 100 km from a solid waste based RDF plant shall make arrangements to replace at least 5% of their fuel requirements. Co-processing of RDF in cement kilns is an environmentally sustainable method of resource management which leads to both efficient solid waste management and reduction in the use of fossil fuels in cement industries. However, the mechanism requires a joint consensus among different stakeholders to ensure successful implementation at the municipal level.
