Very well done Mark! Informative while showing options/results. When I got my fitting, I had the best overall results with a 16.5* 4 wood. More consistency and better distance than a 13.5* 3 wood. Cheers!

I had a fitting a couple of weeks ago and got epic flash 3 and 5 woods. I am reasonably new to the game and they are both set at +2 which helped me with better contact more consistently but also gives me the option to lower the loft when i feel i need to.
Great video with a lot of relevant info to give people an insight as to why a fitting is so important.
Keep up your great work Mark. Cheers. 🏌️‍♂️⛳

Cobra Fly Z 3-4 fairway wood, stiff stock shaft, set at the 15.5 loft. I have tried it on every one of the settings and with this club set as now, it is unbelievably trustworthy, I can fade it or get a slight draw. The fairway wood is the toughest one for me to find, once found I keep it until it stops doing what it should, then the search is on again for another. I had one for 8 or 9 years once, I just could not let it go, but tried some new tech and finally moved on. Very good video post Mark, thanks.

I swing me 15 degree 3 wood 105 but I deloft it. I tried the 16.5 M2 and got more carry and 10 yards more distance on a gc2. I'm switching for next season. Great informative video Mark.

Great vid. I have always played Titleist three woods at 13.5 and had massive drop offs of slightly poor strikes and never felt happy. Went to a Titleist fitting day and added loft to 16 degree and found extra 29 yards better ball flight and much better accuracy. A bit of a revelation 👼 same with driver 9.5 to a 11 degree and same effect more yards and improved consistency.

Great video Mark. I swing my 3 wood just short of 90mph, but because of my swing I never seem to utilise the longer shaft. I have fiddled with loft and lie extra over the years, but I actually carry my 3wood and 3hybrid both around that 175-180m, so I’ve actually just put in a 2 hybrid and it’s the best decision that I ever made. I now get an extra few metres of carry, but most importantly I get more roll, which I really value seen as I play on a more links style course.

Superb video Mark, personally I have junked my fairway woods in favour of 3 hybrids, 16 deg, 19 deg and 23 deg - the 16 deg hybrid is on average only 5 yards short of my old 3 wood, but hits target way more, much easier for me to control, probably down to shaft length entirely, but it works!!

I went to a 16.5 TM2 fairway and now I love that club it has become a weapon for me on par 5s best thing I ever did.
I had always used the standard lofts and had a hard time hitting it off the deck even though I had pretty good club speed but the higher loft has made it so much easier to hit.

Great vid. I’ve been carrying 15 and 18 degree fairways for years. Got fit a few weeks by my Titleist fitter and have switched to a single fairway; 16.5 degree in TS3. Spent a few hours getting used to it on the range and just came home from my first round with my new TS3 driver and fairway. Love them! 16.5 is so versatile for me. I’ve further simplified the game and feel like I can just about get everything out of the 16.5 as I could out of the other two.

Max VanNatter I agree with the 16.5 wood. Best of both worlds and you can go either way if you want to have a 3 or 5 wood by doing the magic with the Sure Fit. I got the TS2 version - not enough meet for the TS3 in the woods (came 10yrd short in comparison to the TS2).

Great video, I have always had roughly average swing speed. I have a 14 degree 3w which I basically only use off the tee (it is also a great club for a 100+ yard bum and run down a fairway and keeping it under the trees - this may indicate where too many of my drives go!) but I also carry a 17 degree 5w which is my 225 yard club off the tee and slightly less off the fairway. I always feel confident hitting that because of the extra loft

Very interesting video Mark. Got to say I picked my 3wood (15deg) to fill a gap between Driver (8.75) and, then 3 iron, but now my 19deg Hybrid (230). I'm not using it into greens, Its simply a par 5 and shorter par 4 where I need to carry something, club. I'd like it to be my go-to 'safe' hit from the tee.

I've been hitting a 15%. I can get a good flight off the tee- I sometimes use turn to it when my Driver is having a day off- but I struggle off the deck to get it in the air unless I plaster it. I just had my first crack at a G5 5 wood down the range and I think over time, it will replace the 15%. The difference in flight was immediately noticeable, and judging by the flags I was aiming at, I wasn't losing any carry distance. Make sure you let the Titleist folks know how well these vids are being received. Cheers Mark.

I used to have a 3 and 5 wood (classic white dot Ping G25s) but I never used my 3 wood because courses in Japan are generally shorter and carry-and-stop is the game here (warm weather seasons are moist and fairway are rarely flat and rolling). So I gave my 3 wood to a friend that is starting out. My 5 wood does the job from 210-220 and that's all I need.

Interesting video mate thanks. I’m currently having lessons and with a more consistent swing I’m gaining a bit of club speed and moved into stiff on the driver (10 def) and hitting it nice off a higher tee. Spin is still high so it sure if playing about with loft (maybe a 9) to see if I can maximise launch (lower my spin maybe) for whatever my swing speed settles down at when I embed the swing thoughts and keep things consistent. Maybe need a new lower spin driver (currently G25). Please educate me if I misunderstand some concepts on spin here, thanks 👍

Yeah - that is the issue: how do use or plan to use the club? Interesting with the approach idea.
I use a 17 degree 4 wood. Supposed to be off the tea only and I want it to go maximum 210 meters. It is for doglegs, longer par 3, possible bunkers or hazards in my driving range (about 230-240 m) or narrower fairways.
    Love it!

I really enjoy these sessions with these guys. I have seen your work with other fitters be very good as well, however. Probably because they know they can't bullshit you. All that aside, I had gone to a RBZ Tour HL a few years ago and loved the change. Set to 16.5, especially off the tee. I just got an 2017 F7 and have that set the same and love it. The F7 gets up from the fairway better for me. If it didn't, Dan would be telling ME to get up.

deloft my three wood to the same specs you do. However I have set mine up as a lower flying club so i can knock it into the wind. I carry it 265 on good strikes and so I find it is hard to use into any par 5s so it serves as mainly a tee missile. Love the vids

I've been on the hunt for a higher lofted 3 wood for a couple of weeks and literally just ran through this same test last night and picked up a new 3w that launches much higher. Coincidentally my SS on the monitor was 85 mph!! I get good distance out of my X2Hot 3W but I can't get much air under it, especially off the deck. Even off a tee it normally turns into a Tiger like stinger. I tried a couple of different options and ran across an Adams Blue 3W and hit a bunch of balls with it on the monitor. Same distance as my X2 hot but I was getting it 10 yards higher than my 3W. I will test on the range tomorrow but I'm hoping that on some courses, I can drop my current 2 fairway woods in favour of the new 3W only and add another wedge to the bag.

THANK YOU !!!! My current swing speed for driver is just north of 90, which puts my woods in the high 80s, so this is PERFECT for me. Interestingly enough, I sort of defaulted into the best of both worlds, as your findings confirm. I have a 4h and used to have a 3h, but ditched it for a 5w. My 5w is 19* and 3w is 16*....so it's essentially like having two 3w setup differently. I'm going to toy with dropping the 3w to 15* and the 5w to 18* just to see how that works out now that I can really in my head think of the 5w as just another 3w with a different configuration!

I carry a 13* 3 wood(RBZ) because it gives me the best chance to reach some of the par 5's in two. My course is somewhat hilly tho so when I have a downhill shot I go with my 16* fourwood. Both clubs are easy to hit and I have never had a problem getting the ball in the air. Another reason I like the 13* is on those short tight par 4's. After the 4 wood I move into the Rogue x hybrids. I'm a senior golfer fwiw. ;)

The best 3 wood for me is a 4 wood. I carry two sets of clubs, one for windy conditions and one for calm or wet conditions. So a Titleist 980F 17 degree when it's wet and a Cobra 4+ (16.5) when it's windy. Both are easier for me to hit a consistent strike with good carry over the 13 degree 3 wood I used to carry which depended a lot on roll to get the distance I needed.

very interesting- to give my point of view for the lower handicap followers and to link to your driver choice- I would like to suggest having a very reliable low trajectory 3 wood form the tee as your go to shot- and get a driver that hits the ball as far as you can. I dont think you should be worrying about greening 3 woods- if you do play a long course you will probably carry a 5 wood anyway

So I went with a 16.5 degree m4 3 wood and what a difference it's made. More height, easier to launch. More carry but less role out.

    Yes, please :)
I play 9,5 M3 Taylor Made - sorry for that - fitted for me and a 19 degree Callaway 5 wood.
I do not reach PAR 5 in 2 and have no intention to do that.

I have a 10.5* rogue driver, but I'm going to toy with the settings on it in the next couple of days. I can bring it down to a 9.5, or up to a 12.5. My swing speed is generally close to 90, but I've been hitting this lower on the face for some reason.

My 917f2 16 3 wood is currently set at about 15.5. Ive never been fitted for a fairway I’ve just set it to how I felt it delivered the most accuracy

Marc, will increasing the loft of my Ping G400 from 14.5 deg. to 15 or 15.5 deg. produce more fade or slicing of the ball? The fitter increased loft on my new Mizuno irons by 2 deg. and 2 deg. flat but left the driver and 3wood at standard.

When I was playing competitively in the 2000s, a driver was between 7.5 and 10.5,
    a 2-wood was about 13,
    a 3-wood was 15,
    a 4-wood was 17,
    a 5-wood was 19,
    a 6-wood was 21,
    a 7-wood 23...
Now apparently they can have any number and have any loft. What is the world coming to! I play a 4-wood by the way!

Max Caysey You played "competitively" and that's the conclusion you come to? I've been playing "competitively" for 30 years. Junior Amateur to Mini-tour professional and now back to amateur. I have played with a lot of great players that have gone on to bigger and better things than I ever could have. Never, and I mean never, have I heard that the number on the bottom of the club matters more than two squirts of piss. What matters is how far do you CARRY the club you are holding and what does it do while it is in the air.

I have a de-lofted 3 wood at 14 degrees purely on my pros advice same with my driver down at 8 degrees.I play off 26 but have a lot of power and speed (Not always under control) and have no problem launching clubs into the air but I also hit down slightly off the deck with my 3 wood and hybrids and this has explained why he insisted I de loft my 3 wood and 816 hybrid to 18 degrees

I took the 3 and 5 wood out to go 3 and 4 rinky. Gives me room for four wedges. I carry my 19 degree Rinky around 250 off the tee.

I was gaming a 13.5 strong epic 3 wood, but I got fitted with a 15 degree rogue, both sub zero. Rogue was a higher flight but around 3000 rpm whilst the epic was around 4000 rpm. I thought with a strong loft I would benefit, but I was wrong. Rogue ordered!
