I watched this show with my siblings and parents. Then I watched it with my husband and children. Now I watch it with the Grandchildren and my husband in spirit. I love this show it is Christmas to me. Wishing all the Lord's bright blessings!
"We can't afford a Christmas tree. We will someday, I vow..." After a while, my parents couldn't provide Christmas trees or presents or fancy dinners for my brother and me because there was barely enough money to pay the bills, let alone to spend on "luxury" items. Thus, even as a small child, that one line in the song always stuck close to me, as I knew they were trying their very best to make life as comfortable for their children as they possibly could. I vow to do the very best for my children one day as well
🍇🍓🍒 Razzleberry Dressing! Love the warm togetherness of this wonderful Christmas song! Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol is still a Holiday staple for me. *Merry Christmas!*
Such amazing songs in nearly forgotten holiday special. This tune about being thankful for our loved ones despite lack of material goods is a beautiful message. The one with young Scrooge being left behind in the school “I’m all alone in the world”. Made me cry 50+ years ago and can still bring a tear to this old geezers face. To lighten the mood, the song with the thieves and its clever rhymes and silly slapstick is hilarious
This was the first adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" I ever saw. All of the songs, especially this one, are so catchy and memorable. Even today, I still get this song in my head from time to time. :) Merry Christmas, everyone! ❄⛄🎄🎁🎅
I have in the past spoken with one of the heirs to producer Henry Saperstein's estate about adapting this version of the Dickens classic story to the stage (you don't get a Juie Stein score for free every day) but she was profoundly uninterested. The score from this stands up to any of today's hit Broadway musicals.
That sounds like it would be awesome if you had the right cast, trouble is, I think that just one cast members that wasn't right for the part would blow the whole thing and with a classic such as this I would hate to see anything it up
A few years ago, I read the book about the making of; "Magoo's Christmas Carol." It was an excellent book. I was most touched when the author told us that the night the show premiered, Walt Disney told the director that this show would be a forever classic. He said that this show would be watched and cherished d by generators. His words came true and will continue to brighten the heart of all of us.
This brings back pleasant memories of watching this cartoon with mom and dad. They passed away and other members of my family died too. The song makes me feel like crying , but I think of the times we celebrated Christmas as a family and now I'm sharing this Christmas classic with my son.
This is the most beautiful bittersweet song I ever heard. A poor family that’s thankful that they have each other on this special day. Christmas is all about family and being thankful for the lord after all
I think the lyric of we’ll have a Christmas more glorious than grand, always brings emotion to me. There were times when I felt we needed to buy more, (one of us both sales consultants had a disappointing turn of events), I would think of these words. If at that time I had the recipe we would have had some....razzzzzleberrry dressing!
@@caroldefender4144 It's definitely "grand." The whole idea is that they're going to have a Christmas that's so great it is even better than a grand Christmas
@@caroldefender4144 He means "grand" as in extravagant. He was saying even though they don't have much, they could still have a merry Christmas because they were all together as a family.
I've been watching this Christmas special almost every year since I was 4 years old. I'm 66 now and will continue to watch it in the future. This one song is my favorite.
Jack Cassidy sings the Bob Cratchit part. Famous B'way actor also on TV in many roles, married to Shirley Jones at one time. This song makes me cry every time. Mr Magoo's A Christmas Carol will be shown on THE CW network Christmas Eve. (too many commercials to be sure) But the print looks GREAT and it is a fine Christmas show. For many years the versions on TV have been CUT to allow more commercials, but this is the WHOLE ENCHILADA. IT IS THE FIRST REAL,ANIMATED CHRISTMAS SHOW, first shown in 1962.
Not a bad adaptation of this tale. It's a little corny and they didn't make Disney quality animation, but it basically sticks to the book pretty much. Though not even close to the 1951 Alistair Sim version (the greatest version ever made) it presents the story in a very child friendly not too scary way that makes it great for family watching. I remember as kids we waited all year long for these animated Christmas specials to come on. If you missed it you had to wait a year to see it again. So these specials that were shown starting December 1 were always a big deal to us kids. Now you can dial them up anytime all year long. It takes away a bit of the magic but I hope kids still get that same thrill and anticipation from these shows.
What makes this adaptation so memorable is that it's produced as a Broadway presentation, with the beautiful, sometimes heartbreaking songs of top notch music composers Bob Merrill and Jule Style on board, adding total magic to an often ethereal stage show ambiance. This is my favorite version of Dicken's classic, even if it is a more loose adaptation.
Still the best holiday cartoon ever made. Great songs. Much better than the boring Peanuts Christmas "classic" with it's dry humor and creepy smooth jazz score. Man, can that Magoo act....he will make you cry! Go easy on the razzleberry dressing, and may God bless us all, everyone!
Always loved the Magoo shows after this one too. As theater productions, Gunga Din, Treasure Island, Frankenstein, Sherlock Holmes, Count of Monti Christo, Robin Hood, Paul Revere. It was Trinity Rep for kids!
This special was my grandma’s favorite christmas special. She died in 2011 and I hadn’t watched it since until today. Still holds up. I think the songs are cute. The only Magoo thing I’ve ever seen.
Will we have a dinner and some razzleberry dressing? Oh, razzleberry dressing would be nice. Will we have a pudding made of liver while we're guessing? Or maybe razzleberry dressing twice. We haven't had a hen, since I can't tell you when. We'd love a hen again With razzleberry dressing. We've been so awful good, From me down to the baby. And we're not made of wood. Or razzleberry gravy We'll have the Lord's bright blessing and knowing we're together, Knowing we're together heart and hand. We'll make the whitest Christmas. The very brightest Christmas. A Christmas far more glorious than grand. We can't afford to have a hen. We will someday I vow so I suggest you dream of then and prize what we have now. Could we have a Christmas tree and on each branch a pudding. The woofle jelly cake would be so nice. Could we have a stocking full of presents on it, could we? Some woofle jelly cake perhaps a slice. And on the tree a star. Of shining Christmas gold. A candle in a jar of razzleberry dressing. We can't afford a Christmas tree. We will someday I vow. Start smiling and enjoy with me the miracle of now. We'll have the Lord's bright blessing. And knowing we're together. Knowing we're together heart and hand. We'll have the whitest Christmas. The very brightest Christmas. A Christmas far more glorious than grand (Reprise) Now, we have a Christmas tree and on each branch a present. Some woofle jelly cake, perhaps, of twice. And wood on the fireplace. A home so warm and pleasant. The woofle jelly cake is very nice. [gobble] And on the tree a star of shining Christmas gold. A candle in a jar. Of razzleberry dressing. We'll have the Lord's bright blessing, and knowing we're together. Knowing we're together heart and hand. Ah ha We'll make the whitest Christmas, the lightest, brightest Christmas. This is the best of the Christmas shows, classic
Yes and now sadly you can't find these quality shows on regular tv anymore. I'm still looking for The Little Drummer Boy🤔🙏🎄
This show has been the most profound and poignant Christmas memory of my life. I am very grateful for it.

There was a point when we were living in hotels and would just barely make Christmas work so I totally understand
I watched this movie every winter with my family and it's just reminds me of my blessings. All time fav

I agree. I remember seeing this first hand on NBC (Channel 4) and it was sponsored by Timex Watches.

Jack Cassidy as Bob Cratchit. Timeless and True.
This is my favorite Christmas movie by far. Very humbling in our instant gratification versed society.

WPIX in New York used to air this at Christmas time. It's one of my favorite Christmas specials.

love watching these old shows
Easily my favorite song in the special
This film is probably the only speaking role that Gerald McBoing Boing has.
Also, Tiny Tim seems to love raspberries.
I think it is the only speaking role he's ever had. I sure hope he gets his razzleberry dressing.

gbrycki you can’t compare these two classics. American jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi was an innovator.
I remember this!! Love it!!
Wonderful music, Jules Styne also wrote the music to Gypsy, Funny Girl and hundreds of popular songs
Still cry over this and tiny Tim
boy i love this movie!
It be cool if they showed this on T.V. again.
A Christmas Must

It was Trinity Rep for kids!

Love this one from a child
My favorite of all time...
all had to be bless on what we have, the present, the main present is our families being alive and desperate for a whole new day.
"The Miracle of Now"!
I absolutely love this. ❤
Did anyone else notice that one of the Cratchit kids looks a lot like George Jetson?
Maybe it's the same design.
Bob does too. In fact, George Jetson's life is pretty similar: he works for a mean, bellicose, greedy little man too.
Only difference is that this was UPA instead of Hanna Barbera.
Perhaps the animators are Jetsons fans?
That's Jack Cassidy as Bob Crachit.
A great animated , musical Christmas Carol with mister Magoo!! Rip jim backus aka mister Howell!

No idea why the radio station near me that plays Christmas music starting on Thanksgiving won't add this to the playlist.
I agree. This song is a classic! Or it should be anyway.
Jack Cassidy. He was hot stuff.
David Cassidy's father.
Only Christmas Carol that had the ghost of present first then past
It would make a great stage show, especially because of the songs

I always wonder if when Tiny Tim grew up if he became like Mister Scrooge .
This is such a departure from the book where they have a grand dinner complete with Christmas pudding. Not sure why they did this.
