Easily my favorite song in the special
Razzleberry Dressing (from Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol) Recipe December 20, 2014: Everyone has their own favorite version of the classic story A Christmas Carol. As I grew up, there was only one Ebenezer Scrooge for me, and I had indeed seen this Scrooge for the first time when I was very young. This was none other than the Scrooge we see in Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol, as he was played by Jim Backus. And this leads to one of the most memorable moments of Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol. The family sits down to dinner and sings "The Lord's Bright Blessing," while Tiny Tim (cameo appearance by Gerald McBoing Boing!) sings of the joys of razzleberry dressing. And so, fifty-four years after the TV special first aired, I've made my attempt at re-creating this famous fictional sauce. As it turned out, this dish was quite easy to prepare. I attempted to re-create ingredients that a poor working-class family of the Victorian area might have access to - including a few special treasures carefully saved for Christmas, namely berries and spice. "Razzleberry" is a combination of raspberries and blackberries. A poor family of this sort would be more likely to use animal fat for cooking, rather than fresh butter; and so, I added lard to the roux for authenticity. You can substitute butter for the lard, but this will affect the taste of the sauce. The final result here is a savory, mild sauce that doesn't have a sharp flavor of its own. Rather, it enhances the flavor of poultry such as gander or hen (or chicken or turkey), giving a bit of savory sweetness to the meat. It would be a good alternative to gravy, or a combination to provide variety to a single meat dish. A person dining could have gravy in one serving, and razzleberry dressing in the second serving - truly, a feast worthy of the finest working class family! Dishes needed: One medium sized saucepan - this recipe doesn't produce a huge amount of sauce. You can't drown your bird in this, but you can use it to dress the bird as you serve your guests. Roux: 4 tablespoons (1/4 cup) lard 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper 6 teaspoons (2 tablespoons) flour Sauce: 6 ounces blackberries 6 ounces raspberries 2 1/2 tablespoons (2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons) brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 tablespoon brandy 1/8 to 1/4 cup chicken stock (or broth) to thin the sauce Begin by preparing a roux. Over medium-low heat, melt 1/4 cup of fat (such as lard) in your saucepan. Add salt, ground pepper, and flour. Stir it all together into a pasty mixture. Add blackberries and raspberries to the pan. Stir in brown sugar, allspice, cinnamon. Stir over low-to-medium heat for ten minutes, until the berries have come apart and you have a thick sauce. Add a splash of brandy (about one tablespoon), and about 1/4 cup chicken stock (broth). Stir it all together for another five to ten minutes. The extra liquid will thin the sauce, then the additional stirring will reduce the liquid and thicken it again. Your razzleberry dressing will be ready to remove from the heat when it makes a thick, slurping sound every time you stir it. Remove from heat and set aside for about ten minutes. After serving poultry (goose, duck, turkey, or chicken), serve razzleberry dressing onto your guest's serving of meat, so they can eat it together in one bite.
This special was my grandma’s favorite christmas special. She died in 2011 and I hadn’t watched it since until today. Still holds up. I think the songs are cute. The only Magoo thing I’ve ever seen.
I have a friend whose is into all things Disney I will point this one out to her today.
Merry Christmas 2024! 🎄🎄🎅🎅🎁🎁
I'm 57 now. This brings back such great memories of Christmas from the 70s 😢
From Zero (Megaman X) to Hero/a (think feminine) In this movies/videogames/tales... Who were the true heroes? 🤔 Those who can honesly think: Someday, I'll look back on myself and say, I did it for... (?) 💘=❤🔥
Will we have a dinner and some razzleberry dressing? Oh, razzleberry dressing would be nice. Will we have a pudding made of liver while we're guessing? Or maybe razzleberry dressing twice. We haven't had a hen, since I can't tell you when. We'd love a hen again With razzleberry dressing. We've been so awful good, From me down to the baby. And we're not made of wood. Or razzleberry gravy We'll have the Lord's bright blessing and knowing we're together, Knowing we're together heart and hand. We'll make the whitest Christmas. The very brightest Christmas. A Christmas far more glorious than grand. We can't afford to have a hen. We will someday I vow so I suggest you dream of then and prize what we have now. Could we have a Christmas tree and on each branch a pudding. The woofle jelly cake would be so nice. Could we have a stocking full of presents on it, could we? Some woofle jelly cake perhaps a slice. And on the tree a star. Of shining Christmas gold. A candle in a jar of razzleberry dressing. We can't afford a Christmas tree. We will someday I vow. Start smiling and enjoy with me the miracle of now. We'll have the Lord's bright blessing. And knowing we're together. Knowing we're together heart and hand. We'll have the whitest Christmas. The very brightest Christmas. A Christmas far more glorious than grand (Reprise) Now, we have a Christmas tree and on each branch a present. Some woofle jelly cake, perhaps, of twice. And wood on the fireplace. A home so warm and pleasant. The woofle jelly cake is very nice. [gobble] And on the tree a star of shining Christmas gold. A candle in a jar. Of razzleberry dressing. We'll have the Lord's bright blessing, and knowing we're together. Knowing we're together heart and hand. Ah ha We'll make the whitest Christmas, the lightest, brightest Christmas. A Christmas far more glorious, A Christmas far more glorious, A Christmas far more glorious than Grand Source: Christmas Specials Wiki
This is the most beautiful bittersweet song I ever heard. A poor family that’s thankful that they have each other on this special day. Christmas is all about family and being thankful for the lord after all

I've been watching this Christmas special almost every year since I was 4 years old. I'm 66 now and will continue to watch it in the future. This one song is my favorite.
🤗❤️🎄
Still cry over this and tiny Tim
I love how the family all start clapping in rhythm at the end.
Jack Cassidy had an incredible voice.
I adored the vocal trinity ( Whitney, Celine & Mariah), but when it comes to KC, she's up there alone.... in a league of her own 💞💚💖💪💪💪
When she sings, her voice penetrates your soul so deeply that it's hard not to be addicted to it. Once you listen to her, there's no stopping and you want more of that voice.... 💔💔💔
Yes,as a kid in Scotland, it was my earliest, version,of a Christmas carol.Still love this ,and I am 66 now.
Белинда умничка ❤такой трек записала для геркулеса.... Благодаря ей воспоминания ещё слачше
Какой трек... Какой мультфильм для взрослых... Какая ностальгия.. ❤
This video is quite a treasure - since it is the last proper music video from Belinda Carlisle until the new single of hers titled "Big Big Love" - which dropped less than a week ago. Crazy to think 26 years have passed between these videos. Of course, she still looks stunning at 64 years of age.
She did a video for "All God's Children" a couple of yrs after this
@@JBBramlet Completely forgot that this was release AFTER the "I won't say I'm in love". Thanks for catching that!
THE WAY SHE DRESSED LONG DRESSES ETC. MATCHED HER PURE SINGIN VOICE & SHOWED HER CHARECTER. PURE . xx
Its been a privalidge to Comment on Karen Carpenter HOW LUCKY WERE THOSE WHO SPENT TIME BE IT 5 MINUTES WITH HER .xx
A beautiful post you have written Peter .... How Karen sings this song so beautifully reflects how she felt about her life ..... I think this was meant for Richard her brother I could be wrong but listening to this beautiful melody is pure velvet by Karen's voice ..... So I wish Karen be filled with God's love n kindness 💖❤️😻😍
I like Hercules is my favourite Disney sequel
great music, awful videoclip.
It would make a great stage show, especially because of the songs
Such amazing songs in nearly forgotten holiday special. This tune about being thankful for our loved ones despite lack of material goods is a beautiful message. The one with young Scrooge being left behind in the school “I’m all alone in the world”. Made me cry 50+ years ago and can still bring a tear to this old geezers face. To lighten the mood, the song with the thieves and its clever rhymes and silly slapstick is hilarious
I absolutely love this. ❤
A few years ago, I read the book about the making of; "Magoo's Christmas Carol." It was an excellent book. I was most touched when the author told us that the night the show premiered, Walt Disney told the director that this show would be a forever classic. He said that this show would be watched and cherished d by generators. His words came true and will continue to brighten the heart of all of us.
WPIX in New York used to air this at Christmas time. It's one of my favorite Christmas specials.
I love the song. I love the clip. And i still love Belinda Carlisle.
I must have something in my eyes.
🙂❤️
I always wonder if when Tiny Tim grew up if he became like Mister Scrooge .
Much love for the song ❤
