Hopefully if anybody else gets a crazy idea of living among the bears, they will research what happened to him, his girlfriend, and the bears he interacted with beforehand. He was warned repeatedly about it by Alaska fish and wildlife.

Despite Tim’s stupidity, I still find myself curious about the different bears and foxes he interacted with and their various behaviors. Shame he was too unstable and angry not to invest his energy and love toward animals in a healthier way.

I worked with some biologists a couple of summers on some environmental jobs. We were at sites where ticks, mosquitoes and venomous snakes were abundant. I almost stepped on several cottonmouth snakes and had to watch where I took each step walking in tall grassy areas. Anyway, the biologists didn't believe in insect repellent and would just pick off the ticks throughout the day. They didn't believe in snake boots until one guy got bit. I laughed. Sometimes fear is a good thing.

All predators have a switch and whether that switch is on or off is predicated by the abundance or lack of food. Timothy Treadwell would usually camp in Katmai National Park when food was plentiful, the bears gorged themselves with berries, shell fish and salmon. By the end of August Timothy Treadwell would usually leave, but in 2003 Treadwell and his girlfriend made a very big mistake. They stayed through September and died on October 6, 2003. Because bears hibernate during the winter and food becomes scare by early September that switch I talked about earlier is flipped “on”. Their predatory instincts are heightened, they become aggressive and fearless. During a terrible storm in early October a 28 year old bear stalked Treadwell’s campsite and ultimately killed him and his girlfriend. The bear was tagged, he was starving and missing two of his four k-9’s.

People may disagree with what I'm going to say, but neither this man nor his girlfriend in any way shape or form deserve to be killed by these alpha beasts. Mr Treadwell may have been playing with fire but I don't agree with some who feel he "deserved" to die by a grizzly bear attack. I don't think he deserved that horrible, agonizing death. He did this because he loved these beasts, his passion his life, he lived for them. It's sad that 2 people could've avoided this if they were more prepared and more cautious. Look, you can disagree if you want and I'll respect that but Mr Treadwell and his girlfriend did not deserve to be mauled/eaten by an animal that could take our heads off by a mere paw swipe. Nature is both beautiful and terrifying. Please heed mother nature's warning by not tempting her. Mr Treadwell unfortunately did, not intentional most likely but it happened and it's a tragedy.

I don’t think deserved is the correct word. They definitely didn’t deserve it. However, I feel like this was kinda suicide by bear. They literally completely ignored all warning signs about how this absolutely was the worst idea ever. They stuck around during the most dangerous part of the year, in the most dangerous part of their territory, around the most dangerous animals on our planet. He basically camped right in the middle of their den when they were ready to hibernate and they didn’t get enough food. The bear that killed him was also filmed stalking him, and also trying to get one last piece of a dead salmon from the bottom of the river, signaling that it was still hungry and trying to prepare for a rough winter. Deserved isn’t the right word at all. That had to be the most agonizing way to go ever. The tape was 6 minutes and they were alive through all of it, no telling how much later they endured being torn apart and consumed. Deserved is a word people with no empathy will say. They didn’t deserve this, however, they definitely had to know in their hearts, that this was gross negligence. They literally ignored everything, including constant warnings from rangers and everything. I’ve spent zero years filming bears, hanging out with and petting and swimming and camping with bears, and I would never in a thousand years, because I just innately know that probably isn’t the best of ideas. Even the man’s own girlfriend was extremely uneasy about the whole thing. She actually didn’t really like the bears like that. She respected them and the cause, but she didn’t like all the hanging out with them and stuff. The whole story is just sad, two humans and two bears were killed, and it all could have been avoided if common sense was utilized.
In nature “ deserve “ doesn’t even exist. The situation that Treadwell put his GF and himself in and the subsequent outcome was “ inevitable “. The fact that everyone who was aware of his actions knew the dangers just shows that Treadwell knowingly put his GF in mortal danger. In my opinion that made him selfish.
Love wouldn't put bears at risk to get put down. He knew what would happen to them if they attacked or killed them. And his exact words were, "If it happens, it happens."

This doffus got in the faces of bears and provoked them every day for 4 months every year for 13 years . In this video he is challenging a bear . How many times did this occur in a 13 year period. He didn’t want any form of protection from the bears but when he was getting attacked he called for his gf to come and use a frying pan to get the bear to stop. This man should have been sectioned long before he sacrificed himself to the natural behaviours of a hunting apex predator. No matter how many clips I watch (and I've also watched the entire docu) I feel a terrible depth of pity for him. Season after season he built on his delusions and bought into the whole idea that ANY of those bears gave a FF for him. He was, at best, merely tolerated, in the manner of a harmless pest who wasn't exactly viewed as food because there was food in abundance.
He led himself and Amy to a most horrific death by indulging his ego against his instinct. The instinct that told him, during that last pitiful piece to camera in that thicket, with the wind rustling the brush and the rain pattering, that death was literally watching him. He should have got himself and Amy out. He got eaten instead. A haunting tale of delusion and warped 'love...'
When I was homeless, I was looked after by a particular a man who liked living on the edge. Something in me thinks he (and others like him) didn't really value life. Not his own life, nor the lives or safety of others around him. The potential of dying was part of the thrill. Also, this man would argue and curse at strangers like Treadwell did.
