I strained my RT hamstring for the first time ever yesterday and really panicked. Your video, don’t ask me how I found it, was brilliant. Very reassuring and educational. I’m almost 24 hrs post injury and still wearing compression bandage and ice 20-30 mins per hour when I’m not asleep. Just mulling over whether to get MRI or Ultrasound to have my injury graded. It’s Sunday here in Sydney so no imaging open until tomorrow. Again, loved your video. Thank you so much for making it ❤

I like you information. A guy I know is possible going in the nfl draft. He was examined by a nfl team and the found a grade 1 strain. He was hurt early in his college football season and had to set out 2 games.
3yrs ago I was in a Body Combat class which involves kicking and lunges etc. I consider that I was pretty fit, having done this kind of class plus weight training pretty much all my adult life. NOTHING prepared me for my hamstring tearing! It snapped and I was propelled 6-7 feet backward ( taking out the two girls behind me!) It was as though I’d been thrown across he room by someone. My son is Head Strength and Conditioning Coach with a Premiership Football Club in England. After sitting stunned for about 15 mins ( the instructor immediately brought me an ice pack) I managed to slide my backside out of the door leaving the class to carry on without me. I called my son who lives 200 miles away for advice , before calling my husband to come and pick me up! I had to be helped every hobble of the way. Literally could not put any weight on leg. Bed rest for a week. RICE. Even now I feel my hamstrings are tight. I think I must have torn right near the insertion point under my glutes. Not sure I’ll have complete confidence in my legs ever again. Back doing combat ( online) walking, but still doing exercises in a modified version. I’m 68. DEFINITELY not ready to hang up my trainers! 🥊🥊🥊
I tripped on a raised sidewalk today, caught myself but I think I tore my left leg hamstring by overextending while trying to not faceplant. I’ve already been dealing with strain for a few months due to squats, etc. but I’d stretch out good and was okay. I can’t put much weight on my leg.. definitely can’t bend without severe pain. It’s in the middle but it’s throbbing up to my butt. It’s keeping me awake right now, even with toradol and muscle relaxers, so here I am, lol. Ortho on Monday! 🤕I appreciate your info and hope to buy a roller as soon as I’m able to.

So interesting what you say, I have the ball and a stepper, which I weren't using to rehabilitate but I sure will from now on, thx for your fantastic video.
Thank you so much for this video. Do you think this will work for upper-hamstring strain too? I have a grade 1 srrain from overstretching at Taekwondo around 7 weeks ago (I was doing the pancake/straddle stretch but went a little too low and felt a pop in my inner thigh). It didn't hurt at all, and I was able to finish the class without pain. The next day, I felt sore on my right lower glute area (right on the bone where the hamstrings attach), and I couldn't kick high on that leg without discomfort. Now, 7 weeks later, my range-of-motion is still not back to normal on my right leg. It doesn't hurt, it's more "stuck" or I feel like a tugging sensation when I try to stretch it. Ironically, it doesn't hurt when I do my middle splits. Could I be dealing with scar tissue at this point, or am I still healing?
Psalm 103:2-3 King James Version 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
yes, you want to increase blood flow to the area. this is a reason why ice, which reduces blood flow, is Not a good idea. it reduces inflammation and hence (like NSAIDS) delays the healing process. a heating pad is the better idea, since it will increase blood flow and accelerate the healing process
I sprain my calf muscle, so I use the ceramic bath tub to slide my leg across the side walls. Put a chair down facing the tub, wore a spandex pants to be able to slide back and forth over it. Sounds pretty much the same thing you did. and I am also in the 4th day as well. I eventually pick up my foam core roller from the gym. Doing the foam core regularly will make it easier to do for recovery, if you don't do it, then it will be harder to put your full weight into it. Unfortunately I did not ice it and thinking it was just slight pull, but it became worse the next day.

Could take a very long time, hamstrings can be extremely difficult to treat. You need to make sure you rehabilitation is specific, have a plan, do research. Hit all the aspects of stretching and strengthening.
Can a Grade 1 become grade 2 if u continue to work as a kids football coach for first 72 hours after hamstring strain? I had to keep working, standing and walking for financial reasons but now am worried I've made it worse. It just feels tight when walking, no bruising or swelling but at the end of each working day after the pull I had a limp which was then gone after iceing and elevating in evenings then no limp in morning... now im day 4 and found your vid. Thanks so much for great education! Any advice from here on out like physio visit etc...
Well those first 72 hours are crucial to rest and elevate and ice without question. If you continue to be moderately active it would probably delay the healing process a little bit. You do want to have limited movement but some mild walking is OK for promoting circulation. Rest is really what your body needs a lot of initially. A mild strain can still feel pretty miserable for the first 7 to 10 days. Tight and achy

Psalm 103:2-3 King James Version 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
that is not what you should do, rice = dubenked, you shouldn't massage an injury so much why!?!? , then the first movement exercise is actually a good one but then you should also progress to lifting your but of the ground, then going 1 leg to as many reps as possible or until no more pain spriting at 100%, defo should start running when possible just a little bit at a time, step ups are pretty basic you should also aim to getting back to a deep squat with a narrow stance, last thing that is key is rest between every workout, meditation and wim hofs breathing technique helps with that a lot.
Psalm 103:2-3 King James Version 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
Not sure what specifically you're calling inaccurate, but don't make the assumption that what doesn't work for you, won't work for others. Everyones body is unique, and everyone will respond to recovery techniques differently. The idea is to help EVERYONE find their path, not just you. Stay Blessed 💪

Im 47 i dud stretching for split during 2 years may be i pushed my srlf a bit but now i cant run or do high kicks without having pain hamstrings and hips.....should i stop sport for months ?
What you suggest.a hard foam roller or a soft one?
Have you explored the literature on icing delaying the healing of soft tissue injuries? Inflammation is the catalyst to the healing process and any icing and NSAIDs delay the healing process.
This is a tough one, there is always new information coming out.
i was just looking for this
Perfect!
I have a soccer tournament game in a little less then 2 weeks. I think I have a grade 1 but idk I feel a little bit of pain when I sprint but after I sprint I feel sore. I can jog very lightly and walk without it hurting. Do you think I will be able to play In the game? It might be our last game ever as a team after 4 years with each other and I don’t want to miss out so I hope your reading this and will reply
Don’t do it! I’m on the same boat likes yours. It’s my third week since I pulled my hamstring grade 1, I’ve been doing recovery and today at practice i thought I was good but I started to feel that pull again. I would say 4-6 weeks to heal grade 1 but depends on person, good luck
@@Kavinmoses7 ok thank you for your advise.
@@Kavinmoses7 good luck to you too
@@Kavinmoses7 did you have a bruise on your hamstring at all?
@@BenDover-de1zf no bruises on this one. I pulled the same hamstring last 2 years ago and that one was bruised. That one took me about 5-6months to fully recover
that was pretty good, thanks
You’re welcome!
I sadly did the same thing trying to sprint playing football with people from work. No warm up and thought I was good to go.
This is the exact same scenario for me today

Omg I did squats in March of 2020, I didn’t stretch before. I still have splattered veins on the back of my thighs. My skin looks so bad
Oh so sorry to hear that. Hopefully these stretches are something you will use in your pre-workout training.

Think I’ve got a grade 1 but Its up higher near my gluteus so I’m pretty nervous to see the physio
You really want to see your physio so you know exactly what you are dealing with and how to work at rehabilitating it correctly
@@Criticalbench ended up having a tear near my glutes, just started my rehab
@@joshdawson8266 Ouch 🤕 sorry to hear that.. be careful and best wishes!!!
I think I have a Grade 1 injury. Already 2 weeks in. I play football/soccer and can play very well already. It just feels stiff now especially when i'm going for a sprint (cause the hamstring is much needed for that). Do you suggest me just keep training on and taking it easy or just quit immediately and let it rest for a week or more. Thanks❤
It would be best to rest and see a physician. Better safe than sorry. Sorry about the injury. Best wishes on your recovery.
Yo literally I'm exactly the same but just not risked going back to football yet but I should be going back soon I'm almost 6 weeks in

Hamstring recently doing sprints it hurts so bad it put me on the ground. But it’s now been a month there was no bruising afterwards put the air I felt pull doesn’t really flex hard or at all to be honest should I be worried? Do I need surgery? I can walk and do normal things upstairs now though.
You need to build up more high intensity strength like polymeric type exercises

I just got a grade 1 by making a rookie mistake by not stretching and going to weighted alternating jump lunges right away to increase my vertical to increase my ability to dunk, does anyone know if this could restrain my jumping ability for a while?
Absolutely, you need to slowly work back into things until its fully healed
The advice in this video was very expert and well presented, but the camera work was a serious issue. The camera panned back and forth, in and out, for no apparent reason. I actually found it creates a feeling of motion illness. Next time, just don't move the camera for movement's sake. But thanks for the guidance - it did help

I am not sure if I am grade 1 or 2, i am pretty sensitive to pain generally, but this does hurt a bit. I am not screaming in pain but i can feel it strong. Its my 5th day. The quads and hamstrings both feel sore. Walking around gently feels better, but only for a while. The chair pressure under the thighs seems to aggravate it when i sit. I cannot sit criss cross still. Can i massage it or am i still inflamed and should I wait?
Hows it feel now?

Yes, if possible
I 100 miter running my hamstring strain problem... Please tell me.. How many day recovery?

Can I lift legs even with a strained hamstring
You should wait till your hamstring is healed
I'm not sure if I have a hamstring strain because sometimes I feel pain in my hamstring, then sometimes I feel pain in my calf, and even sometimes I feel pain in the back of my knee.
You might have a compressed nerve. It could be sciatica. See an orthopedic to be sure.
Are there any home remedies I can do to help it?

that is not what you should do, rice = dubenked, you shouldn't massage an injury so much why!?!? , then the first movement exercise is actually a good one but then you should also progress to lifting your but of the ground, then going 1 leg to as many reps as possible or until no more pain spriting at 100%, defo should start running when possible just a little bit at a time, step ups are pretty basic you should also aim to getting back to a deep squat with a narrow stance, last thing that is key is rest between every workout, meditation and wim hofs breathing technique helps with that a lot.
I couldn't get past a few minutes with the unnecessary camera movements.
Weighted lunges brought me here 🙄
Hope you feel better soon!

Ice No more than 10 minutes or you do more damage than good, so as much as you want… not great advice
This is false, many ice treatments go towards the 20 minute mark.
Bro this guy wastes 3 min at first increíble
That’s inaccurate you can’t avise people to rest. Keep moving and ice it but no hard exercises.
Not sure what specifically you're calling inaccurate, but don't make the assumption that what doesn't work for you, won't work for others. Everyones body is unique, and everyone will respond to recovery techniques differently. The idea is to help EVERYONE find their path, not just you. Stay Blessed 💪
