so the polymer one i had i shot 4000 rds every 2600 rds i had to change the recoil spring or it would fail to go into battery (a few times every mag) stock springs, same on the steel frame i put 8000 rds through 1 the other was just a back up so only 100 rds through it the first gen. mags had over insertion issue the gen.2 mags were shitty sprung the front follower would stop coming up all the way and cause the bullet to hit the bottom of the feed ramp and jam, the gen.3 mags are the best ,they have a triangle on the front the others do not they changed the spring design , i got upset with the time training with them and money on ammo so i got the walther pdp steel frame its been 100% i have 3400rds through it so far but the pdp mags work in the canik , i like the canik but they need to fine tune it , i also bought extended mags for the canik at the benstoeger pro shop ,canik rival steel frame mags with henning base pads 24 rds each ,they would not lock in on both of my steel frame gun i had to file down the base pads and the mags caused the same jams as the gen.2 mags .
has your gun been reliable ? i have bought 3 and i have had mag issues with all 3 1 polymer and 2 steel ,it seems even worse when i shoot federal syntech ammo , also how often do you change your recoil spring?
I have considered the Rival steel, but it seems like there is or was an ongoing mag insertion issue. $900.00 seems like a lot of money to take a risk on with my wife..
I haven't had any issues at all. It has been extremely reliable. Mine is also a polymer frame. I use the Sprinco Recoil Management guiderod system and have been running it for around 30K rounds in that gun so far without any issues. What type of malfunctions are you having?
@chrisneiman the original steel frames did have overinsertion issues with the magazines. The newer ones that have been produced this year are good to go from what I've heard.
I wanted the Steel Rival, but worried about the mag over insertion issues that was on the gun reviews and UA-cam about a year ago. I love the feel of the gun and might just have to see for myself. Thanks for getting back to me.
