    Thank you so much for doing this. I've been looking into these the past few weeks and info on them is minimal at best.

    Nice video and nice gear. For the G3 I think I saw their video about tuner update, now it has a tuner inside. Keep it up man, and good luck for Japan.

      Thanks man! YES, I just haven’t had time to send in my G3 to get it updated for the tuner update. They actually do it for free when you send it back!
      Thanks for the kind words man and appreciate it!

    Not just from a switching stand point, but the fidelity is much better with a G3.
    It sounds much clearer than chaining pedals.
    You also need a good power supply for cleaner sound as well.

    • @rickyrayreid
      @rickyrayreid  10 місяців тому

      Yes! The ability to shorten cable lengths and runs retains some high end fidelity especially if you have the buffers activated.

    I love using a switcher, but I don't imagine the'y're for everyone.
    That said, even if you'd rather not as your signal chain is simple the set up you can have in a studio can't be beaten.
    It's a great way to A/B pedals and play around with routing.

    • @rickyrayreid
      @rickyrayreid  8 місяців тому

      Completely agree with ya especially when it comes to a studio or on the fly setting! I feel like there's a certain threshold of pedals where a switcher becomes a blessing and worth all the front-end setup. If I didn't use midi I think I'd just go straight in series!

    Hey there! Very cool board set up. Great tone too. I just built my board and I am running the GigRig G2. Trying to get into setting up midi. As I don’t have much time it takes away from playing. Going to subscribe and hopefully you will have some videos where maybe you could show how to set up a midi patch. I run the Strymon Big Sky,Timeline,Mobius, and Volante.

    Do you find yourself creatively limited while using a switcher? For pre planned performances it would be pretty helpful but for jamming or writing it seems somewhat limiting.

    • @rickyrayreid
      @rickyrayreid  10 місяців тому

      It depends how you set it up! Some people go with the “bank presets” route where each bank is for a specific song then they switch to a new bank for the next song up.
      But I go for the “kitchen sink” approach. So every time I have is available without changing banks. So there are 14 foot-switches on the top (28 total when I use the “hidden preset” function by double pressing a footswitch) This allows me to have all my sounds possible without swapping over!
      Makes it extremely versatile! In my pedalboard rundown I go over how I have it setup in more detail!

    Nice setup, my setup is similar, but you have a G3. I like the gigrig g3, but they are NOT readily available in the US.

      Thanks man! Yes I still think they’re in high demand! I ended up buying mine used since the wait time was pretty crazy. What switcher are you currently using?

    I feel like you missed one of the biggest reason why someone would want a pedal switching system (and you definitely did NOT show case this in your intro…nice playing though), is that you want to recreate the punch-ins from a recording. Switching from a tame rhythm chord bit, to a chorus-y melodic line and then to a lead bit…or whatever. Switchers are great if you need to play stuff that, on its own it might sound disjointed, but in context to the song, sounds like a bunch of different guitarists.
    Beyond that, you omitted to mention some of the classic players (company’s) that do switching. I had a Rolls MIDI Wizard and switcher in the mid-90’s. Then there is Ground Control/VooDoo Lab GCX system, the Rocktron stuff, (historically the most versatile) Sound Sculpture Switchblade and currently…the “King Of The Hill” Morningstar Engineering (shout out to Disaster Area as well).
    Not trying to throw shade, but maybe go down the rabbit hole a bit more? I’m sure I’ve missed some things as well (and UA-camrs will mercilessly let me know).

    • @rickyrayreid
      @rickyrayreid  10 місяців тому +1

      Totally agree with ya! I absolutely could’ve showcased the immediate switching a bit more going from sparkly cleans to verb and delay sounds instantly (I actually covered more of that in the next midi video I did!) So many killer companies and players that have been doing midi and Morningstar absolutely killing it!
      Thanks for the comment!

    • @rickyrayreid

      That was my first switcher and was such a doozy for me to learn the midi ropes. I remember HOURS of putting in random numbers to see what would work!
      You’re right though, once you get into it it’s pretty hard to go back!

      I don’t have a scale at my place but it feels like it’s about 25-30lbs!
      Small footprint, but very dense!
