Here in the South, lemonade is a favorite drink. To get the most juice out of lemons, freeze them. Thaw them in the fridge and the juice yield is increased. Doing this lets me use 3 lemons to get the 8 ozs of lemon juice for a half gallon of lemonade. It took 4 lemons to get 8 ozs before I found about the freeze trick.
Thank you for all of your great helpful tips. I never use celery up fast enough. I saw a tip on a cooking show to store the celery bunch wrapped in aluminum foil in the fridge. It works! No more celery going to waste because we can’t use it fast enough.
Such great tips! And a needed reminder to clean out the fridge 😅 I wrap onions individually in paper (using left over small paper bags or newspaper) and refrigerate. Lasts so much longer! For salad, add paper towel to absorb the moisture. I also place cloth napkins or dish towels to lign the fridge drawers - they absorb moisture and make cleaning the fridge easier - just throw them in the wash!
I buy my bananas when they are between green and yellow. They stay yellow longer. If I don't eat then soon enough, I peel them, freeze them, and make banana muffins. You can even smash them, put them in a freezer bag, flatten the bag, and freeze. The flat bag will store in the freezer, taking up less room. Just found your channel. Love it.
Happy weekend, Jennifer! There is so much great information on here… Great job! We hate throwing out food and try to avoid it at all cost. When we cook a meal, we try to keep it in mind if there are leftovers so we can use them up in the next few days. And due to one of your recommendations, my husband is getting a Food saver for Christmas. He just keeps talking about wanting one so here goes.😂
My overripe bananas are perfect for freezing! They're super sweet and loaded with natural sugars, making them great for smoothies or baking. When it comes to digestion, green bananas are a game changer. Their high starch content helps soothe an upset stomach, while overripe bananas can actually lead to fermentation in your gut. I am all about using them at the right stage for the best results.
Hi! To keep an avocado after you have cut it opened place it in a jar or a container with water and close the container. Place it in the refrigerador that will keep it fresh. Love.
Okay, I just had to see if you were correct about the frozen banana and strawberry ratio. "What are you doing?!" explained my hubby. "Checking on the banana and strawberry ratio." I said like it is what a normal person does. Husband, "Honey, you are letting your frugality get out of hand." He walks away. 🤣😂🤣😛 Should I tell him why? I think not. Too much fun messin' with his mind.
Hi Jennifer. Thanks so much for this! Another idea for lemons/limes is to grate the zest before squeezing the fruit and freezing it separately from the juice. When I make lemon tea bread, the zest punches up the flavour. I also save orange zest which is like gold here in Canada when the prices are crazy...Hugs as always.
I freeze any berries that are too soft for eating but not necessarily rotten to throw away. I have a plastic container in my freezer that I’ll add berries to. This is great for smoothies or fruit cobblers.
Hi Jennifer. Thanks for your tips- If you put a bag of walnuts in the freezer, they last for a year, because they do not get rancid. Also when you take them out of the freezer they can be eaten immedietelly or used in most recipes because they remain soft due to their high oil content. I like bananas when they are yellow.
Hey Jennifer, I hope all's well with you and your family - Thanks for the tips, I really don't want to waste any food if I can help it so this is really helpful 😊 BTW I'm team just turned from green to yellow banana and can't even look at a fully ripe/spotty banana 😳🤣
My tip is when you open a bag of potato chips and only eat half, put a clip or a clothes peg on the bag to seal it and put it in the freezer. They will stay fresh and crunchy for a very long time.
I freeze tofu and then defrost and dry focused. I marinate my own tofu using soy sauce and herbs. All fruit and that includes so called vegetables containing seeds emit higher amounts of ethylene gas which is the ripening gas. Th highest emitters are sub tropical and tropical fruits.
When it comes to avocados I freeze them by using them by my food saver and they stay forever in the freezer n so when yr ready to eat them just pop them out of the freezer and there u go....😅😅😅
Try herb salt when you have extra herbs. Blend fresh herbs with salt in a food processor. Dry your salt on a cookie sheet for a few days. The salt will preserve the herbs for a good long time.

I haven’t tried it yet but a friend told me about the aluminum foil trick for lettuce. Apparently it keeps the lettuce fresh for at least a week, if not 2 weeks. Also, we keep our washed & dried fruit in recycled glass containers and they stay fresh longer than keeping them in the plastic containers they come in.

Wendy, thank you for sharing this!
I'm doing this right now! Thanks 💛
Trying this right now!
Putting a handful of mini marshmallows in the brown sugar container is very helpful in preventing brown sugar from getting hard.
A piece of bread works too.
I like bananas when they're yellow! Though when they're spotted I like to use them for healthy pancakes.

Salad spinner for berries to really dry them off. Also works great for herbs like cilantro - wash and spin dry

Always wash the avocado before cutting to remove fungus. Storing it in water increases bacterial and fungal growth
Also another way is once you cut the avocado put it in a zip lock bag and refrigerate..keeps it fresh
Great idea about herbs in olive oil trays

Katherine, this made me laugh so much! I love this 🤣🤣🤣
Yellow. Just passed green.

Great idea!! Thank you for sharing ❤️
Good video
When I take the bread slice out of my brown sugar, I don't throw it away, I use it for French toast.
No waste!
Ruth, great idea!
excellent tip about the strawberries and lemons, also now is the season for apple cider, I would only buy the ones that are refrigerated.
Great tips I do the same thing with lemons and limes and bananas I cut them in half for smoothies .
Yellow bananas!! Yum.

Hi Bex! I hope you have a great week 🤗
Green bananas! I used to think differently until I developed blood sugar problems. Green bananas are best because they are lower in sugar.
If leftovers put in bag in freezer when full make soup out of left overs
Smart idea!
Thanks Jennifer, you're the best!
Nancy, thank you so much!
I like ripe but not spotted side
We put the berries after washing & drying into a airtight jar will last for weeks
Use dry old chocolate cake and smush it up with peanut butter or tahini and a little water to loosen Hey Presto = Chocolate spread!
Green bananas all the way!
Hi Jennifer 👋🏻
I need to put my butter in freezer.

I know I shouldn't be shopping but if I hypothetically was going to, what lip gloss are you wearing because it looks amazinggg. 😂
💚🍌💚 No mushy, spotty bananas!!!

Green bananas for me also
I'm lucky to get bananas from neighbors and prefer them in banana chocolate chip muffins. 🤣

Thanks for that!
I keep nuts and all my flours in the refrigerator
We stopped buying avocado
Banana allergic here, so a big nope for me!

I'm going to try this! I just threw away some the other day.
