    Sounds like it’s pretty safe to say that Gurley has peaked. His production will most likely start falling off next year. It’s not like his knee will start getting stronger as he ages and continues to take an NFL pounding.

    I think it’s important to educate patients on their understanding that just because someone has arthritis doesn’t mean they will 100% of the time have to get their joint replaced. People get joint replacements because their pain is limiting their quality of life. People can have arthritis and be asymptomatic. 10% reduction in body weight has been shown by literature to produce meaningful changes in patients pain control. Love the videos! Good stuff!

    I argued with everyone, including my coaches, parents, doctors, and physical therapists that I wasn’t the same after my ACL tear that hurt no other ligaments like him and they laughed and said if I work hard enough there’s “no reason I can’t come back stronger than before in that area” which made no sense to me. My knee is physically knocked inward due to the contact of the injury and the atrophy is evident. Even with fixed atrophy the load of weight placed on my knee is markedly off balance now and affects how I strike a ball and plant to make tackles. Love you hammering this point home. Running form is also forever different, as is my decrease in speed.

    I'm 28, I had a very bad left ankle dislocation that tore the deltoid ligament and ruptured my achilles at 16 yrs old. At 20, I had an ACL tear in my left knee. Surgical repair from top specialist Dr's, months and months of rehabilitation and restrengthening. At 28, my left leg from hip to toe is definitely weaker, stiffer, grinding during certain movements etc... Even as a very active person, I can attest that after such injuries you're different for life.

      In 8th grade I was playing football and my teammate landed on my knee and tore my ACL, I continued to play until I had surgery. Then junior year, I was starting on defense and they called my name and I ran through the tunnel, so I was about to chest bump, and when I landed. BOTH of my knees hyperextended. So I tore my ACL and I had a meniscal root tear in my left knee. Then I had some minor tearing in my right knee; unknowingly and assuming it was a MCL sprain. I knew what the pain was, but. I worked sooo hard and I didn’t want it to go to waste so I returned to play, I went through 4 weeks of practice and an entire game with some minor buckling and then some 330 pound dude landed on it, and my knee was gone after that. Now I’m 3 months post op and I have all of the muscle strength back and was moved up a month on my protocol so I’m allowed to jump and pull resistance bands. Hard work is the best work.

    • @Pewpshmear
      @Pewpshmear 5 років тому +24

      That's kind of a "pseudo" myth. Tommy John surgery doesn't "increase" their peak performance; at best, it can match peak performance. The reason the myth persists is because their pitching speed post-surgery is compared to their performance just before their injury that indicated the surgery, at which point their UCL has already been degrading for years. It's like saying "heart transplants make your heart way better than before the transplant!" Well yeah it does, because you only need a heart transplant if your heart was already failing before the transplant.

    I had my knee x-rayed or something about two or so years after an knee injury and was told it was completely or a complete torn ACL. I don't think I've had arthritis but I do have backaches and knee and leg pains and life long constant uncomfortable, unstable conditions. I was 18. No rehab or treatment. I tumble nowhere abruptly even while walking in my room. I always pay attention to the knee. Otherwise, I feel the knee and leg might break and collapse or at least something from the knee would be "ejected" from the back of the knee. Something is always wrong even it's lying down. What a life. Nobody knows this.

Rehabbed super hard right away and was ahead of schedule but now that I've started sprinting pretty heavily my knee has some pain even just walking up stairs or sitting too long is this normal or is this something to be concerned about? Every single time I lift my leg to 90 degrees or higher my hip pops very loud, it doesn't hurt unless I do it a ton, but it feels weird.

    I re tore my ACL.... (this second time I also tore meniscus) I went to see two doctors. First doctor says he doesn’t recommend surgery because I have arthritis. Second doctor says he does recommend surgery even though I have arthritis. I’m so confused don’t know what to do. I’m 43yr old female

    Brian I’m 19, I tore my ACL, MCL and damaged my meniscus playing soccer. I haven’t had the surgery yet and I was told I’d be 4x more likely to have arthritis if I did have it. Sports have been my life up until this point. Obviously I’m not a pro athlete and won’t have the resources to all the training and treatment so what would my recovery be like? Would I be able to play anything normally again?

      @@vamsisrikanthrallabandi7015 as of right now no signs. I’m still in my early 20’s so things may change in the future. I still have problems with a meniscus in the same knee but nothing seems to be a sign of arthritis
