Great video. The toll lanes are definitely worth it to get around the Huntersville and Lake Norman congestion and also the i-85 SB to I-77 SB junction disaster.
Love ur videos KS plus true they should of gone Texas style interstates like I-10 from Katy Texas
nice tour. Cinta seems to have the monopoly on private tolled facilities in north america
Thank you! Yeah, Cintra does control the majority of private tolling projects, especially recently. Sort of makes me glad that CDOT chose someone else to do the Central 70 Project in Denver.
charlotte doesnt need toll roads, they just need to simply widen the freeway so its not bumper to bumper everyday at rush hour
The Cleveland Bypass, Interstate 271, has 2 dedicated "Express" lanes in each direction and anywhere between 3-5 "Local" lanes in each direction. The express lanes are free, have a higher speed limit, and every 3 miles or so you can exit to or from the Local or Express Lanes. Still in my opinion the best use of Express Lanes in the US. It was a big arguements between municipalities when this massive highway expansion happened but the development and jobs it created was well worth it. Pittsburgh has reversible inner lanes on Interstate 279 going in/out of downtown. Also pretty cool.
You are correct if you want that the New York New Jersey version I-78 exits 48-58 and I-95 tolled express lanes Cars only Western Spur Upper Deck Local Cars Trucks Buses Eastern Spur Lower Deck from exit 6 in Burlington County all the way to the Bronx I-87 Exit 7N-S New Haven, CT Trenton, NJ.
Great video. As a part-year resident of Davidson this is definitely the worst road in the Charlotte Metro area not to mention the multiple avoidable motorist deaths cause as a result of Cintra's bad safety measures during construction. Most people I know who live up on Lake Norman refuse to use it on principle. The toll lanes also only increase wealth inequality in the region. :( Your comment about capacity constraints is correct though. Widening existing roads has proven to do nothing as expansion increases usage negating the purpose of construction. If they really wanted to fix the issue they should have left I-77 as it was and invested in a private-public partnership on the commuter rail they all were talking about 5-10 years ago, that would've made a real difference.
Yes. Alternative transport is a great way to get traffic off the road and reduce congestion. Cities that don't accept it will just keep expanding and expanding the roads without seeing improvement. The express lanes could have at least been less controversial it they had gone with just one express lanes and added a general purpose lane, but that would also need to be supplemented with better public transport. In Colorado, the US-36 project shows how something like that can be done right, with more capacity and safety for both cars and Bus Rapid Transit.
The company that owns the existing rail in Virginia will not grant NC rights to the passageway. So that means that the city would have to build new rail which is a whole lot more expensive and difficult to do
Once again you exemplify photogenic excellence!! Bravo good sir.
Wow. Thank you so much! That means a lot to me.
Beautiful. Great route getting to the downtown metro area. Excellent side notes of highway history and landmarks. Amazing video. Loved the music also!!! 😄😄😄
Lanes for the haves....and have nots (a bad idea for this stretch of interstate)....
If implemented correctly (which I am not saying that these are), express lanes can increase travel speeds in both the Express and general purposes lanes because they add capacity without inticing more people to use the section of roadway. If all the lanes added were general purpose, more people would switch to driving rather than taking public transport because of a perceived decrease in travel times. What actually happens is that those people switching away from public transport overwhelm the extra capacity, often making traffic worse than before the project took place.
@@InterstateKS 2 express lanes can be good, but without the 3 general purpose lanes (which is the magic number imo, no more than that) it just comes of as just a cash grab. and maybe even a finger in the eyes of some people as it straight up punishes those who don't want to use it. They should've placed by default 3 gen purposes lanes before tolled express and/or HOV lanes imo.
Don't Get Lost - I agree with you on that one. I explained that in the video.
Nice video but much better on mute.
Well I, and a majority of other road video creators, believe that music adds to the videos in a way that makes them appeal to an audience outside of just roadgeeks.
