  • Derek and I had so much fun visiting our college friends in Atlanta, Georgia this spring!
    Neither of us had spent considerable time in Atlanta prior to this visit, so we didn’t know what to expect when we arrived. We ended up finding a busy food city with great art and culture to boot - what a treat!
    After a long weekend exploring around town, eating tons of food, visiting attractions, asking questions to my pals who live there, and so much more, I felt that I was able to get a pretty solid lay of the land.
    On the last day of my ATL stay, I had a blast filming this video dedicated to anyone else who is planning a trip to Atlanta!
    If you have any additional suggestions or questions, feel free to add them in the comments below! We always love learning from each other in this community.
    Hope you enjoy! Cheers, and happy travels!

    As an (almost) Atlanta native, I realized that Stone Mountain park wasn’t mentioned, which has been a staple attraction for as long as I can remember. It fits in with the many outdoor attractions mentioned, as you can hike up the enormous granite monolith, go camping, fishing, attend seasonal festivals, etc., and it’s within close proximity to the city itself, fyi.

    Went there in 2018 great city. Loved King Center, Jimmy Carter Museum, Coke Museum, ate at Varsity, Toured Mercedes Benz Stadium then Margaret Mitchell Museum where Gone With the Wind was wrote. Then took CNN tour before leaving back to Ok. Plus met Robin Meade from HLN morning express before going off air. Want to go back see some more stuff a lot to see. Need at least 2-3 full days to get experience for sure.

    Eliz and Derek, you mentioned you went to Nearby Athens, Ga. I would like to mention that Athens is the birthplace of Southern Rock Music, bands like The Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker ,
    Charlie Daniels and Lynyrd Skynyrd. There is the music walk of fame. Harriet and I also enjoyed Atlanta and its Food Markets and Restaurants. If there is a don't to mention. It's Hartsfield Airport
    in Atlanta. Very Busy and Very Difficult. Great info to know when traveling to Atlanta and surrounding cities. Sending you lots of love💖💖💖 Harriet, Jim and Yuki. Richmond. Va.

    Eliz, nice to see your tips on Atlanta! How does Athens compare to Bloomington? REM started/developed in Athens, which is how I became aware of it.

      Good question! We actually didn't spend enough time in Athens to really say, since this was such a quick trip. I think it deserves its own long weekend! (for research, of course 😀)

    I'll be visiting Atlanta for New Years week. I'll be there for around 5 days. I intend on going to the Coke museum and Zoo Atlanta but likely will pass up the aquarium as its kinda expensive. I'll also pass on Stone Mountain as I have a fear of heights. In terms of restaurants, I'll mostly be eating at Waffle House or Bojangles as they don't have them where I live (San Diego) but I also want to try Mary Mac's Tea Room after watching a Wolter's World video on Atlanta.

      Sounds like you've done some great research and planning, and have a good itinerary lined up for what you like! And interesting, I didn't realize they don't have Waffle Houses in San Diego, so you taught me something new!

    Eliz, Atlas Obscura just did a podcast on the tiny doors dotted around ATL and the artists that make and decorate them. I highly recommend you give it a listen!

      It probably all depends on how interested you are in the exhibits, but I'd say a couple hours minimum at each! Have fun in Atlanta!

    I like Helen, but even they will admit they have no German heritage, it was just an idea to attract tourist to a town on hard times, and it worked. Atlanta is a center for higher education with 32 colleges and universities such as Georgia Tech, Emory and HBCUs like Clark and Morehouse. Why you would direct people two hours east to visit a college well outside the metropolitan area is an insult to all the great universities actually within metro Atlanta. Would you tell people visiting New York to take a day trip to Syracuse?

    • @MeansToTravel
      @MeansToTravel  Рік тому +1

      Haha please know I wasn't hating on Atlanta schools, but it wouldn't be a day trip if you stayed within Atlanta! It would just be another local attraction. Plus, two of my best friends went to Georgia, so I'm happy to share about the college town they love. 😇

    • @MeansToTravel
      @MeansToTravel  Рік тому +1

      Also, I know this is a bit pedantic, but as someone who used to live in NYC for many many years, Syracuse is too far away for a daytrip. BUT! I went to IU and would 100% say to take a daytrip to Bloomington if you visit Indy (one hour away) because Bloomington is so fun!
