- I spent a few days here and endless rain stopped most filming, however in a brief lull in the rain I did get a little exploring in! Huai'an in Jiangsu is an old city situated on the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and is the hometown of some very famous people...let's go!

Thanks Nick for sharing! I can feel your love of Chinese culture and history.
That's my pleasure! I hope you enjoy the videos!
Yeah... Nick is not just another tourist. He's so knowledgeable. It looks like he is also on some kind of pilgrimage.
Huai'an and the Xuzhou area have produced many famous emperors and generals in Chinese history. They have a strong historical tradition of resisting the autocratic rule of ancient Chinese dynasties. Liu Bang, Xiang Yu, Zhu Yuanzhang and other figures have their names shining in the long history. The famous novel Journey to the West you mentioned was once banned during the Ming Dynasty because the book implicitly expressed disdain and resistance to the dynastic autocracy. Very interesting, thank you NICK for visiting so many wonderful places during the cold season. Looking forward to your trip to Yangzhou。
Yeh, this part of Jiangsu has some really deep and interesting history. The videos of this journey are almost at an end...but my summer trip will start shortly!
Wow, I have watched so many videos of foreigners touring big and famous cities. This is the first video of someone visiting my hometown. I attended the high school next to the Wentong Pagoda. My classroom is literally 100 meter away from it. I have been living aboard for more than 20 years. Your video brought back so many of my childhood memories. Last time I visited Huai’An was 5 years ago before Covid. I hope I will be able to go back in the near future. ❤
Oh nice! I try to go to places most people don't often visit. Some interesting history in your hometown!
Huai'an was where my mom's side of fam settled after emigrating from Shandong... it's also the hometown of Gao Hu; lead-singer of the band Miserable Faith - 痛仰乐队。
I enjoy your series of videos of historical places and people.
Keep up the good work 👍👍
Thanks, happy you are enjoying them!
Smaller cities like Huai'an earned their fame by the remarkable people they produced, who claim the city as their hometown. These two remarkable names alone: Wu Cheng'en and Zhou Enlai, are enough for Huai'an to be a pilgrimage destination for centuries into the future. It's not clear how many journeys the author Wu Cheng'en took in his life. Zhou Enlai was well travelled, studied in Japan and France in his youth, and throughout his career met most of the important political figures of his time.
They are two very big names indeed! There were a lot of things i didn't get the chance to see while I was here, torrential rain for days...
My mother grew up in Huaiyin until she and my father went to Taiwan in 1949. Your video makes me miss them more. Thank you.
Well, i hope you enjoyed the video. It's a nice place, wish i had more time there
Thank you so much for continuing to share parts of China that are little known outside of China. One thing I did was to zoom out from Huai'an in Google Maps Satellite mode and look at the vast expanse of farmland extending from Huai-an to the coast. That looks to me like a big Chinese rice bucket to feed the people.
Glad you are enjoying them! Currently planning my summer trip...i'm thinking a full journey through Inner Mongolia....we shall see!
@@nickinchina2552 wow great plan! The shape of inner Mongolia tells a lot about how Mongolian joined China.
So grateful to you, Nick, for the visit to Premier Zhou 's birthplace . My hero!
Very welcome! Zhou Enlai is such an important 20th century figure
Another city of historical importance!
Look forward to your video of Yangzhou, a city I've visited twice.
Oh great! Yangzhou was fun actually, a really nice city to explore on foot.
Apart from China, you won’t find another city with such a long history, well-preserved architecture, and people with the same ancestry passed down from generation to generation.
We Chinese have been so organized for thousands of years. I can trace back my ancestries for the last 20 generations or more from our ancestry temple. With my family or surname, I can go to our ancestry temple to find out who my great, great, great grandparents are. It's all well recorded.
my superpower country india? our advancement is light years ahead of china though
Come on, Europe has plenty.
@@308_Negra_Arroyo_Lane Three thousand years or more of history? Habitable ancient buildings instead of ruins? Stable and linear heritage?
@@Gerry-t1w LMFAO!!!!!!! Yes, Europe has MUCH MUCH MUCH more than China because everything was built in stone. China actually has very little beyond a few hundred years. LOLOLOLOL!
Amazing video as always Nick, China it's awesome!
China IS awesome! Glad you liked it!
A nice episode 👍👍
Thanks man!
Such a lovely video of Huai’an. If I am in the area, I would definitely make a stop to visit Zhou En-Lai’s home. Thank you.
My pleasure, glad you enjoyed the vid!
President Jiang Zhemin was born in Yangzhou. HuaiYang (Hauiyang+Yangzhou ) cuisine is also famous.
Sorry... it should be Huaian+Yangzhou
❤❤
I really recommend foreign friends to visit China like you. Traveling anywhere in China is not an adventure because it is safe and convenient. You can fully experience the different scenery, people and food in each place.Although big cities are surprising, small places also have different artistic conceptions.
I noticed that you also know "Journey to the West", which is a magical novel based on true events. The play tells the story of Tang Monk who went to ancient India to introduce Buddhism to China.
佛教不是玄奘法师带到中国的,汉朝时期佛教就传入中国了。
Travelling in China is a dream
Love the ambience of the video
Rainy and overcast does give a nice feel sometimes!
When would you visit Changzhou? I'm from here and living here😂
I...didn't go to Changzhou :( But i will, one day! I promise! haha
@@nickinchina2552 looking forward to it and you are always welcomed😉
Maybe Nick can carry an umbrella with him in his travels in China because the further south he goes, he will encounter more rainfall.
I have a dreadful record of losing umbellas hahahaha
You shouldn't miss Yingxian wooden pagoda.
I went there! There is a video a little further back on my channel called 'my favourite building in China' - It is...absolutely marvellous!!!!!!!!
