Steve has always been my favourite player. I remember how much I loved watching Ray Reardon on my little black and white TV as a child! He was great!🧛♂️❤
Wouldn't you say he was the first "great player" of the modern era, then came Hendry/O Sullivan, surely those three are the household names of the past 35 years
+PA28 About spot on really, although Higgins and White were usually in the papers for fighting and losing respectively. These days, i totally, 100% have way more time for players like Davis. When I was younger I wanted to see all the bish, bash, bosh!! Now, I pray for a prolonged safety battle, really enjoy that.
When I was much younger I used to despise this guy , my mother , brother even the dog hated him , when Taylor beat him in the world championship we were all jumping up and down cheering . This was all due to the playing persona he projected . Now, I think he's a great bloke , a British icon and everyone loves 'the nugget' all continuing success and happiness to you sir
@@iblacka1 You are certainly not wrong but you say turned out to be. He was a beautiful human in 1981, his only crime was that he was more dedicated than his competitors.
His Dad was always in his corner and part of this involved keeping an eye on his game but I don't think he would have seen himself as a coach. Steve used Frank Callan as a professional coach at various points throughout his career.
That was wonderful. He was my hero in the 1980s but I’d never seen this programme before. I wasn’t wrong about him, I love the fact he was so close to his parents and kept his feet on the ground. He’s actually always been a rather interesting chap and not deserving of his nickname at all. How many other snooker players paid for their favourite French progressive rock group to come over to the U.K. and play some shows?
It's funny but I think I could have guessed this was from either 1986, 1987 or 1988 just from the style of the programme and the general atmosphere of it. Odd how you can narrow things down to just two or three years in that way without knowing beforehand the precise year it was broadcast. I was around in 1987 albeit at primary school, so I do remember that time but only through the eyes of a fairly young child.

Definitely in the top 3 Greatest ever players off all-time. My top 5 is: 1. Ronnie O'Sullivan 2. Stephen Hendry 3. Steve Davis 4. John Higgins 5. Jimmy White /Alex Higgins.
Doubt it,6 time world champion and COMPLETELY DOMINATED the 80s. He says his dad really helped him,but you have watched this for an hour and now you know better 😆 🤣 😂 Do you know how stupid that sounds?
Fred and Joe Davis were brothers who were also multiple snooker world champions so there was an association by name and profession. People often thought Steve was the son of one of them.
His dad was a frustrated player....steve would've been so much more better without him. Hendry, o'Sullivan, white they've never had a frustrated dad as a coach.
It says so much that he was a lovely bloke even then, while still the greatest ever and dominating his sport. Class.
A very down to earth person

People forget how good this Lad was

PA28 Alex higgins started the game.
@@hughmungus1235 just so incorrect, no players play based on Higgins as great as he was. Davis was the basis for O'Sullivan
@@danielhughes2014 And Reardon was the basis for Davis as he states in this video.
Steve was very charming and so easy on the ear
Thank you! Thank you! Thank You for this !!!
You're welcome mate, it's a lovely little documentary, glad you appreciate it.
Great upload!!!
Interesting.
Pardon the pun
Steve davis, Ray Reardon, Stephen Hendry and Ronnie O'Sullivan. The best players this game has ever seen.
@SE no he wasn’t as good. I think John Higgins should be in the conversation.
I liked Russel Harty he was a good interviewer very natural
Very interesting
No mention of Gong or Magma?
Steve Davis - Pure Gold
Steve’s south London accent comes through despite the corporate edge on his accent.

Was just the same. I saw him on Question Of Sport once and thought hang on, there's more to Steve Davis
I'm exactly the same Fire. I'm now embarrassed that I wanted that cnut Dennis Taylor to beat him.
I agree with you in 1981 I hated Davis but what a beautiful human being he turned out to be!! ❤

Odd isn’t it?
Really very good indeed. Thanks for sharing.
Am I right in thinking his dad was his coach? Russell Harty hit the nail on the head about his dad.

God bless you always my friend! :)

Shades of Alan Partridge with Steve's dj bum comment.
Mr Davis is a refreshing change from the arrogant likes of Alex Higgins. A thoroughly enjoyable show.
Davis is a soul man!

He would've been better without his dad. I've just worked that out by just watching this for an hour

Maybe so Steve's father was not a snooker coach, and they just worked of the Joe Davis book of snooker, learning as they went.
Can someone explain the Fred/Joe Davis joke?
Fred and Joe Davis were brothers who were also multiple snooker world champions so there was an association by name and profession. People often thought Steve was the son of one of them.
6:50...if your dad knows what he's talking about, how come he's not world champion. Get out of that lol
That sandwich looked gross
MIGHT of looked gross... But I bet there were to die for.
