Hey, there! This is a series I've been wanting to do: Sega Genesis at 60 frames per second! Why? Well... have you ever watched an older game on UA-cam and noticed the main character turn invisible when hit, or some other such nonsense? That's because some older games use some ridiculously high speed flicker effects to achieve those crazy hitflashes on bosses or that "ouch I'm hurt!" flicker! These are not displayed properly at 30 fps, but now that we're able to upload at 60 fps we can see all the special effects that older games would use! (They'll be smoother, too!)

Pinocchio finds out he's made an ass of himself by ignoring his father's wishes and partaking in brick throwing balloonery. Sucks, man. Now he has to climb some seaside cliffs while avoiding the spectres of the Coachmen's thugs. Let this be a lesson to you, kids! Be cool, stay in school!

Virgin Interactive is known for doing great things with their games, especially Disney-wise! This one though... this one... I didn't even know this one existed! And well, it's kinda, uh, haphazard, to put it nicely. You'll go through the Disney movie with totally random minigame-type things thrown in, like fighting fireflies as Jiminy, or riding a ROLLERCOASTER (???) at Pleasure Island. There's also a memorization game during the puppet show when you perform as Pinocchio.
Anyway, this game just feels like it coulda had a bunch more polish applied. I mean, it has some neat ideas and the animation is pretty good for the parts they focus on (Oddly, Pinocchio has Mickey's weird standing pose from Mickey Mania), but it just feels slightly incoherent/not... "good". I'm happy I gave it a go, though, Virgin Interactive makes solid stuff! It was crazy when I found out they made a PINOCCHIO game of all things! (And somehow I never knew about it!)

Some additional notes for those technically inclined:
This was captured from an original Sega Genesis system via composite output along with stereo sound to get as authentic a recording as possible. The Genesis used is one of the "good" models with proper sound and video output. Genesis can also output an RGB signal which is clearer, but I vetoed the idea because it breaks the dithering effect (color blending and transparencies) as seen here:

Also, the vast majority of people could not use the RGB signal even if they wanted to, so the experience they remember would be the composite signal as shown in this video.
There are a couple things to note about the quality of the video, however. Sega Genesis has a very dirty video signal that often "breaks" attempts to capture it with a capture device. The capture device I use is considered one of the most capable when it comes to older systems, but the Genesis' video signal still introduces some inconsistencies. These usually manifest where there are extremely thin lines in game, mostly the text, and in some other places as well. As a whole, it is more than manageable, but it is worth noting.
Also, the original sega genesis resolution is, in essence, 240p at 60 frames per second. To take advantage of UA-cam's higher bitrate offerings and to enable 60 fps I need to upscale that resolution to 1080p. There is also a step of video deinterlacing before that to create crisp video. That is a significant amount of video processing to the image, so I want to note that here as well. - Ігри
The fact that killing the Coachman automatically made Pinocchio turn into a real boy shows how evil the Coachman truly is.
Ahh, how we ALL wished that happened in the movie...Lampwick gets his revenge by kicking the Coachman in the foot, and Pinocchio kicks the Coachman into the dark watery abyss to be never seen again

Agreed. He might not have faced justice in the movie, but at least Disney was kind enough to make a game where you can teach the Coachman a lesson.

Andrew Brigmond there was actually a deleted scene from the movie where the coachman instructs honest john to recapture pinocchio after he escaped pleasure island so that ''the law doesn't learn of our business''. I think we can infer from that that Pinocchio and Geppetto would have notified the police, and the coachman would have been imprisoned.
I don't know why they left it out, it was a pivotal scene.
Some people argue that the Coachman, through his greed and corruption, was actually doing a decent service by ridding the town of future lawbreakers and troublemakers by turning those boys into the inner true donkeys they were and selling them to salt mines and circuses where they would actually be put to good use.
I always saw Stromboli as ten times worse than the Coachman and Monstro put together. HE was an evil, greedy monster.
@@infinidadabsoluta5719 Well he did say "stupid little disobedient boys who play hooky from school". True, in Pinocchio's case, Honest John forced him to go, and Gideon was prepared to knock him out with the mallet if he refused.
Actually satisfying to see The Coachman get his comeuppance here,I wished Walt Disney would made this happen in the actual 1940 movie instead of letting him get off scot-free with his cruel deeds and the boys getting a second chance in life to learn from their mistakes and prove themselves to be unselfish and good after being turned into donkeys as punishment for their misbehavior and their curse was lifted. As scary as the Coachman was,he should’ve gotten punished for his wicked actions if they made it happen in the actual 1940 movie.
The 2nd biggest thing I hated about the movie other than jimminy criket being annoying was the fact that the coachman got away with his crimes and was never punished for his actions
So to see him get flat out murdered in this official video game is amazing especially since the slave donkeys probably finally had the curse lifted learned from there mistakes and was granted a second chance of childhood.
I'm gonna consider this canon
