I am thoroughly impressed by the Rheinmetall/Raytheon variant of the Lynx KF41 contender. It’s incredibly modern design, coupled with its inherent modularity, make it a strong competitor. The fact that it was designed from the outset by Rheinmetall, to be network centric makes it a continuously upgradable platform.

30mm doesn’t make much of a difference from 25mm. There’s nothing 30mm auto cannon can penetrate or destroy that a 25mm cannot. As for the TOW, it’s getting replaced in 2028.
The US army’s new IFV’s and scout vehicles will be using a 50mm auto cannon. And will likely use whatever replaces the TOW or maybe the 4.5 km range Javelin missile

Originally, vehicles such as the M113 (labelled armored personnel carrier) was meant as a combat taxi. Aluminum body bag is a more fitting description. Someone else pointed out that they can be trashed with drones. Highly probable, but I'd rather run the risk of encountering a drone while being transported to the FEBA than hump how ever much gear I'm carrying to get there. A little protection is better than none. PLUS if your specialty (other than infantry) takes you into a combat zone it helps to have a transport mode other than a jeep/wheeled vehicle to lug your equipment. Our Ground Radar system was a no less than 3 man carry aside from your personal kit and weapon.

If total ammunition is a concern. then use the Bushmaster 4 40mm. you can stuff lots more 40mm ammo in a IFV than you can 50 or 57mm and you have plenty of anti infantry/drone fragmentation with modern 40mms. its certainly WAY better than making a crappy airburst 30mm.

They have active protection systems, Lazer weapons, and frequency jammers in the works to counter the drone threats.

@@T_81535 Germany and Kongsberg of Norway have an interesting system in the works. It's a somewhat regular Protector Remote waepons station with extra sensors and a 40mm GMG, using airburst grenades.
It would be relatively cheap, less dangerous to surrounding troops compared to APS, and could also be used on normal ground targets.

Far from obsolete. Technically any armored military vehicle on the battlefield can be destroyed by drones as of right now. No matter the armor. It’s how the military adds defensive capabilities to take out these drones that will make the difference and the army has already developed and tested a new laser system that is more than capable of taking out swarms of drones. The XM30 is able to provide the necessary power needed to use this system and be successful. Once it’s integrated these vehicles will have an legitimate response to the drone problem.
