      HEY ClausenWorld!!! Thanks, I am recycling now. I did not do that last year. I only had a few containers. I will get some big ones next time for my melons. The voles are still killing me.

    my kids love helping me harvest the potatoes, its our favorite part of gardening lol and yes i do save my soil and amend it with bone meal, veggie fertilizer and compost and set it to the side for my next seed potatoes.

    Makes me happy. Im growing potatoes in a cloths hamper with holes cut out at the bottom. But i was worried that it was a bit small. So if you got potatoes in 5gal buckets i should get a good amount in my cloths hamper thats probably 15gal size.

      HEY Matty!!! You could get more. That depends on the nutrients, climax,, and watering...... You have more space in the growing space than me.

    I harvested some Red skin potatoes and some Yukon gold potatoes earlier this week and all I did with the soil is add 2 inches of black cow to it and some organic 4-5-4 fertilizer and planted more! After this next batch I’ll just use the old soil to fill holes in the backyard or dump at the bottom of my raised beds! Also as long as your potatoes doesn’t have any disease issues such as blight, the soil is good to reuse. Also after you plant potatoes you can plant beans and peas in the potato soil and they will clean the soil up. It’s all about crop rotation! Happy Growing

    • @GrowSomethingTasty
      @GrowSomethingTasty  3 місяці тому

      Thanks for the information on how to clean up the soil. I did not reuse my soil last year, but I had only a few buckets, but I will use that soil now.

    I like the harvest potato video. I also use 5 gallon buckets. It so easy to harvest, i will always do some that way. This year i have some in ground in my Grocery Row Garden and 4 of the 5 gallon buckets.

  • @AdirondackRuby
    @AdirondackRuby 3 місяці тому +3

    Yeah, I always reuse/repurpose my soil. Usually give it a boost by mixing in compost (or the remains of my seed starting soil or just whatever). My potatoes aren't anywhere as far along as yours (but I live up North) but I'm still excited to see how they do this year (my 3rd summer). I grow mine in the ground, but I'm thinking about going with containers for next year, so free up space for more veggies.

    • @GrowSomethingTasty
      @GrowSomethingTasty  3 місяці тому +1

      Cool, I just did that with some of my soil. I added compost, blood meal, and leaf mold. I ran out of bone meal. It will free up space for you. Good luck with your potatoes this year.

    Put cucumber peels in or around your container to keep the ants away. I put all kinds of ammendments in my used soil and use it again. I use those Walmart tubs with the lids to plant in. I set the tub on top of the lid. I ammend my soil with chicken poop, rock phosphate, kelp, blood meal and lots of stuff!

    Beautiful harvest...don't discard the really little potatoes. They are delicious in a pot of green beans and can also be roasted in the air fryer with a tiny bit of olive oil and seasoning. I always refuse my potting soil. Add some compost and slow release fertilizer. Keep up the good work!!!

    I didn't know you were a potato farmer now Bear, that does look like fun!
    I just wanted to tell you my melon's finally are boom'in! They started off a little slow but now they're in full swing !!!
    I got the baby sweet's this year, I've never had them before but I heard they're pretty good! They're a little bit smaller but easier to trellis! Every day I go out and check on them and it seems like another one has popped up overnight !!!I got about 9 or ten melon's so far! I also have one huge cuccumber plant that I've already harvested two large cuccumber's and I left the other one on the vine to see how big it will get, that thing is HUGE !!! That's the biggest cuccumber that I've ever seen in my life !!! My tomatoe's are popp'in too, there's alot of them of all different sizes, they're still green though, gotta wait till they get big & ripe !!!
    Keep making the video's bro, I keep watch'in out for them cuz we're all learning from each other, I always learn something new from your video's !!!
    Thanks my friend, stay cool out there, it's hotter than hell in Missouri !!! 😰😫

      Michael, I'm trying to grow as much as I can. I found another potato bucket the next day. That's great you have all those melons, I'm still battling voles. One got in my raised bed again. You have large cucumbers, you are rolling over there. Don't let them go to seed, I always heard that will shut the plant down. I'll keep at making videos, I'm glad they are being watched.

      I was thinking about that earlier and I decided to go ahead and pick the cucumber, I'd rather have a bunch of regular size one's than just one big one!

    • @GrowSomethingTasty
