The praire dog is a great inclusion for a zoo game, as in america they are extremley common in NA or children's areas!
Personally I want more animal packs featured around biomes such as a rainforest pack that could feature many desired species such as the capybara or tree kangaroo.
An arid pack could also work similarly with additions such as the addax and wombat.

I just think it’s the most distinctive and flashiest vulture design-wise to include. The Lappet-faced Vulture is close second on my list of vulture candidates, though.

Another great review that I couldn't agree more with how great animal packs are. First 3 DLCs were deffinatly planned from the beginning but everything from aquatic onward has been fan service in the best way possible. Here's to an even better third year
I guess I'm that person lol I love that we have African desert scenery. I think alot of people underestimate how diverse and huge the continent of Africa is. The base game scenery that we got is more stereotypical of what we westerners think of Africa
Don't let this guys review confuse you. Many people in the community on the forums discord reddit etc consider Africa to be the best pack due to its ridiculously reusable foliage like the Dune Grass as well as how many reusable wood pieces and plaster pieces we got. The region specific pieces are also very well designed and gave a breath of fresh air to a climate the game hadn't really taken into account.
Well fuck me I guess for voicing a different opinion than the majority, right? The grass is not even offered in the DLC, it was a free base game inclusion in the patch. The Africa pack literally only offered 3 plants and their different variations in shape. Valuing scenery is perfectly fine, as I said, many people will disagree with me on that front, but I value animals more, and that is an opinion I am absolutely confident on.
I interned at a zoo in real life and cared for/officially named the dwarf caimans. It’s also a fairly common animal in real world zoos (alligators and caimans being the two crocodilians I see most often in captivity). So that was one of the species I was most excited about on the list, and I’m now highly tempted to buy the game.
The Prairie Dog is my favorite of the NA Pack. Smaller species are desperately needed in this game and most of the small ones we got so far are carnivores. This makes the P dog feel very unique. On top of that rodents are very poorly represented in-game.
I think the rodent roster has gotten better! Capybaras, beavers, porcupines, and prairie dogs are awesome! What else could be added?
@@BigBossMan538 it has for sure improved but there are still some good choices to come for. Patagonian Mara and Alpine Marmot would be great to see. Also North American and/or South American Porcupine would be great.

@@zombefyer2.047 I don't think they will ever do the Coyote, its way to similair to the Wolf we already have in the game. There is also this: After the European colonization of the Americas, it was seen in Anglo-American culture as a cowardly and untrustworthy animal. Unlike wolves, which have seen their public image improve, attitudes towards the coyote remain largely negative. Which means you hardly see Coyotes outside North-American Zoos. It think its just not popular enough to be included in the game, nor has it distinct features the Probiscus Monkey or Babirusa do have.
However, i can see them including another Swimming animal and then i think about the Northern Elephant Seal, since its distinctive enough from the Californian Sea Lion and Grey Seal.
I also feel like we have too many bears in the game as is already and the American Black Bear would be a more boring option compared to the Grizzly Bear, which we already have in the game.

I think the Prairie Dog is a good pick for the North America pack. Living in the US, nearly every zoo I've been to has had Prairie Dogs.

I think the next DLC we are getting is an Animal pack, to be more exact, a South America animal Pack, with 8/10 animals, which can include
1. Peccary
2. Ocelot/Jaguarundi
3. Howler Monkey (Or other New World Monkey species)
4. Armadillo
5. Maned Wolf
6. Guanaco/Vicuna
7. Southern Tamandua (Its distinct enough to the Anteater we already have in the game)
8. Brown Throated Sloth/Capybara
9. Red Tegu (Exhibit animal)
10. Darwins Frog (Exhibit animal)

I, like you, want an aquarium and aviary pack but I think it could also be interesting to have a desert pack too. Finally bringing in the Dromedary camel as well as some other desert dwellers like a coyote and the like. We got the wetlands, so I think a dryland would be nice too. Or maybe more rainforest animals too from greater Asia.

Honestly all the packs should be more animal oriented since i play for the animals and not really for the décor stuff, so most dlc only having 5 animals is bullshit to me

i hoped to see the european dlc also in this video :( like the video a lot but the european dlc is missing. love your opinion on the dlc's.

Gameplay ideas (for franchise and challenge mode or even a new game mode called Zoo manager mode (or difficulty level if you wish)). I really think that the game is not challenging at all in regards to gameplay. It becomes boring after a while. It must need to be necessary to make an effort to keep things running. After building for a while if I do everything correctly I can just abandon the game for hours and things just keep running, money accumulates and nothing happens. It just looks like a mini train maquette game and not a management game.
Fulfil certain husbandry and conservation targets to be able to acquire certain species (for example elephants or pandas). It does not make sense that a beginners zoo with enough CCs is capable to adopt pandas, elephants or big cats without having a fully trained, qualified and experienced team for example. In real-world zoos these species are incredibly hard to obtain and keep. It is too easy currently in the game. You get a fine or the animals are taken away if you do not fulfil these criteria. This would represent not just a new financial and management challenge but as well your animals would be there to reach goals (conservation goals) not just to be actors on the stage/scenario (habitat) you built for them:
- You need to have 3 five start keepers and 1 five star vet to be able to adopt an elephant or 5 five start keepers and 2 five start vets to adopt pandas.
- You have to research about the species before you can adopt it. Eg: you have to reach level 3 of research to be able to adopt elephants and level 5 for pandas
- You have to participate in in-situ conservation projects to be able to adopt that species. Eg: you must pay for the panda conservation project in the wild (1Million per year or a percentage of your annual income/donations for that species) to be allowed to keep the animals in your zoo. If you do not pay the animals will be taken to another zoo and your reputation get hurt.
- reproduction targets. Eg: you must be able to breed an elephant in five years
- Release into the wild one animal of these species every 10 years.
Keep up with the welfare standards or get punished:
- If the inspector finds animals in bad welfare in 2 visits in a row you are not allowed to adopt new animals until those problems get fixed and the inspector makes the next visit
- Veterinarian procedures must cost money! Costs with drugs, surgery, treatments, etc are usually a big part of a zoo's budget
Animal breeding must be harder and realistic. Currently, it is way too easy and boring to breed animals. It does not feel rewarding and it even gets ignored in the way how easy and numerous it is:
- In real life, animals constantly lose offspring. Absorptions, dead newborns, low survival of cubs, etc. If the female suffers an episode of disease, hunger, fight, thirsty, stress etc, it increases the chances of losing its pregnancy. AND it also happening randomly because, well sometimes it happens. Animals have reproductive issues like we humans do. Some animals can be diagnosed as infertile after a couple of vet checks. Maybe a new function for the vet could be "check fertility"
- Pair compatibility: Sometimes, the male and the female you adopted simply do not like each other and will not breed. You will have to get new ones. Bad luck it happens.
- Make it more realistic: birds and reptiles must lay eggs. Mammals must nurse on their mothers!! Simple. ZT2 had it why not PZ?? It would be really cool if we could get models for "adolescent animals" a stage between infant and adult.
High season and Low season: The number of guests should be lower in some months of the year.
A system of small counter the clock challenges or non refuse challenges as we had in Zoo tycoon would be nice. eg: Adopt this animal that was seized at the airport. other eg. The local government banned circuses, adopt all the animals from the circus, or the local circus got bankrupt. The correct system of challenges/missions are a joke.
Staff management should be harder. I never had staff quitting their job or really being annoyed by anything. Staff should be able to use vehicles, like small jeeps or golf carts. It would make them faster and save energy. We could even build "staff roads" for these vehicles.
Other:
Camels and Bison need to be resized!
Some object hitboxes need to be fixed: notoriously the arches and doors. How many times I have built a large stable or shelter and simply the animals do not enter in there because they have a huge hitbox.
I would love to see animal gates (like in JWE) that you could use to manage your animal among multiple habitats.
I feel that the model and animations of the okapi are somehow not correct. It looks like a too light and gracile animal, like if it was a gazelle or antelope. They can reach over 200kg and they are quite big.
More shops, foods and drinks!
More rides and attractions: eg paddling boats for guests to have fun in the lake.

Agree that Africa should have been an animal pack...could have added Kudu, Caracal, Secretary Bird, Impala, etc.
Also agree the Arctic Fox was weird for NA. Could have gotten Lynx, Wolverine or Opossum.
I do think Aviary is the only logical pack left. I'm thinking Petting Zoo may follow, and then they may do specific regions like India, Greater Asia, Amazon, or biomes like Jungle or Desert.
Petting zoo animals I don't think even break the top 50 on the meta list, so I don't see it happening
@@fatnakedjimmyneutron True, but in the past a Petting Zoo DLC was getting almost as much love as Aviary and Aquatic.
Frontier is not bound by the wishlist.
Also, the wishlist I've seen just has animals...is there a wishlist for DLC?
I would bet Petting Zoo DLC would be top 5.

I think animal packs should’ve had six habitat animals and two exhibits dunno think exhibits are slept on and need a rework in a possible reptile dlc

You said it right. Anyone that is eager to swap animal species for scenery items cleary did not understand the purpose of a zoo game. I would swap animal species for new gameplay mechanics though, the game heavily needs more depth on gameplay. I can't be simply just build, and sitting watch your animals. You need to manage!
I think you didn't go in depth enough into South East Asia. Debatebly the worst Pack simply because most of the animals fall short. Maybe you didn't want to do much criticism which is wierd since this is an overall review. To keep it a little more simple the Malayan Tapir though like you said was a necessity it still doesn't excuse the fact that it is literally a reskin of the Bairds Tapir. Nothing about the Malayan Tapir is correct its color, shape, size everything is wrong about it and should've been addressed considering this is a review. The dhole isn't a very high requested animal and doesn't appear in zoos that often. Also the winter coat which was heavily requested was never given to the animal nobody really wanted. Also it has major facial structure issues still to this date. The Proboscis Monkey is also a strange choice though well designed in game. The animal I believe is only captive in 1 zoo in the world being Singapore. (Could be wrong). A top 10 meta Wishlist animal being the Lar Gibbon wasn't included and is much more popular in zoos worldwide. The Clouded Leopard is good and heavily requested, same with the sun Bear and binturong (after the update to its appearance). Also most of the signs for the animals are very poor except for the Tapir sign which somehow looks better than the animal in game... Also I fundamentally disagree with everything you said about Africa and consider it to be the best pack in the game.
If you were going to pick apart the SEA this heavily, then shouldn't the other packs be under the same scrutiny? Your entire argument is based on what seems like: (1) you didn't enjoy their adaptation, which is fine, it was relatively hit or miss and needed reworks in their adaptation and (2) you didn't agree with the species choices, which is extremely debateable. Dhole as I said, could be swapped out, but Proboscis monkey is iconic despite limited captive representation. Lar gibbon can be there sure, but that's another debate. If Malayan Tapir is reskin, then half the game is a reskin to be honest. And so what happens if I wanted to see these animals? Again this is an opinion. But let's move onto my fundamental stance:
My fundamental position on the SEA and Africa pack is based on value. Why pay same price for Africa pack when you only get 4+1 animals? Sure, highly requested species, but these should've been in the base game. Meerkat and fennec fox especially, no excuses. Now that Africa is done, we're still missing kudu, secretarybird, impala, leopard (literally way more species need to be covered, hence the suggestion for an animal pack) e.t.c. Imagine if the southern white rhino was in base game, black rhino could have been slotted here easily. Can they revisit this continent? Sure, they can, which means they can also revisit SEA and therefore your point (2) is mute. Maybe you believe scenery is worth more than what I valued it, which is opinion-based, and something I said at the end of that section that some will disagree with me on it.
I think that you judged the SEA pack extremely harshly based on Frontier's adaptation of realism. Half the animals in this game can fall under your 'reskin' or 'bad model' arguments. No seriously, if you're gonna pick that apart that heavily, there are huge biological discrepancies. Someone wrote an essay on why the Spotted Hyena is badly designed. But I digress, its a game, biological perfection is not a given, this game has by far has the best animal adaptations of anything on the PC game market. Is there huge competition on this market? Okay no, but take that as you will. This is a gaming channel, not a BBC Earth realism panel. I simply don't have the qualifications or knowledge to bring that sort of discussion. Plenty of other channels do the 'debating realism' thing. I didn't really say anything good about the SEA scenery either so not sure what you are on about there. I wanted more consistency in the art styles.
As with all my reviews on this channel, I make an assessment for the paying customer, on the worth of the game's content and/or their DLCs based on the price and its offerings. A casual player, or most Planet Zoo players to be honest, will not be fussed with that deep of criticism, but looking back on your comment, does indeed have merit, just not applicable to the holistic audience. The entire idea of 8 animal pack DLCs is what I am praising. And the SEA pack is one of my favourite, for that reason, and for the animals chosen. Hope my point has been made clearer.
