You never think about generational differences. At my 70+ age, one of the huge benefits of points is that you can cancel a flight and get the points back, whereas you would have lost the cash. When one is old there is a lot of unpredictable health issues that can interfere with flying. Last year, a close friend had a stroke while I was traveling and I was able to cancel my ongoing flights that were booked with points and go home to help her without losing any money. Also, when one is old, your days are numbered so it is even less useful. to save up points, which can't be bequeathed to anyone else.
Another great video! I do try and get a good value for my points but really I'm in this game to be able to go places and do things that I otherwise would not if I had to pay all cash for the entire trip. Case in point, we are looking at an Alaskan cruise next summer. If I had to pay all cash for every aspect (flights, hotels, cruise, other transportation, etc.) we wouldn't be able to make that trip happen. Having points to take care of the flights and hotels makes it a reality. We will be staying at a Wyndham Resorts property in Colorado this coming Thanksgiving week (5 nights) for only 37,500 Capital One points. The points make a nicer trip possible than what we would have been able to do with just cash.
Thank you! And yes, we feel the same way about using our points to go places & do things that we otherwise couldn’t with cash. Enjoy your Alaskan Cruise & Thanksgiving travels!
I always use points if it is an option. Your argument goes on the assumption that everyone has cash to spend. Points, even if it is not a great redemption, allows my cash to be used for the other parts of travel (food, etc) that can't be covered by points.
One thing I keep in mind when valuing my points is how many dollars it took to earn. For instance, every dollar I spend on the Hilton card gets me a minimum of 3 points, cap 1 is 2, and Amex platinum is 1. Thus, I want to make sure I’m getting a higher value per point on anything I spend my Amex points on.
Legislation that your representatives are working on isn’t above your, mine, or any of our pay grades btw. It’s up to all of us to speak about it, debate, and let our representatives know our opinons.
Curious on your thoughts; Had to book a flight from LAX-ATH for specific dates in Feb. Best redemptions was BA 57,500 Avios PLUS $750 each way. Found a business class flight in Clubworld for $3000 roundtrip. Also used the AARP discount AND the British Airways Chase card BACHASE10 10% discount. Ended up with the flight for $2500 plus the 9X points on Chase card plus the 25000 Avios for the flights... Guessing you'd agree? Thank you for all the educational/helpful videos!
Sorry Brendan Haven’t you got the message that Donald has one the election? Highly likely you have voted for him 😂😂😂 And as sure as hell he will kill this proposal

I feel pretty good now, about my first point redemption! I got a 6.4 cpp on my biz class seat and 2.1 cpp on my hotel! Thanks Mike!
Amazing! Congrats 👏 We love to hear this!
Choice 1:2 & Hyatt are the best hotel redemptions. Choice being the best if you’re going for a high-end brand of theirs.
Totally agree! We have gotten some of our best point redemptions through Hyatt.

Thank you for this. Great reminder to balance the science of point building with the real objective... to live life and make memories.
Absolutely!

Will you be adding Wells Fargo to your transfer partner cheat sheet?
I filled out the form and got a response that basically said it's a different area looking at the credit card fees and not Congress.
Thanks for the info. Lot of good tidbits. But you can research hotels and get outsized value. I frequently get 2cpp for hilton stays
CPP is great, but I also think cost of points is important too.
Thank you! This is so helpful!
So happy to hear this was helpful for you! You are so welcome 🤗
What is the name of your mic setup? It looks nice!
Thanks so much! In the studio we use the Shure SM7b with a cloud lifter. Thanks for watching!
