Cool mod! Love to see the images you create with this setup.
Thank you so much! There's some more coming in a week, but here's two of the sets from recent shoots!

Cool! Thanks.
Love these things! I have some green ones that I use in my Yashica Mat124-G to make comedic sprocket hole panoramic photography youtube short videos.
With my Pentax 6x7, I put an empty 35mm canister with 3D printed extenders on the take up side to wing the exposed film into. That way you don't have to unload the exposed film in a changing bag or darkroom. When you get to the end of the roll you open the back and cut the film with a pair of scissors. Best to use a bulk load canister.
"muh-maya"
"mah-me-ah!"
That hit hard

I take my 120 camera and fill em with 35mm for sprocket hole shots. Please don't call the cops about that joint in my new video, I promise it was all special effects. Subbed!
Great video. Informative, easy to follow, straight to the point.
"now you can't screw this up"
trust me people will find a way lol they always do
Emulsion side towards lens, 6cmx7cm convert to mm cut your own mat or mark your focusing screen down to 24mm x....
Ok Great video for this way of shooting. But the real convenient way is to have two 35mm canisters, one with unexposed film and one empty. I taped the film together before loading it, so I have multiple pairs ready to go. And then use the 3d printed brackets for both ends, so you can take it out once you are done shooting the roll. I use a Rolleiflex 3.5F for this method. And I got about 18 frames clear from each other per roll of 35mm.
how do you taped into the empty 35m cannister ?
Yo. This is pretty awesome.
this sounds really cool! how do you load the film into the empty canister? I've got a Kodak duaflex ii that I've been wanting to use but loading and unloading film seems a bit too tedious right now since there's no film back.
@@spudrina you mean once you're done with shooting the roll?
Reappy need to get hold on those adapters. I love the look it gives you :)
ACID SNOW shoot an email to contact@owlbot.co and we'll make it happen!
Thank you!
Thank you
That’s cool. Would like to have a mask for preview.
Like on the rangefinder?
@@Owlbot Forgot to specify. On the viewfinder on a hasselblad V series.
@@erickpro Oh yeah so basically there's no real way to do that haha. The only true way would be to mask the viewfinder off with tape or whatever as there's not a physical way to see what you're looking at via the mirror. One thing I did to help me visualize was to take an image I already took, and then layed it over an image of my RZ67's viewfinder, and use that center circle to sort of eyeball where everything lies. So in my case, I've learned that the circle represents largely the width of the negative, and the sprockets are a bit above and below that.
Take a permanent pen measure your view finder glass minus 24x??? Mark it and you have crop lines. We did back the. On Hasselblad shooting 645
Is there a way to maximise the shots? 120 cameras wind for a while before the first shot, but the 35mm I'd imagine would be ready after 1 or 2 winds, thanks by the way!
Most people will tape a little paper leader to the front of the roll
Wow!!!👍
I’m trying to find the exact comments but haven’t found it.. WILL this work on Hasselblad 500cm with an A12 back? Because I want to buy one right now 🙌🏽
It should? As long as the spool is the same as a 120 it'll fit!
Thank you for the quick response!!
What is the difference between cropping the 120 film in PS?
It's the same amount of film being exposed per image with the same grain
Nothing I suppose, but obviously it's aesthetically different (I think it looks pretty cool) and in a lotta cases 120 film is more expensive than 35 so it can be more cost effective if that's what you're trying to do. It's mostly just for fun.
Hey quick question. Do you have any idea if there is a 3D printed viewfinder cover thing for the RB/RZ? If not have you thought of doing one?
Cover thing? Like the fold up/down top part?
@@Zenavesta I made one out of black paper
Daniel Fjäll yeah I ended up doing the same, just wanted smt a little more permanent nah mean
Spongebob reference at 1:53 😀
So if I got it right, the price is 15$? Do you also ship to Germany?
They are $15 but shipping to Germany may be prohibitively expensive (like somewhere around $30-45 probably). If that's fine by you, shoot me an email and we'll get it figured out!
You need to clean that pressure plate, it’s filthy.
how many exposures can i get if i using 35mm film in my diana f+ with that adapters?
Not sure, never used it. Someone at /r/sprocketshots probably would have that answer.
Do you ever get focusing issues? Particularly falling short focusing. Since..... no backing paper.
it did happen once but no not really. I honestly think that one time was cuz I had sticky stuff on the back plate haha
@@Owlbot Really? I have constantly had focusing issues on the negatives. Do you shoot stopped down? Oh let’s say around F16-F32 often?
@@PotatoHoly nah usually wide open 😂
Question, how do you unload it though?
Gotta use a changing back or blacked out room, open the back and rewind it in to the canister by hand. Usually I just leave the top adapter in and use that as a winding wheel.
How many times do you advance in between frames?
I’m gonna try this in a Rittreck 6x6.
Just once. You treat it like normal.
@@Owlbotmakes sense, because the exposed length on each negative is the same.
when you say "and you're ready to shoot" around 2:45... at this point I advance the film to get to the `1` in the window, and I just never get there, it winds and winds on until the end.
Any tips for that?
will they work with a yashica 635?
It will work with any camera that takes 120 film spool
It works fine with the Fujifilm GW690 iii?
It should!
Mamá ya 🤣
How many exposures do you get?
Depends on the camera, in my RZ I get 10 or 11. If you give it a paper leader you get one or two more.
will it work with a 220 back?
It will
So our useless 220 backs will finally have use?!?
It’s very interesting but from what I know it’s risky to use 35mm on Pentax 67. The 35mm might get inside shutter for whatever reason and get stuck here . Pretty much risky . You don’t wanna break the shutter
"PaPaYa"
how many shot do i get if i use 35mm/36 to medium format camera?
Totally depends on your camera. My RZ67 gets like 10-12 if I just wind it in there, if I were to do a paper leader I could probably get another one out of it. If you have, like, a square-back type situation you'd likely get a lot more.
im using hass500cm (may be the same 6x6 -12exposures). In this case, how many exposures we can shoot if we shoot with 35mm film?
Every camera seems to be different but you'd probably get more than 12. Maybe 15?
Don't forget the Mamiya RZ/RB backs rotate so you can shoot horizontal. A Blad does not do that so unless you want all uprights, you'll have to figure out how to frame!
can someone explain how come youre not getting the full 36 exposures with it ? From my understanding, your're technically overfilling the 35mm negative? Essentially a 120 film with holes exposed like in this video (ua-cam.com/video/XM20c3x5XO0/v-deo.html ) thumbnail ? I guess its for aestethics and not more exposures...
Because you're shooting the length of roughly 3 photos with each shot. It's not for more shots it's for larger exposures.
@@Owlbot Thanks. I researched more into it, it make more sense now. For more exposures you would need a dedicated 35mm film back.
how do you scan the images to include the sprockets? i have the epson V850 and use Silverfast
You'll need a negative holder that shows them, basically. Theoretically you don't need any holder but I know that won't play for the "focus" of the scanner. Maybe squeeze it between a couple pieces of glass? I've started 3D printing negative holders but they only work for one frame at a time.
Lomo sells a special neg holder.
I shoot on a mamyia 645afd and it automatically winds the film, will it still wind correctly?
dylan Baker I'm not sure but I'm assuming it would wind it "out" of the canister which wouldn't work, as it wants to transfer all the film to your take up spool, right? Theoretically you would want to stop taking pictures before the camera starts that process, take the back off, and wind the film back in to the canister in a changing bag. I'm unfamiliar with that camera so I couldn't tell you definitively.
OWL BOT true, I’ll have to look into a little bit more. Thanks for your insight!
There is an 35mm insert for m645 - I don't know if you can remove mask for sprockets, but either way you'll get nice 2.3:1 aspect ratio
Come much are these. Film Photography Store has them for $20 USD
We sell them for $15
Hi, one question... The end of 35mm is usually stuck to the end of the reel, how do you rewind?
Place it all into a changing bag or pitch black room under some sheets or something and take the film out of the film back/camera and manually rewind it.
@@Owlbot thanks, do you ship to the UK?
@@jameslane3846 I could but it would be pretty expensive. I'd recommend grabbing the STL file from the site and finding a local 3D printer if possible. If not, email contact@owlbot.co and we'll see what we can do.
It’s pronounced “mah-me-yah”
Don't understand how you know how much film to advance so shots wont be exposed on each other
You don't have to think about that, the camera still advances enough film for itself. Changing the height of the negative doesn't affect the distance it travels from spool to spool, right? The mechanism that moves the film through the camera moves the same length of film regardless of what width it is.
@@Owlbot What about a camera like Tower Reflex TLR? Normally you wind the next shot until the next number shows up through the little window on the back. It doesn't move a set distance with on advance, it's all by hand.
@@DanielHalteman oh, hmm... Might have to get a rhythm for something like that!
nice idea but still US only :)
Hey Bruno, if you'd like I can ship a set to you it'll just cost extra dependent on where you live. I'd be happy to send you two sets to make it more worth your money, shoot me an email: Contact(at)owlbot.co
hello, how many frames on mamiya 645 using 35mm?
Couldn't say, I haven't shot with that. Maybe like 12 or so? I get 9-10 on my RZ67.
Sent ya an email!
This is a horrible product. Have to carry a changing bag with Medium Format cameras that dont have film backs
Its not a horrible product- read up on James Fan's comment above to find your solution.
Do you know how much the alternatives are??
A used back and focusing screen to shoot 35mm on a Bronica etrsi costs around $1,000
A used Hasselblad Xpan costs around $3,500
And you're calling something that gives an alternative for a few $ a horrible product???
Yeah… bad take on a cheap solution. You can buy a panoramic camera if you don’t want to do this lol
A year before he made this comment he asked how much the product cost, I wonder what made him change his mind lol
Does this work with a mamiya c33?
As long as it's got a 120 back it should. I think 220 as well but I've never tried it.
Does it work with Mamiya 7?
It should!
