Beautiful performance, thank you and please keep singing
Wonderful!! Thank you!
I was standing by the window
On a cold and cloudy day
When I saw the hearse come rolling
To carry my mother away
Will the circle be unbroken
Bye and bye Lord bye and bye
There’s a better home a waiting
In the sky Lord in the sky
I said to the undertaker
Undertaker please drive slow
For that body you are carrying
Lord I hate to see her go
Well I followed close behind her
Tried to hold up and be brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid her in that grave
I went back home Lord that home was lonesome
Since my mother, she was gone
All my brothers and sisters crying
What a home so sad and alone
Original 1907 version:
There are loved ones in the glory. Whose dear forms you often miss.
When you close your earthly story, Will you join them in their bliss?
(CHORUS: Will the circle be unbroken By and by, by and by?
Is a better home awaiting In the sky, in the sky?)
In the joyous days of childhood Oft they told of wondrous love. Pointed to the dying Saviour; Now they dwell with Him above.
(Chorus)
You remember songs of heaven, Which you sang with childish voice. Do you love the hymns they taught you, Or are songs of earth your choice?
(Chorus)
You can picture happy gath'rings round the fireside long ago, and you think of tearful partings when they left you here below.
(Chorus)
END

A great interpretation of this famous gospel song.
There are many singers when they sang this song with no emotion whatsoever.
Only if you carefully reading the lyrics you will find out this is NOT A HAPPY SONG.

(Chorus). done.
Around the late 20s & early 30s the original version had been slightly reworked and had an extra verse added at the end, to be a more classic gospel hymn. The changes consisted of changing the word "forms" in the first verse to the word "voices", as well as, inserting the word "Lord" between the 2 "by and by" in the choruses. Also, changing The chorus line "is there a better home a-waiting in the sky, in the sky" with "there's a better home a-waiting, in the sky, Lord in the sky". And lastly the addition of a new extra verse at the end followed by an extra chorus, "One by one their seats have emptied, one by one they have went away. Here the circle has been broken, but it will be complete one day.".
Then you have this AP Carter/Carter family version that was reworked from 1935-75 and was tweeked many different times depending on the performance.
I was pleased to read the original as I thought there did not appear much gospel to this song..now I understand !
une version de plus merci
Jullie zouden echt moeten zingen bij "playing for a change"!
Echt prachtig gezongen!
you know there is an easter egg where booker plays the guitar and elizabeth sings. Where you go into the bar after shanty town.
do you know the song:" Will The Circle Be Complete"??
Where can i buy this awesome version ?
Cause the link on you website is dead
But this isn't the traditional version it's The Carter version. There's the traditional version 1907, and then there's a gospel version that changes the meaning from a question to a more traditional hymn. And then there's the Carter version who reworked nearly every verse some of the chorus.
