We love our 2 Petricolas. We have them in a community tank with Panda and Skunk Corys, a pair of Golden Wonder Killis, 6 White Clouds, a Huge Mystery snail and a Rabbit snail. We call them our Sharks with whiskers.
Thank you very helpful! I just got two very small ones a couple weeks ago and I love them very active lil ones but also like to hide a lot they are by far some of my favorite fish
Hi. There are some things wrong in your video. The fish you keep is called Synodontis lucipinnis (former petricola dwarf) and they are not a cookoo catfish, they dont breed that way, they just drop their eggs into the water. The catfish that you mean is the Synodontis multipunctatus, but this is a different fish.
@@gasp5027 you may wanna explore the possibility that you don’t have lucipinis or petricola if you see that breeding behavior. As far as I know, neither fish has ever been observed displaying that breeding behavior, it’s not something they would do sometimes, they do it or don’t. Of course I could be missing a new study that details behavior changes but I’ve never read or experienced anything even close to that behavior in either species. Please upload link to study if you have information I could learn from. I say that sincerely, not as a smart ass.
Can you do more videos on this beautiful catfish. I just got one. Didn’t know I needed a squad of them. Going to do a species only tank for them. Thanks so much for this video. ❤
My local aquatics store sales these for $7 a piece at around a 1/4 inch. They are great fish to watch but can get a tad territorial if they find a nice spot.
They are my favorite cat fish also. They're my favorite clean up crew I've ever had. I've always thought about the spawning part of it. I like your idea I'm going to try it. ★★★★★
I’ve got 2. Looking for 5 more. I’ve got these and 5 anchor cats in a heavy planted tank. My leopard cats are still babies. They will be moved into a 55g.
I have a petricola catfish baby which i have kept in my guppy and shrimp tank, I only have 2 tanks and the other tank has a comet goldfish which I'm afraid will eat my catfish but I'm afraid that the petricola can eat my shrimp, endlers and guppies once it grows bigger. Any suggestions?
Same but mine is super tiny but it's really dark but the fins are same. I wonder if it's a diff type. It stays in a rock crevasse all the time and never comes out
Great vid! If you put petricola with other African Cichlid pairs trying to breed, would the petricola eat all the eggs or would some make it? I'm thinking of African buffalo heads and kribensis who fiercely defend their little territories. Thanks
Oooo I’m not sure. I have three with my group of pseudotropheus saulosi but they are mouth brooders. I have bred hundreds with them all together. Kribs have to defend their eggs so I can not say whether or not a petricola would get past them
Its a carnivore with crazy good smell but needs food that falls to the bottom. Sand is usually better than gravel overal and mine love black sand blasting sand
Hi can you help I've had 5 petricola in my tank for six month and they were fine until 4 days ago. They are very rarely coming out which is unusual, I've only seen one and he is rubbing of objects in the tank. I can't see white spot on him, I put 6 tummy nose tetra in 4 days ago and 4 of them are dead. Could they have a disease that has passed to my petricola. My other fish and shrimp look ok, any help will be appreciated. Thank you
@@FridayFishFacts really congratulations because there was no data on their reproduction in captivity. simply wish you continued continuation of bravo.
You really paint a good picture of the Petricola. Just out of interest. What is the pH of your aquarium? Seeing whether I can keep Syno Petricola or not. Thanks
They are not the cuckoo cat that you claim. That would be the Synodontis multipunctatus. The Petricola is more like an egg scatterer. I have bred them many times.
I have a large piece of 'Malaysian Driftwood' in my 50 gallon tank. Over the 4-5 years that I've owned this particular piece? Holes have been chewed throughout it. Made by various species I've had in the tank over the years. My plecos love chewing on this wood. I suspect its them that may be the culprits? 😁 Or maybe? It's just a natural deviation in the wood? ( I aquascape )....One particular hole on the underside of this wood? It's about 4-5 inches in length and approximately an inch in diameter. This tunnel has a larger hole or cavern at its end. I bought two of these gorgeous fish one day. Not knowing or really caring what sex they were. Brought these lovlies, home. Well? To my surprise!?....One day? I simply had 3!?🤗 I was tickled pink! To say the least. As time went on...my original 2 that I bought? ...Turned into 6! I've been in love with them ever since. I did a major tank overhaul one day. Inspecting the wood while it was in the water. And, out pops 4 wee babies from the wood!? I was so excited to see that! I stuck a pipe cleaner inside one day to measure it and realized? That this is exactly why they've been able to breed. Yay me!!! I lost my original female last year, and 3 of her babies 😮💨 Thought my accidental breeding days were over. About 5 months ago. I was just sitting there, admiring my tank. Out pops a baby!!? Then 6 weeks ago...2 more babies? Whaaaaat? I think they really get a fighting chance because of the unique hole that is in this wood? I am blessed. As it's wonderful to discover that you have new babies and you weren't even trying. I've since given 3 to my friend. Kept 3. I still have the original male and two female babies of his. They're absolutely beautiful. Calm and very inquisitive. So playful. Aside of my two Blood Parrot's? They're by far my favorite fish in my tank. Is it recommended to keep them with Malawi mbuna chiclids?

I agree 😁

Can you keep different synodontis with other synodontis species ?
Yes you can
These are the best catfish atleast for me because they don't get massive and the look cool!

Just seen you keep your tank at 7. Ignore the last question. Sorry.
No worries! I also keep them with African cichlids now and that tank is around 7.8
i use the german breeder ring from swiss tropicals to put the eggs in and i have had geat sucess with it
Hmmm I think I’ll look into it. Might be good for other fish too
Also I got very lucky I was sold my two as bumble bee cats so I got them both for 5 dollars and not the 12 that they were each priced at

How many gallons is the tank in this video?
Connor Rothandler it’s a 220 gallon
Cool in the video weirdly it doesn’t look nearly as big as a 220 gal in person I though it was a 75 gal maybe lol.
What is you favorite odd ball catfish for a 20 gal
They are great in eating all pond snail. I have 3 of them with all my tetras. They usually act8ve at night while in the day they love to hide
