This is possibly the most underrated Iron Maiden album imo. Coming Home, Isle of Avalon, Starblind, and especially The Talisman rank near the top in my song rankings.
isle of avalon is cool , shades of rush midsong
Totally agree!!
The Talisman 👍
.. the Live EnVivo version is even better than the original!
The Talisman and when the wild wind blows are my two favorites.
@@BrotherMan321 Checkout the live version in Sunrise Florida. Blows the album version away. Bruce at his best.
I like this album, This first songs is a real classic old school rocker but they should have split the Satellite 15 and Final Frontier into separate tracks tho.
My favs on this are Eldorado, Coming Home & Starblind. The live recording of this tour “En Vivo” is extremely good and elevates all of the tracks greatly in my opinion.
They could have repeated the chorus twice as much and I wouldn't think it is too repetitive. Super catchy and melodic. It's a blast singing it along live.
They did add one more at the end at the tour...and yes, it was a blast live!!!
Fun fact: Due to the album name and era, some maiden fans thought this would be their last album. Luckily we have 2 more, maybe even another one to come.
I was going to say the same thing. I remember being very worried at the time but, as you said, thankfully we were wrong. Although I’m pretty sure the band had a great laugh about it! 😊
Yeah i think it will be one more and thats it.
Appreciate you doing the full version of this song.
I don't get why this album gets dunked on as much as it does but it is what it is
same
This song is fucking great on the album "En Vivo" (live in Santiago, Chile)
First part was actually another song called stallite 15 and was played as intro music during the world tour
The song after the change was the final frontier. A great song. The album was an immediate number 1 in many charts all around the world and i remember that the world tour made many young fans as usual. The next one is eldorado, the only grammy maiden ever had with and of course they neither gave a shit nor appeared on the show. It s raw and really cool. I love this album and i know many fans admire it. Esp the talisman is fucking amazing. Bruce is on top of his vocals, coming home and when the wild wind blows are epic.
Mr. Adrian Smith play all the instrumentals in this long intro!
En Vivo - the live tour for this album comes right behind Rock in Rio for, such a killer live album and I can't wait for you to watch that concert! The Talisman performance is my favourite Maiden song/performance, absolutely kills
It is not Nicko on the drums on the Satellite 15 intro. It is a drum machine.
Amazing album! Got some all time classics on.
Starblind, Talisman, when the wild wind blows. (Need to watch lyric videos to get the full story of the songs.)
Really like this album, so so underrated
Underrated album.
I enjoy following your Iron maiden journey. Cool to see how after 40 years maiden still connects people from all over the world. Im from Israel🇮🇱 🎸
I'm big Maiden fan since early 90's and imo Starblind is one of the best songs they've ever written.
Agree, I’ve raved enough about it too! 👍🏼
Excellent song, and wait until you watch, En Vivo! Because this song was meant to be played live.
The intro musically is all Adrian Smith’s. He did the drum machine stuff, the guitars, etc. His experimentation on this album is very enjoyable to me.
I personally don’t mind the intro to this album. But I do think it is unnecessary! I can see where many dismiss it! Or don’t like it. Or skip it.
The Final Frontier is a nice rocking tune!
This album is an interesting mixed bag. I for sure like it more than albums 8 - 11…
I wish this album and Book of Souls had swapped a few tunes. Speed of Light would obviously fit better on this album. Book of Souls could benefit from some of the Earthy sounding tracks found on this album.
Great reaction :). This album has a very refreshing sound. It has lots of ups and lots of downs, overall a fun ride though. Take note, the song the Alchemist sounds like a powerslave B side song(that's a compliment).
As others have commented, this album is full of smash hits. Talisman, Man Who Would be King, Isle of Avalon, Coming Home... I love every song on the album. For me, this is one of the best albums the band has released.
Cant believe how far youve come Herm! Almost there man, What a journey!.... This opener has a similar vibe to the new album 'Senjutsu' more of a battle cry/ weirdly instramental piece rather than a song.
The official video will explain the song.
Awesome video! Love watching it.
When I heard the programmed intro, I was a bit worried that Iron Maiden were going down the road that Megadeth went on their 1999 album 'Risk' (which had quite a bit of electronics)... But then 'The final frontier' kicked in... and that was relief - the Maiden sound was intact. The went back to their high-end production sound on this record... Apparently, they went back to a studio in Nassau, Bahamas, where their 80's records were done (as well as AC/DC's 'Back in black').
Melvyn Grant was the artist who did the cover - he did 'Fear of the dark' and 'Virtual XI' covers.
One thing you MUST do in this album...REACT TO THE TALISMAN WITH LYRICS!!!! Lyrics brother, whole experience, extremely hard song to sing, and its best Iron Maiden story ever. (Psst, live version is better, but do that when you will do En Vivo Live album reation like Rock in Rio) !!!!! #hurm1t #uptheirons
Hurm, I never want you to be prejudiced going into anything, so have an open mind. There are some really good songs on this album, even if it doesn't compare to AMOLAD (which is a rare start-to-finish immaculate album). This is a different sort of album, so enjoy! Glad to listen through it again in its entirety with you.
This is my favorite “reunion-era” album. Lots of good ideas in this one. I love Isle of Avalon, Starblind, and especially El Dorado.
El Dorado next, baby!!!!
I’m sure the intro was a demo from Adrian Smith. Loved this album when it came out and still do 💥
These should be seperate tracks. Thats the only thing that kinda puts me off having this song in a playlist as you have to get through the first 5 minutes before getting to The Final Frontier which I think is a pretty decent track
This is a great opener .......and live. That's what it was written for so the intro is meant to be longer. Awesome song.
My favorite album after Bruce and Adrian's return. You Should react to the Flight 666 Live Show
Nice that you review the all song classic album saw them 5 times on this tour from Newcastle to London only because Bruce said it maybe the Final Tour which it wasn’t 😜🎸🎸
The intro is meh but the opening power chords are great and Nicko, holy crap he liked it. The song itself is well… groovy. It’s got swing and the solos are good.
I have fond memories of this album as me and my dad went to see maiden in Sheffield UK in 2011 when this album came out. Sadly my dad died of cancer 3 years ago but he loved seeing maiden live with me that year. I wish I could go back in time and relive it with my dad sadly I can't but great memories. the all of the album is really great not one of there best but it is really good
One of the best Maiden albums. I have it ranked 5th place or so.
You must burn in hell for saying that.
This album is probably the least great of their career but it has some cool and catchy tunes in it !!!!!
Mostly agree with your reaction. The cyber-intro bass was the best part of the song.
When you review the live album of this tour the walk on Eddie is brilliant
The Album is solid, what comes from this World Tour in the form of "En Vivo" is what really matters, one of their Greatest Live Shows...., The Intro for that Show(DVD) is probably the Most Unique in the History of Any Kind of Music..., then El Dorado, The Talisman ( Bruce's Greatest Vocal Performance, probably ever...) .., When The Wild Wind Blows..., all songs made to be played Live....
I think for this track you have to imagine the live performance in which the Satellite 15 builds tension for the band to really cut in on the change up, at least that’s what I imagine was the purpose. It’s the same idea here on the album but I think live with the lights and fog is where it would work the best.
It did, man...that was my favorite Maiden concert, along with the Somewhere Back In Time (1st leg)
This album has some the most prog maiden songs (like isle of avalon and starblind) atleast in the 2000s and is somewhat overlooked when talking about maiden catalogue. It has good songs (even some great ones) and some different sounds. I liked it more when it came out but now im a little colder towards it..i still think its a good album tho'.
You wont believe the controversy over this Eddie. Fans claimed it did not look enough like him and that it is some alternate universe Eddie from another world. But I always likes it! 🤘
The giant Eddie, coming from behind the drums at the concert, was the coolest from all the times I watched them live
PLEASE watch the lyrics!!
Some great parts to this album some not so great
Suggest you watch the review of the animated story When the wind blows here ua-cam.com/video/eUkz_dRIfeU/v-deo.html before you do the last track (When the wild wind blows) which is based off the story.
Yes that makes the song more special
Oh Yes yes yes yes yes yes.....YES....!!!
I guess they were going with a Space Invaders intro with this one. I heard this one once and never went back. The drumming by Nicko was the best thing. Song only got going at 7:01 min. A weak start to an album. Onto El Dorado, a much better song, IMO
The talisman is my personal fav on this one and star blind comes second
Talisman one of the best song voyages ever! Feels like you're on the seas with them!
@@egrsok9388 yes it is.
Also love seas of madness such an underrated song.
Agree
I like the way this album opens up. It's repetitive, but unique, unconventional and atmospheric. Check out the video for sure.. you will dig it!
Interestingly quirky intro with Satellite 15 but the main song is pretty ordinary I reckon. Sounds like it was written for radio. By the way, I understand some debate whether that’s really Eddie in the front cover or some other Alien. I think it is even if he looks quite different. Either way, awesome picture!
Herm I've watched you since your 1st maiden video. I love the fact you do the album then watch the live versions. Don't skip the death on the road concert. It has wildest dreams, rain maker, no more lies, dance of death, pashendale and journeyman. All amazing. You won't regret,
peace
Pretty much every album intro is the start of a concert and this track is no exception. It works live. On the album though? This track should have been split on the album, right where the change up occurs, so the listener has the choice of selecting either 'Satellite 15' OR 'The Final Frontier' to play individually. I find this Maiden's most commercial sounding album. It does have some good tracks on it though. It also did well in many local music charts, including those here in Australia. I think they got pipped at the post for the number 1 spot by Eminem. 🙄
This probably my least favourite track of all Maiden tracks honestly. It's too repetitive all over and nothing happens really. The only thing I like about this track is Adrian's solo.
I don't listen a lot to this album. It has some great songs so I don't know why. The intro was written as far I know by Smith. A demo tape. So Nicko isn't drumming there.
I'm so glad you did the full song man! This album gets a lot of negativity for no reason at all. It is experimental for Iron Maiden, and I understand that that's a bit different for people, but I find it nothing short of incredible. The Final Frontier is just an absolute belter of an opener. I definitely see Satellite 15 as an intro to the album, but completely get it. As far as I'm aware, you're the first person to react to this on UA-cam! And it's not the last song on this album. There's plenty of songs on here that haven't seen the reaction side of UA-cam yet, and I'm so stoked that you're gonna be the first! Keep it up Hurm, and prepare yourself for this one!
after the album don’t forget to do Final frontier official video plus all the song Live from En Vivo!
Get ready for the next one, specially because of the gallop. It’s the sequence of the first song, it would be better start on the last 5 seconds of the first song to enjoy the sequence (if possible in your player).
I've said before that the run of albums since the reunion haven't really interested me but watching the band perform the songs live is great. Having said that, I really like the latest album Senjutsu.
I got my ticket to see them next June in Dublin where the set list will be mostly comprised of songs from Senjutsu and Somewhere in Time, which is my favourite album from Maiden and they are notorious for not playing many songs from that album live . It's gonna be an epic show.
- Talks shit about it- ... , 'bUt', - says something nice-
He should be a diplomat 🙂
I gave this album another good listen myself seems it was your next one and I’ve never been too kind about it in the past. This time I concentrated more on the lyrics too and can say it’s gone further up in my estimation big time.
Two of my favorite Maiden solos on this song, mostly Adrian's one
A song firmly deserving to be outside the Maiden top 100 list
Finally!!!!
For me this is a perfect Maiden album start to finish. This song is a perfect opener for the album and for their live shows as well. That is why "En Vivo" is for me the best Live Maiden DVD ever.
Enjoy the ride mate.
satellite15.. is best part on CD, true shit(and sadly album not continue in that way), next: final frontier 200x, too soft song , weak riff, standard solos, next songs have great moments, but in global long songs have all same structures, same solos especially from Dave and Janick..
The beginning is awful and far too long. Then it’s really brilliant when the song kicks in. Worked well on the the tour though.
I like the intro to a point but its just too long, If only it was a couple minutes shorter instead of 7 minutes intro would be alright.
@@animoley8012
The intro (Satellite 15) is 4mins 35secs not 7 minutes. However I do agree, drop a couple of minutes and it would be perfect imo.
Although it seems like a ok album to me, I feel that its sound and execution are not as tight or refined as it could have been.
The Somewhere Back In Time World Tour 2008/09 was as big or bigger than the World Slavery Tour of 84/85 and I feel like it affected Bruce's voice. In this album his voice feels tired and diphonic, despite the great melodies he played.
Perhaps they should have waited another year, let Bruce rest a little longer and work longer on the songs, since it is clear that they lacked work. Many very interesting ideas but the lack of cohesion between many of them is palpable with the simple listening.
I must say that the Blu-Ray Live! of 2011 is a great concert and I recommend it!
World Slavery Tour, 187 shows (9th August 1984 - 5th July 1985), is definitely bigger than Somewhere Back In Time Tour, 90 shows (1st February to 19th August 2008 and 10th February to 2nd April 2009). There is even a 5 month gap in the middle of the the SBIT tour whereas they only got a couple of of weeks of during the World Slavery Tour, so your argument doesn't stack up.
@@stevored1989 According to the two neurons you have, the sound and execution of this album is not irregular just because they had a few months off on the SBITWT tour 2008/09 compared to WET 84/85. You really are an idiot, because the stupidity you argued has nothing to do with what I am justifying. Ignorant.
@@evil_chuck clearly I struck a nerve pointing out you factually incorrect statement regarding the size of the WST and the SBIT and the effect or not as maybe on Bruce's voice. As that was the foundation of your argument in regards to you not liking the sound of The Final Frontier, then your argument is like the Leaning tower of Pisa and is on very shaky ground. Now you could have come back at me with reasons to back up your argument but you resorted to personal insults which usually means the poster knows they have lost the argument but doesn't want to admit it.
Worst album in maiden history? This song is the perfect example of its quality. Only solos can be taken into consideration.
I can only understand you like it if you discovered Maiden with it.
I just don't like this one. Wins the worst opener and the worst title track awards though.
Some incredible songs in this album
I believe you'll not enjoy this album
If he enjoyed For the Greater Good of God and The Legacy i feel he will enjoy it 8)
@@steve_harris_bass I hope I'm wrong, I myself like it a lot
Only very good song is When Wild Wind Blows... 🤔
Every single album after Seventh Son is either utter shite or extremely average, boring and predictable with a few songs that are good. I am a huge Maiden fan, have been for 35 years but it is sad that they can't get anywhere near the likes of Peace of Mind, Powerslave or Somewhere in Time.
Your opinion doesn't count, because you spelt Peace wrong :)
@@jonathanatkinson5256 wow, your hilarious mate😂😂😂
@@jonathanatkinson5256 You got that right!!!
please skip this album
It is a brilliant album.
N O
If I listened to the Blaze era I certainly can make it through this album lol
Why???
Please skip the book of souls album
The cover art is even more generic than the record!
Please Herm1t, listen to this album following the lyrics! I think it changes the perspective of how you listen to and interpret music. I think it adds a lot when listening to a song, especially by Maiden. And especially THIS album! There's so much good music in it! I simply love it!
