- The concluding session of Day 2 of the India Today Conclave South 2018 saw actresses Gautami, Khushbu Sundar, Taapsee Pannu and Kajal Aggarwal speaking about their experience of being a woman in public life. Titled Women In Public Life: The Personal Is Political, the session moderated by Rajdeep Sardesai saw the four actresses shared anecdotes from their personal and professional life.
The 2nd Edition of India Today Conclave South 2018 in Hyderabad, brings together reputed Chief Ministers, political leaders, movie stars, business tycoons, artists, thought leaders and news-makers from the south under one platform to discuss, debate and decipher the roadmap of the six southern states.

But she says in the same clause " a body worth wearing a bikini". Isn't that a self contradictory statement? As far as i'm informed, isn't 'bikini worthy' also an imposed societal standard? That's more like selective acceptance of standards, rather than pushing against the whole lot for a worthy cause.

What I would have appreciated is if the women who stood up in the Malayalam movie industry be brought into this panel. There is where i saw an actual coming together of women against patriarchy.

On colleges imposing dress code on women, it is also true that similar rules were imposed on men as well. Men aren’t allowed to wear shorts or even stuff like torn jeans etc to colleges. Maybe the rules are harsher for women but we should be able to draw a line. And that line would never be static, it’s ever evolving. It’s easy for someone to make sweeping statements like I’ll do whatever the hell I want to do and mind your business, but that’ll be anarchy. Moral policing has and will always be there. The debate should be who should be doing such policing and how do we determine what those morals are. If you just say everybody should do whatever the hell they want to do, then the logical follow up would everyone would be entitled to believe in whatever values they believe in. It’s only such unruly attitude as displayed by the likes of khusboo and kajal, which is also shared by the moral policemen they’re referring to, that is resulting in attacks on freedom in the first place.
Free will is the basic prerequisite for crime in the society. We need to have written down rules. Who makes them? We have to decide for ourselves. There are 100s of men and junior artists and models and fashion designers who are subjected to this AND they are looking for such platforms to voice what happened to them but you paid media do not give them, opportunity to voice their trauma. But if they do so, you Sardesai will loose your friendship and interviews from the bigshots of the industry, so why will you?
Casting couch exisits, its no shocker for anyone, so Sardesai stop pretending as if you dont know. The only way to forward such debates is to tell names and detail incidents from real victims, so that the industry thinks twice before indulging in this and most importantly, 1000s of aspiring artists become aware of such people and traps.
