    A bit of an essay but this is what I’ve found. Signing bonus money is only spread over the course of the contract while they are on the team that gave them that contract. If they are traded or released, their current years signing bonus still counts against that years cap hit, and all remaining signing bonus money has to count on the next seasons cap. This is true in real life, so Madden has it right in that regard. I think of as a way of balancing the books on a player that has already received his bonus money but is no longer employed by that team. Back in Madden 20 I found a way to manipulate the cap charge for a player with multiple year’s remaining that you want to move on from in the offseason. By releasing a player before free agency in the resign players stage it treats it as the year just completed isn’t over yet,and all the cap hit counts against the following season. This is good for when you can afford to clear the charge in one year or if you need money for free agency. By waiting until after the draft/the start of the preseason to release or trade the player only one year of signing bonus counts against the cap and it pushes the rest of the cap hit back a year allowing you to spread it out a little further.

    Man this is a great video. I was searching for this exact explanation. Currently looking to get rid of a players contract with 2 years remaining. But I was worried it would count as a cap hit next season for that last year. This answered that. Thank you. Wish they would show the cap hits from previous players like 2K does.

    What I like to do, and hear me out on this. I will trade a rookie who is on multi year deal, for example DJ Turner (speedy corner from the Bengals), and then cut him. I then resign him to a one year deal and offer him a 7 year contract whenever he is eligible for the contract extension. I do that because if you intend to keep the player long term, this is where you can save some money. I know it may be off putting to some, but it's a way to save some money in the long run. Overall love the videos/tips.

    I found out that if you divide watts bonus by 5 years itll give you 9 mill roughly. And then take his 2023 salary of 29 mill and subtract the two youre left with 20 mill. Which is what the bears will be paying him in 2023. Awesome video btw, really helped out

      I offered brock purdy a new contract but the yearly breakdown of the contract changed after he signed. His cap hit for 2025 was supposed to be 43 mill but when i went into his player profile it changed to 54 mill. Any idea why anyone?

    I know completely off topic but I started to dominate with upgrading players in particular udfa and wanted to let y'all in on the sauce. If I need a HB for example I'll go through udfa I'll look at xp needed to gain points I've found 64 overall 21 year olds that only need 1200 to upgrade 1 attribute. I've taken them and got them to 73 in first year. But I play udfa in a realistic way if you make my team if you're on the 53 man and not the practice squad I automatically go in edit your contract to a 3 year deal. Which I also do for all CPU teams it ends up being about 50 players on the high end at 2.5 million over 3 years. NFL udfa contracts on average are 2.4 million over 3 years but I just go 2.5 for everyone with no signing bonus to make it quick work

    • @JacobReid
      @JacobReid  5 місяців тому +1

      Check to see if you have any older players or overpaid players that will save you money by trading them away. That is the first step to open up cap space for re-signing. Second, prioritize the most important players and get their contracts done. See where that leaves you afterwards. If they’re not a superstar, they’re most likely replaceable. If some of them are just too expensive to re-sign, deal them away for other assets. In Madden 24 it’s just about managing your cap. There’s no great way to sign guys for cheap

  • @knighthawk34ps3

    1:49 where your wrong is you don’t save 20M by cutting watt. This is what comfuses people. You take a 28M penalty that you don’t mention. That’s an 8M loss on the cap for the season if you cut TJ watt. That’s how the cap works, you can’t just look at the savings and neglect the penalty. That’s why when you showed his new contract we saw about 9M dropped per season.

    • @tdrivers1102
      @tdrivers1102 10 місяців тому +2

      You do save 20 million this year if you cut Watt. The savings number subtracts the penalty already, so you’d save 20m more than the penalty subtracts this season

  • @DrRobGilles

    Really good information but i can tell you from personal experience that it doesn’t lead to you having a ton of fun if you exploit this.
    Trading for good players on long contracts makes franchise mode too easy and it ruins the challenge. In the back of your mind you know it’s not very realistic that a team is gonna eat 75 mil or more trading their best player.
    IMO the more realistic and fun way to do it is to just pay your best players when they come up and trade away luxury players on the last year of their contract. Maybe franchise tag them one year.
    Get some draft picks and rebuild. If you trade a guy on their last year you’ll take a cap penalty but you’ll also be getting money that Carries over if you’re under the cap. So it’s basically a wash.
    With restructured contracts there’s no reason why you should be cheesing contracts this year.

    • @JacobReid
      @JacobReid  Рік тому +4

      When you’re in a 32-man league there is no cheesing the AI. Yet you still get endless numbers of players who have no clue how to keep their cap in good shape. There’s a massive section of the madden community who are uneducated on any of this
