Sue Smith and Stephen Warnock discuss Manchester United's rollercoaster win on penalties against Coventry in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.
Manchester United blew a 3-0 lead and needed a last-gasp winner from Championship side Coventry to be overturned but scraped into the FA Cup final with a 4-2 penalty shootout victory, where they will once again meet Manchester City.

An achievement, achieved in an embarrassing manner.
😂 The comment I came here for.
Basically this 😂
It's a big achievement for such a weak club
@@vincentvries9854hahahaha you still crying today about man united? Bro woke up with united on his mind hahahahaha love it
@@Johndoe-gf7eu Bro it don't matter if I am crying but winning over teams like Coventry is a huge thing for u these days, we used to rest our star players against teams like Coventry in the cup games and still spank them good...sigh, now u say I'm crying for saying the obvious.
5 managers (not including caretakers) have coached Man United since Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. This club sacks their manager every 2 seasons on the average. Always blaming the manager, never blames the players.
This manager specifically needs to be blamed for what is happening. Mourinho was held accountable for losing to Liverpool and he was fired for losing to Liverpool...meanwhile, ETH gets a pass for Brentford playing them off the park, Coventry coming back from 3 nil down and totally dominate them in extra time. These a smaller weaker teams that he should be beating fairly easily.
@@vincentvries9854 Yes, but the coach is a symptom (not the cause). Every successful coach at top clubs thrives because the management runs optimally (as a business and as a football club) leading to better squad recruitment. The manager is the roof, the players are the blocks, while management is the foundation.
@@fourguyses Bro he got most of the transfers he wanted, Antony is not performing. He got the striker. Martinez is always out injured. Malacia is not good and he is also always out injured. Amrabat. Varane. He can't even get Donny that he once was coaching at Ajax to perform here at United...some of the excuses u make for this guy are just a load of turd. He wanted those players, they are not club signings, they are his signings so the recruitment excuse does not apply for him.
@@vincentvries9854 Agreed, but that's not all that is required. They still have to play with all sorts of players bought under different manager's philosophy. Still, more transfer is required for squad depth while also draining the swamp (very key). Fan had agreed that the club needs up to 4 seasons to see results comparative to past glory, why the hurry after 2 seasons?
@@fourguyses because u are backing the wrong horse here, isn't it obvious. Plus it's the wrong time to suddenly be backing managers to stay longer time looking for stability and comfortability at United, the damage he will be doing would be catastrophic in the end. The new manager will have to come in clear out his Dutch league recruits, a whole new rebuild job.
You had better managers before ETH that needed backing but u guys weren't interested in long term commitment then so look for a better manager now, why commit to ETH?
For 70 mins it was an achievement and a very professional performance, led by the likes of Mainoo and Garnacho. When he subbed them off to save them for Wednesdays match you could see the difference they make to this team and the so called experienced internationals that were on the pitch and that came on to see the game out at 3-0 let themselves and everyone else down.
Absolutely correct
Absolutely, and I would like to add, that even if he wanted to change things, someone please look at the bench and tell me how could he have done anything different, who could he have brought on to make a difference.
It wasn't! Did you actually watch the match not just look at the highlights or the score? Even with Garnacho and Mainoo one we were still poor! Like we've been the whole season, from Wolves till today 8months later I can't remember a single good performance we've had, we always play in moments.
@@bigmitchtv3922 yeh I watched us for 70 mins completely dominate and Coventry hardly got out of their own half in that time. If you saw something else you seriously need your eyes checking.
@@bigmitchtv3922 Does it mean y'all don't think about the injury problem Ten Hag has faced with his players this season? Why y'all like this? What do y'all want Ten Hag to do with the type of players he's got now? He needs to offload all the players. Casemiro, Eriksen, Evans, Lindelof, Martial, Rashford, Mctominay, Sancho, Varane, Harry Maguire, they all need to go after this season
All media talking about it being an embarrassment, they should give Coventry City the credit they deserve, they had spirit and FIGHT and fought and battled, this was Roy of the rovers stuff 😊
And thats the true beauty of this competition....That's why I still love it.
It's embarrassing to let a 3 nil lead slip that's what is embarrassing
Every team seems to show spirit and fight when it comes to United. 😂
still embarassing from united.
It's not an embarrassment, the teams who should be embarrassed are premier league teams because they didn't reach semifinals whilst a championship team (Coventry city) reached semifinals.
Embarrassing, Coventry should be in the final.
The media downplaying Coventry because it’s Manchester United 😂. You have people assuming Coventry got to the semifinals by magic. Coventry are a decent team. It’s not an embarrassment.
Look what they did to Wolves, but its just that you expect Manchester United to go through without breaking a sweat. Look at it this way, if City played Coventry with 2 goalkeepers playing CB Coventry will still get destroyed. If Vincent Kompany came out of retirement to play CB City would still win easy.
They winning the championship ?
It's a embarrassing to let a 3 Nil lead slip and only var save them
@@paulstones1451 Manu have had their fair share of ill luck they had a little reprieve. The Loserpool match that pk there was no contact. If it wasn't given that's 3pts. It changes momentum & pts amassed on the table. Chelsea match too another despicable officiating
@kayodeogidan what are you talking about man u we're saved by var and were embarrassing
It's good that Newcastle made it to the UCL and FA Cup semifinals with all their injuries whilst being in the top four in the league. Great answer Steve, I mean, even Liverpool did it last season. Really great insights.
I don't think it's the Manager's fault. The Players were shambolic. The Players SHOULD and MUST take responsibility.
Who picks them and who bought the shxt on the bench like Antony
Ole did better with the same players
And mourinho had the worst set of players but did better
I'm so sick of this player nonsense he keeps picking them Rashford played the full game
I think the reality here is that the players have lost faith in the manager and clearly arnt playing for him. You can blame the manager yes, you can blame the Glazers and everyone at the top but the end of the day those players are playing the game. Players not running, staying on the floor and then calling their performance as professional is a disgrace but it’s up to the players to have the will and desire to win
@@JasonReaMagicso they lost faith since the first game against wolves?you can’t be serious
@@JasonReaMagic So they played for the manager the last round but not this one? Nonsense
@@chrisbal4882 totally agree and this is a case again where the players have decided they don’t want ETH. Just like they did with Moyes. Before he even set foot in the club the players didn’t want him! This is what happens when the players think they are bigger than the club and hence why SAF always moved any player who thought he was out of the club
These are highly motivated and experienced players. You cannot take out Kobbie and Garnacho out of a game then all of a sudden, the rest of the Tesm struggles.
There's no hunger and commitment. The Players should be ashamed of themselves.
We've got some good heads in there. Scotty, Bruno, Maguire, Rasmus, and Garnacho. That's the spine of the team that we need to keep and bring in players to play around them. If we can do that, I guarantee we will get back to being a top four side.
Everything is in place with the new ownership, so we just have to do it now.
Im a united fan and I ain't embarrassed. He simply needs better players. He's a manager that's got the balls to take chances.
He's not fit to manage in the Premier League. He has good players but they were gassed after 75 minutes. Thats poor managing. He stands there and looks lost when he should be organizing. That's poor management. To make it, yes it's good but when your players lay down and don't even celebrate, that is based on the lack of management. It's time for him to go.
We've been scamming results all season, I genuinely don't know if we're just really resilient or someone has done black magic to make sure we don't get relegated because we've been dominated by every single team
I think there are quite a few clubs who would like to be embarrassed and be in the FA cup final, don't forget Coventry knocked out a very good Wolves side with a late comeback
The embarrassment is not because it's Coventry, they are a decent side. The embarrassmenr is the style of play, the substitutions and tactics but most importantly, throwing away a 3-0 lead in a semi final at wembley. This is their only chance of silverware this season and they put in a performance like that.
Coventry deserve full credit for not giving up because they saw united's weaknesses and exposed them.
Mate,
What does the coach have to do ? What would you have done differently ? If you sub off two teenagers for two nationals and put on such a performance... what was he supposed to do when the ball deflects to goal? What was he supposed to do when Wan Bissaka accidentally conceded a handball.
You just like pilling up on the agenda to come off as if you're football smart or knowledgeable.
@@NhlakaniphoWisey there was no urgency in the play, no overlapps from fullbacks, no runs down the line from wingers, no movement to create space. Subbed his attacking treat off, subbed off his creativity, they are either being coached like this or they are being overtrained. It has been happening all season and there seems to be no action for change.
@LewisLawlor bro we had 3-0 lead we should be able to rest our best players at that point
@@de9884 in a semi final where Coventry were getting back into the game and looked more of a threat, you don't let off the gas. It is not a winning mentality if you think what you did in the first 45mins is enough. What you do in 45mins, they can do in 45mins.
I guess Pep will throw in the U12s to go and raise their FA cup and rest the 1st team and squad players for truly important things
if you don't think the FA Cup is important, the hardest domestic cup on the planet - then you are plastic
Pep finally promoted his second youth player since 2016
Rest for what? Title would be done and dusted by then.. Champions League is already done.. Rest for Euros?
Rest them what for😂 A yeaah the 115 is truly a heavy burden for them to be carrying it. They need rest
That's how you sniff out plastics no knowledge of the game@@rahulkadam3602
Sue Smith and Stephen Warnock, come on sky give us some decent pundits who have won things during their career
Do these two ever disagree on something with something insightful said?
Looking at all those who call this FA cup semifinals an embarrassment for Manchester United should ask themselves, how did Coventry get to that stage of the competition if they were no good? Manchester United should be congratulated for making it to the finals no matter…
This guy is clueless, liverpool when they won the champions league was after years and years of klopp getting rid of dead wood and getting in players, and they dont have anywhere near the same amount of injuries as manchester united.
Right, what a stupid comment that was by him😂😂. ETH beat a juventus, bayern en real madrid side and he is known to be a football freak. I dont understand how this guy is considered an ‘expert’
I don't see how people are saying that United were performing so bad. They had loads of chances in the extra time. There was plenty of chances to take them more than 3 goals ahead, but there's a trend through several years with these players where we see them get nervous and make mistakes instead. It's a cultural thing that Ineos needs to work on. Some people are putting it all on Ten Hag that they collapsed, but the way I see it is that the players makes mistakes that deviates from the game plan. Looking at the fact that there's only Dalot in that back four who's played more than 2/3 of the games this season I think they've been playing as expected. Seeing Casemiro in the CB role I realized he was alot more proactive than other CB's we've had. The squad isn't balanced enough to compete let alone with all these injuries they've had.
united should give this win back to Coventry cant believe they were celebrating after
what do you mean give the win back, when did they win the game? they never even led in the game and you just want to hand them a final? come on.
We all wasn't felt like a loss
They she celebrate, but at what point are you arguing that they did celebrate?
Didn’t you see the subdue celebrations by the players at the end?!? Mate, the amount of times teams have been at the end of a wrong result….its just a game
Only Hojlund celebrated
95% of their wins all season have been a pure fluke and embarrassing, how their not 15th place in the league is astonishing!
I'd say their -1 GD is more puzzling
Like klopp at his start
You lot need to concentrate on ya own team 😂
@@Calrobbo333 my team is doing better than that wreck of a club 🤣 don’t cry mate😂
If Coventry's disallowed goal had counted, ETH would've got the sack, he's living on borrowed time, Sir Jim Ratcliffe's face in the stand said it all.
Pep couldn’t get a tune out of this team
And if var had done it's job properly it doesn't even go past 90 mins.... Was never a pen. Coventry got back into the game through huge luck, even their second was a huge deflection that could literally have gone anyway.
The most embarrassing win anybody has ever had in the fa cup semi
Ten Hag doesn’t keep changing his philosophy, perhaps these “experts” ought to inform themselves before spouting their nonsense.
At a detriment to the club.
In football today you need to be flexible to accommodate different styles and plans to approach different games. Being hard-headed and refusing to adapt in the heat of a match shows weakness and they are undeserving of their place in the FA Cup final.
Coventry were robbed of a magical day at Wembley, end of story.
they are talking about Wolves and look at their style of play, Coventry knocked them out what rubbish punditry
Getting to the final is definitely an achievement. 99% of teams didn't. Yesterday was an embarrasment though...Some players showed they don't have the level to play for Man Utd
Literally a quote from Stephen Warnock last season when speaking about Liverpool "It's hard for them this season, you can see they're struggling with injuries. There's no way this Liverpool team would be finishing the season 5th if they didn't have the injuries they've had to deal with, people have tried to turn this around onto Klopp, but any manager would struggle when they've got none of their first choice defenders"
Yeah. They obviously dislike ten hag. It sucks how much hate he's getting.
well I take your point re warnock m8 I think he did say that however when liverpool finished fifth last season which was an awful season for us btw how many points did m utd finish ahead of us last season three four🤔 m utd are about ten points behind the likes of villa and spurs this season never mind the top three🤣 my point is ten hag got too much credit for last season imo but this season m utd are bang average and they were never better than liverpool last season really because they finished three four points above us it was a false narrative🤔
@@simonoliver8576 liverpool fans can never have an objective take on united. why are you here? your club could end up fighting for relegation next season. Over here so concerned about stuff that doesn't concern you
I’ll save you some time was an embarrassment
Yet United have the Final place. Cry more. 😂
They won though? Even with all the centre backs injured, deflected goal and dubious penalty, they are still in the final aren't they?
@@1977Suspiria 🤣🤣🤣 who crying it was embarrassing 🤣🤣🤣 all Utd did was hold out to loose against city 🤣🤣
@@hyywe240 maybe shouldn’t have bothered 🤣🤣 city just going to smash you in the final 🤣🤣
@@averagename9978 I won't be playing in the final unfortunately mate. I don't support man united either. Coventry got very lucky to get it to extra time but man united won. They are in the fa cup final, again. Its hardly embarrassing it it? You just want to hate on man united
Yet, injuries were said to be the reason that Arsenal didnt win the league last year
When I said "putting my Liverpool hat on" I turned off lol
Difference is noone else gets the same level of scrutiny that Manchester United get! End of.
Sky sports , ESPN FC, ESPN UK. All have the same agenda.. Getting really old now 😴😴
Utd is a Championship level side. There is no agenda.
It’s an achievement for them getting to the Final but an embarrassment on how they got there 😅
Manchester United currently has the problem that self-confidence is lacking. The team is currently crumbling with every goal against them, as the result has been turned around in the last second several times now. This is not due to the trainer, but rather to the mental strength of the team. In my opinion, Ten Hag is the best coaching option, we urgently need a good transfer summer. 2 CBs, 1 LB, and 1 CDM. The gap between midfield and back four is due to the lack of trust in the speed of the CBs. The current players are obviously not suited to play the ETH system.
Look at the games, when shaw and martinez are fit! Completely different!
The worst thing is that they won a final with City
You definitely has your Liverpool hat on, that Liverpool team you mentioned played together over 75% of the the time that season
A win is a win, United Fans keep your chain up. Don't fall for FAKE media shaming. Football is a game of skill and LUCK.
It’s not an achievement it’s the same mistakes Onana needs to take a break and let our Turkish no.2 takes the goalkeeper
Give Coventry some credit. Don't underestimate them. They were a full team of 11 who came to Wembley to compete. This English Media's knack to have Ten Hag fired is ludicrous. This Ten Hag team, does not have defenders, FULL STOP. Absolutely no pace. Get rid of the deadwood and give EtH players who can play to his strengths
It was an embarassment for players like Rashford and Antony. No one else!
The problem we have is that we’ve had so many managers now where the same thing happens.
A good first year then a poor second year which is followed by the sacking of the manager.
The one constant seems to be the players and you could argue up until recently the chief exec
"embarrassment" does Coventry a real disservice
People speak without respecting that Coventry has demonstrated their resilience by reaching the semi-finals. Yet, their emphasis on why Man Utd allowed their comeback show a complete lack of respect! This assumption that Coventry can't stage a comeback from three goals down. It's truly disrespectful!
Barely anybody will remember the manner of victory, what will be remembered is that eth reached two fa cup finals in two years
You need to think the difference in levels in the bench of each team
We definitely need a forward like watkins in the team, Hojlund need to be develop, he hobbles in the box with the ball when he rarely gets it, which is also unfortunate.
Why are people saying United have injuries when all other teams have the same issues? Just accept the fact that United simply aren't good enough and were lucky against Coventry.
But we still got to the final.... your team what have you guys achieved this season nothing
This style of play bs is just tiring, it's clear most of these players can't play high press possession based football and yet u go on and on about style of play, these pundits and the media never wanted Ten Hag in the first place, they just couldn't say about it last season but now they can go on and on trying to sack the manager
Media and players wanted their pet like Poch or a politician like Southgate. True fans wanted ETH because of what he had done at a historically academy dependent like Ajax and Ajax and Man Utd have a lot in common. Of course why let context get in the way of BS!!
He wore a suit against Coventry. Why did you show a different photo of him, Sky?
Truth be told,it was very embarrassing to be out played like that in the last 20 minutes.
A clear embarrassment.
What is Gary Neville saying about Man united performance yesterday as he can talk about Chelsea
It's a huge achievement to scrape past Coventry💀
MUFC winning on Pens against a Championship side this days is a huge achievement according to some bald dude,Get him sacked and away from the city of Manchester ASAP
Mate, 3rd final in 2 season….back to back FA Cup finals….with a crappy squad that has had a makeshift back 4 all season….and you say sack him?! He’s pulled off results despite this….beating Liverpool to get here….but nooooo that’s not what the footballing media want to focus on is it!?!
you are plastic - he's the best starting manager EVER for United, that includes Ferguson
@@martinp5184 ahhahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Van Gaal brought in a pattern of play but still the journalists did not like it😅😅... Mourinho also had his tactics and was branded negative😅😅...
I know this example isn't really a good one as it's based on a league 2 team but last year at certain points in the season Northampton town had more than 13 players out injured including 4 centre backs but they still managed to get results and promotion at the end of the season. Man utd with all there financial advantages cannot use injuries as an excuse in my opinion
The football world has deteriorated to focus on the top 6 teams. The whole idea of these cup competitions is to give all the teams a chance to achieve something. Coventry achieved a heck of a comeback, produced a terrific game. And the fall out is to fire Man U manager. Success to the future of the football pyramid!
Not a united fan, but feel like this is getting blown out of proportion, if they didn't make the final then there'd be something to talk about.
Can't see them beating City, but if they did this will all be forgotten 😂
10 mill payroll vs 208 mill payroll.
this guy is crazy how are 65 injuries in one season not a factor
Queit easy. It's an achievement to reach the final. It's an embarrassment to give 3 goals away to coventry.
If he thinks this is an achievement. He’s unaware of standards and expectations that make Man U a big club
An embarrassing achievement. The lack of celebration said it all
Ten Hag saying he's been able to choose his best team just once due to injuries isn't a terrible excuse. Stop using Liverpool as a yard stick for Manchester united. Kloop has spent years at Liverpool. The first team and second team at Liverpool are exactly what kloop wants. You can't say that for ETH. Stop your biase agenda against Ten Hag. Talk about the substitutions he made in the game, talk about international players eg Rashford not playing well but don't compare United as a team with Liverpool. It's totally different. This is ETH second year. Kloop has spent yearsssssss
It’s a bit of both. To make any final is an achievement, but the way it happened was clumsy at the very best.
Not once or twice Wigan eliminated Man City in FA. A simple mistake is likely to cost a team. Man UTD players must mature.
It’s the players and the club culture, not the manager. Hasn’t the past 10-12 yrs proved this?
i undertstand coventry came back by 3 goals but utd still got to the final people angry like this didnt happen lol
It's both. It's an achievement to be 3-0 up against Coventry and then lose if the VAR were competent
We in the final..where is Newcastle that u talking about..
Game changed when he took Mainoo and Garnacho off, midfield became limp
Very vulnerable team
Easy to sit on sky sports and run your mouth every Monday morning 😂would love to see these people manage at the highest level
You should also remember it's not only united they win against other epl team
Sure, they can beat and tussle with some clubs on the right side of the premier league. United tho, UNITED. They should roll team like Coventry 4/5-0. It is a EMBARRESEMENT for ETH and United. The stature and fans, 1 united player wages is as much as the entire Coventry squad. No, them beating Wolves should not equal them beating United. Absolute DISGRACE. Coventry should have won the game, it was no offside. SHAME UNITED.
Why embarrassed? We're shite and everyone knows it.
Yeah yeah yeah... In the end, United has no issue to score goals and that's a big step from my point of view.
The thing is that they can't switch yet to a setup where they "unplay". I think ETG should improve this aspect of his philosophy. He wants to always play 100% good football.
The reality is that in the Premier League, you can't maintain this during all games. At some point, you have to kill the game, not by scoring, but by unplaying.
We saw in recent games that they are trying to do it. Onana is trying to waste time, the team is trying to pass the ball around without looking for a ball forward, just to make the opposition run.
It's pretty the contrary of the positive football ETG pushed since he's at United, but yeah, at some point, this team needs to play "negative" football when necessary.
Currently, they don't know how to handle these moments. And it's probably because the play maker and captain is Bruno Fernandes. It's difficult to imagine B. Fernandes not looking for the good quick pass forward. He's been working on this, and improved this aspect of his game (wasting time) but it's the whole team who needs to learn how to switch.
YOU KNOW WHATS EMBARRASSING? VAR AND PGMOL
They collapsed and u have to wonder where are the leaders in that united squad ,,,I still trust the manager but he needs to sell some players in that squad ASAP
Can for once te media starts showing how the players are to blame??!!
Any objective observer may see that several of the players who have fired a handful of managers are the lowest common denominators. ETH, like so many others before him, wants his severance pay. Call it self-sabotage, but nobody in his situation would resign. The fact he's exposing Rashford and co. as frauds for the world to see, is a sight to behold.
If ETH listened to the fans, saw the reaction of the players at the final of the pens it's evident we all feel embarrassed. I'm ashamed of this team, absolute shight. Bruno, Cas, Rashford, Anthony, Arron can all go for cut prices.
They let their foot off the gas which was an embarrassment for Coventry, then united got punished for it and united couldn't get back on top again.
Coventry deserved that win more than united.
Obviously ETH has no direction & identity...as a man utd fan, watching man utd playing under the management of ETH, arguably this is the worst man utd in terms of playing style since post sir Alex era....its such a shame to watch this present man utd team
8:29 _"That collapse was nothing to do with Ten Hag"_ *Really?*
If that's the case would it also be fair to say that Coventry turning the game around after switching formation was nothing to do with Mark Robins?
Nothing to stop Ten Hag responding, but he didn't.
respond with what - the 5 academy kids on the bench ? for them to potentially face the pressure of a semi final penalty for Man U against a championship side?
you have no clue about what you are talking about, do you
Basically that 3-0 should have been defended by 9 men but was not!! He takes on 2 teenagers and puts on 2 expereinced players and we concede. Yeah ETH is at fault for many things and he should grow a pair and sack bruno and rashford but how can he be at fault AWB's horrendous defence yesterday. He was so bad. Rashford was even worse. What can ETH do?
That Liverpool team was built gradually though by Klopp who took what 5 years to win the championship league? I might be wrong but point is it takes time back the manager
I agree that some players are to blame for poor performance but those players do not pick themselves and Ten Hag ingame management is atrocious, subbing the best players on the pitch to leave underperforming players on is baffling, then he said it was a good performance and not an embarrassment, what is he smoking?
I think Coventry is not getting enough credit
Ten hag is an embarrassment. Before the game started me and my mates were saying coventry have a chance against man utd, Says it all.
This is why ten haag should not be Man Utd manager
Both!
Coventry were the rightful winners to move to the finals. They were the justified team rather than the woeful Man Utd outfit. Agreed with the socmed to label them as a Championship team, utter disgrace.
You Need To Talk About Wrong VAR DECISIONS !!!
How did the give a peno in that game and not for Chelsea it makes no sense
It was less of a embarrassment than the VAR between everton and nottingham forest especially with one of the VAR people being a luton fan and rigged it in favpur of luton
They did qualify. It will be an embarrassment if they didn’t win
I’m sure Spurs, Newcastle, Villa and many others would like to be as embarrassed?
Stupid headline. Got to the final… in a season filled with injuries and other issues. Third final in two years.
There were no defenders or midfielders on the bench. How can you blame that?
Never an offside
That team he put out was full of internationals.
It is an undisputed achievement
yes, by Coventry, they outplayed United and should have won... Unlucky
The players should take the blame this time
But you forget how many years it took Klop to put up this style of play
