@NadineLuvs It's not that female characters are worse by default but they are so poorly written so often. They don't necessarily have to be realistic people but it seems that there isn't really any variety on female protagonists' personalities. "Be 'better than Tolkien'" as a demand to place on your devs in order for them to make something in that "setting"/genre is...something else. It's been over half a century and no one's actually *done* that yet--not a high standard, that's just impossible.
Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson for me but its my opinion. Lotr is still extremely high up there but fantasy is doing incredible since the last ten years.
Camurgladius not to mention that Tolkien had time and took his time when writing his stories! He would never accept that team taking so much time just creating lore.
@@MetalCharlo I can see why, but I don't think they've done something as enormous as setting the standard and creating the blueprints for the entire fantasy genre. I realize Jason Schreier isn't loved by everyone, but the man is on a tear lately. James Cameron likes women so much that he replaced the male lead in the Terminator franchise with a woman. But the more that comes out, the more it seems that er, barely functional people are getting placed into powerful positions, for some reason. The sad part is this happens in hundreds of corporations and because ubisoft and certain companies are more popular than others, they get exposed in public. Other corporation will continue to abuse employees until they quit and nothing will change cus they dont get expose.
@Roger Dodger Activision lost half their workforce and they didn't even care, is not about the "ultimate consecuences", is about the real concern of the people behind the high commands of a company, and it seems at least in Ubisoft some bosses still care of the reputation of the company
@Roger Dodger Thank you! People are afraid to say it but half the fault lies with employees. If you chose to work for corrupt company that is known for its corrupt practices, you only have yourself to blame WAnt to work for BLizzard or EA? Dont bitch and complain when they abuse you. Thats like touching a knowingly hot stove and getting pissed off at the stove for being on when you chose to touch it of your own free will
@Roger Dodger That's because the U.S failed to further regulate corporations. Corporations moving out would have happened regardless with unions or not. If blaming unions is what you'll do then gtfo and go back to blowing boots
@Jordan Ghill if we want change in the industry, this type of information needs to be spread, even if most of it is negative. Have a little empathy, it is sad that in this day in age some workers (around a lot of industries, not only gaming) are still being treated like slaves. This needs to stop.
@Jordan Ghill Surely you haven't seen him going back to show updates to situations with positive resolutions, like with that game that got review bombed by a single person, or anything with CD Projekt Red (making Cyberpunk 2077) who have actually been acting generally good, and receive positive news from Yongyea as well. There isn't a lot positive in the industry, so of course most the news is going to be negative, but there are bits here and there that are better recieved, and he will bring it up as it comes. Actual news stations are pretty similar- don't watch local news in Chicago, it is actually a daily deathcount of who got shot in southside, interuppted by the occasional "lost puppy found" and the weather. Because guess what? A lot of people get shot in Chicago. You can accuse them of being dishonest for showing a lot of negative news, but if he just focuses on the positive, that doesn't help Yongyea's credibility at all, especially in this shitstorm of an industry.

Pretty much the entire world is run by manbabies. I wouldn’t be surprised if manbabies infected the business world in addition to worldwide politics. Sadly, it seems like intelligent, responsible adults who continue to find new ways to mature are at a huge disadvantage in 2020...
The fact that the majority of the HR department threatened to resign en-masse and destroy the company's ability to 'protect' itself from allegations of abuse if they were not explicitly given blanket immunity from any investigation or consequences is the strongest proof I can think of that they had been utterly compromised. If I'm running or consulting for a firm and their HR team tries to pull that stunt as abuse allegations emerge, I'm firing every single one of them that day and bringing in independent consultants to scour the books for outright corrupt or criminal conduct.
Samus Aran doesn't sell as much as Mario, Zelda or Pokemon. Her last major game was Metroid Other M, which didn't sell enough so she got demoted to secondary character in a Metroid 3DS game, where the main character is a no name space marine. That's gotta burn.
Tomb Raider was the first game that came to mind because there are several games and movies that span over 20+ years. I knew there were other good examples that I hadn’t thought of.
Its circular logic all of the games they sale are men lead so they they start believing only men sale pretty stupid and ignorant because your main character can be X and still sell if the game is well written and well made

I really hope everyone who was victimized sue the hell out of Ubi and get all they can take from them. No one deserves or should have to go through anything like this. Gonna think twice about any Ubi game going forward
My brother is so suckered by Ubisoft's worn-out open-world swill that he actually downplays their horrible history as a company whenever I bring it up.
Ubisoft is known to focus on quantity rather than quality, that's why their games are repetitive, they're lazy and greedy, they don't appreciate their games, they downgrade graphics and change the story

They had no intention on releasing that game. Bet on it, cancelling the game was a way to punish the employees (wasting their time) and players (less entertainment options) for the backlash to force a connection in shills' minds: "abuse gets reported" = "games get cancelled", so when this happens again all the people who blindly support Ubisoft will say "You hate games and don't care about the developers and all the hard work they put in!".
Seems like there should be some safeguard to make sure the company isn't wasting time and money on stuff that never had a chance. When it's a game that the people in charge of approving games state they will not stand for, it shouldn't get past maybe some initial designs and proposals before whoops, surprise surprise, it was a waste of resources.
Given that just about every single of their games in the last half decade or more have been soulless as all hell, i'm not exactly surprised shit is bad over there... EDIT: To be clear, Im not saying that things are suddenly gonna become like the good old days, but at the very least things might have a chance to get better.
@@UniverseGd Far Cry is honestly one of the best examples of their biggest issues. Farcry 4 was basically just Farcry 3 set in a different setting, (even down to pretty much indentical gun models, etc) Fary Cry 5 was a game without really much more than the most basic recreation of the same old Far Cry 3 stuff, it looked new, sounded new, and tasted new, but you knew it was just FC3 with a new icing. And then FC:New Dawn comes out and its just FC5 with pointless RPG mechanics which don't accomplish anything of value. Just about every game Ubi has released in a while has basically just been visuals and graphics, while all the gameplay is is just a bunch of ticked boxes with no substance. Its like they forgot that having content is a little less important than having INTERESTING content.
As someone with an extensive history of being abused (I don’t think I’m special it happens to millions), The very fact that UA-cam is censoring conversation around abuse seems to come across as almost endorsing the shroud and taboo that goes hand-in-hand with being a victim of all types of physical and emotional or sexual abuse.
Exactly this. The people who talk about abuse the most are those of us looking for a way out, and looking to protect others. Where abuse teaches us to shut up and take it, we find our voice by calling it out and declaring that it’s _wrong._ And UA-cam wants us to be silent again.
@Stefan van der Sandt That's what they've been doing all this time though. Now that the 'dirt' has become public, they don't have a choice but to do something about it. "We're sorry", is just a quick, generic response from these scumbags. Their next moves will determine where they really stand.

Ubisucks has been corrupt for at least a decade. Them blaming "Sound Drivers" for the "stuck machine gun sound bug" in RB6:LV2 multiplayer instead of actually fixing the problem, no map editor, unethical MTX, etc. shows that they don't respect your time or money.
This is a good first step. Now all these people need to be put behind bars for their actions and not allowed to get away with just a gracefully resign. They need to be brought to justice.
Just make Michel Ancel the CEO of Ubisoft.😍 Where is Beyond Good and Evil 2!!!???!?!?!!!😭 Akso make a video about how Tanabe and shigeru Grinch miyamoto are implementing ridiculous rules to NOT include characters like Daisy in adventure games and rpgs.😠
Good video. Thanks. I will add that giving one man so much power is also creating enviourment that abuse of that power is prevalent. So giving do much creative control to one person enabled a lot of the harassment and abuse that person comitted. In that sense Ubisoft is responsible for hurting their own employees.
Holy shit thanks for that video. Really eye-opening to see that a giant such as Ubi has such internal problems. I love games but sadly work in a different boring sector not really liking my job (just the paycheck) but its heartbreaking to see ppl involved in what I would guess DREAMJOBS having such problems on a daily basis. Also poor management reflects on the games we receive as end-customers. Fascinating topic - keep topics like these coming, really interesting!
The saddest thing about this not only in Ubisoft, but in every company (not just in gaming industry) that this things have happened multiple times and have been going on for years and years, but no one is taking responsibility, everyone acts like a stupid idiot who doesn't give f about anything and anyone till it escalates on company level and just like that everybody gets surprised and doesn't understand what's going on
So free speech is no longer a thing on youtube. I think it's about time we start looking to other platforms for our daily videos. Hope spotify make a move and start taking a peace of the market from google. Yong you should upload to BitChute also.
Well damn. But I'm still not sold on going back to Ubisoft games after this. Like this was a massive fuckup on a scale not seen before in Game Development and this response is it?
You’re talking like this only happens to Ubisoft. I’m sure many other places has this kind of shit but you’ll never know until someone expose it. What I’m trying to say is that this doesn’t make their games bad. But it does make their workplaces less welcome. I’m still buying their games if it’s good. Let’s be real, this is not gonna affect the customers in anyway. Well, maybe a little but if you’re one of those people who wants to work with Ubisoft. Well, this is your primary concern. This issue is the least customer’s problem.
Yes. Swearing or saying anything that advertisers might consider controversial in the first minute will greatly decrease or outright disable monetization on the entire video.

Goes to show these AAA game studios dont care about their employees at all. These people had to go outside the company and threaten the company's image with the general public in order for change to happen.
Seriously the gaming industry needs a royal commission (or every other country's equivalent)to look into this stuff, they just seem to be getting more and more corrupt and going on without anyone pulling them into line
The worst part about all of this is that nothing will happen to Hascoet. No comeuppance, no repercussions, no punishment. The injustice of it all makes my blood boil
The fact they listened to the external firm that led the investigation, their wording, and their recent *actions* are rather real indicators that they are walking the talk! We can't expect a perfect and totally clean future, as some issues are systemic in society and most companies, but they are giving real signs of acting seriously. // You are quite right though that they did this after years of complaints and after their reputation and $tocks were hit.

The fact that the majority of the HR department threatened to resign en-masse and destroy the company's ability to 'protect' itself from allegations of abuse if they were not explicitly given blanket immunity from any investigation or consequences is the strongest proof I can think of that they had been utterly compromised.

I've stopped caring about their games since Far Cry 3.
@@UniverseGd Far Cry is honestly one of the best examples of their biggest issues.
