I'm lazy. I trimmed my one brown fig way back, then just stuck the trimmings in mason jars in our well water and set them on my kitchen window sill. They grew roots and are now in their 2nd year in 5 gallon pails of dirt. I did the same thing with a 1970s heirloom quince tree and have a bunch ready to plant! I switch the water out weekly or sometimes monthly in the jars. Great lazy person's method!

Thanks for the tips, Fig Boss! I took your advice the other day and pinched my trees. Really excited for figs this season!

I did this with my grandparents' fig tree that's 60+ yrs old. By clearing out all of the growth that was trying to take over, I accidently pulled a 3inch tall sucker. I just barely kept the roots wet until hours later when I eventually put it in potting mix. 8 or 9 months later it's 2 1/2ft tall with 2 other suckers, dormant (atm), & it still made 2 figs last year. Not sure of the variety but it's a tough one for sure.

During the growing season. Pull them during dormancy.

Hey Ross my dog recently chewed the head of my black Madeira to the bases will it produce suckers to save its self of is it going to die...what can I do

First step some type of punishment for the dog.
If the tree is strong enough it should comeback, but if it's a rooted cutting/ very young tree you could be in trouble.

It should if it's well rooted. Make sure the soil is 80F. That's all you can do.

90 of the suckers I have tried root I’ve ripped off the roots. I always think I got and then their gone. But they have all rooted anyway.

Thanks for all the info. I have a question for you ross. I bought my first apricot tree this year and when i received the tree it already had some new leaves growing, its been about 2 weeks now and they are still wilted and look like they are going to die. Should i prune them off to make way for new growth or would that be a bad idea. Im in connecticut zone 6.

New wilted dying leaves doesn't sound good. Maybe the tree is dying? I really don't know what you should do without more details and seeing the tree.
