Honestly, even as someone whose favorite genre is beat'em-ups, Double Dragon Gaiden mogs all the recent big name titles. If you want one that's close to it in quality, you'd need to dig deeper for, say, Fight'n Rage or Dawn Of The Monsters. I hope they ride the momentum and make more down the line. Also, Marian is broken, her range game is nuts (and she's cute on top of it)
*Great* review! You gotta play better with Jimmy, try this: after the 3rd hit the enemy will be knocked into the air... now you do up/down+special (most satisfying special move to pull off, you'll be doing it a lot!). Jimmy is my main character.
For someone who grew up a HUGE fan of beat em ups, I really like this game... the developers did a great job with everything adding bits and elements of the majority of the classic Double Dragon games sequels, That Said, I still give the edge to TMNT Shredder's Revenge... In my opinion, that game has NO holes.
I wasn’t feeling the tiny Chibi sprites. I would’ve preferred larger sprites like Shredders Revenge which hood that “arcade” aesthetic that DDG is lacking. Even River City Girls had larger sprites! This game gives me that cheap 90’s PC MS-DOS graphically. I’ll get this but when it’s on sale. There’s that Double Dragon Collection coming, I’ll get that for my DD fix
1000% agree with your statements. They keep pushing chibi art harder on classic best em ups; and expect real fans to buy it pit of desperation? Yeah; maybe 5 years ago before SOR4 hit the scene, but not in the middle of true beat em up revivals.

I think he Is the perfect character in DD Gaiden right now:He's fast,his specials flow very well with each other,his running attack Is super useful and allows you to play safe.His only downside may be the not so High health,but It doesn't matter much when you're nearly untouchable
Double Dragon was gritty Mad Max mixed with Bruce Lee vibe, Fist of the North Star maybe. Gaidens graphics style does not give me the Double Dragon vibe, still looks like a good game.
The graphics are definitely the biggest sticking point for most folks, and it's understandable. The dystopian future that the game is supposed to be doesn't really come through with the chibi style.

She’s my favorite!! She’s not about hands good to cover distance
I always enjoyed her feeling of safety whenever i used her.

Can definitely get the offputting nature of the look. It does have the chibi feel.
Still. It plays well and does do a lot of the mechanics right!

Yeah I'm not a fan of the chibi look as well but the game is still enjoyable.

It sounds like you're trying to compare Double Dragon Gaiden to ((Streets of Rage)) not Tmnt Shredders Revenge
