For someone to create a character, and for it to evolve so much over so many decades now, I can’t think of another character that’s managed to span the length of time from On The Hour right through to the incredible autobiographies and audiobooks, and here we are in 2021 and still it all fits together. Genius writing, refreshed by the Gibbons Brothers so perfectly. Even The Trip ties in with the stage of where his character is. Living legend
I say it nearly every time I see an Alan video on UA-cam: he is the embodiment of a perfect comedic creation. Recently I read a description of him as a caricature. I can think of no other comedic creation as layered, deep, pathetic, bathetic...he's perfect.
We went down to Norfolk with football once and shouted Aha continuously at the home fans-they though it was brilliant, like they’d never heard it before.
I wonder if in the best chapter of his book he talks about how he gorged on Toblerone and then drove to Dundee in his bare feet, then bought a pair of shoes to watch Shrek, as you can't go and see Shrek in your bare feet
Would have been funnier if Alan had have mouthed the words to the rhyme silently along with the recording,,as if he was reliving it. Strange for Steve Coogan to have missed this.

That goes all the way back to the original radio 4 series. It's crazy how many great comedy shows originally started on Radio 4, e.g. Partridge, Mighty Boosh, Little Britain, and I think The Day Today, Jam and The League of Gentlemen, etc.
