Japanese market manipulators just thought Pokemon no longer worth it, probably due to them being heavily printed. Now they are in full throttle to manipulate One Piece markets which have much less printings. They just got the new golden goose, so they dropped the old bird.
its like a repeating cycle, similar thing happened a few years ago with dragon ball cards. All it takes is for pokemon to release some crazy set and the vultures will come back in no time
What about English though? Would you say that the English market just follows the Japanese market often times? Because English one piece is also ridiculous and English Pokémon has also seemed to have fallen off to a degree as of lately.
@@katielowen it's pretty and blue and shiny cardboard :3 It's a collectors item! It doesn't have to be from valuable materials, it just has to mean something to someone so that there's a demand for it.
im spending more money now on japanese pokemon then before, because of the fallen prices. time to pick the cards that went crazy, and now has come down
It depends on the set. What characters are in it, and whether or not it’s printed a lot. Blue sky stream and eevee heroes were very underprinted in japan & they still hold much more value than the English counterparts. The SV era hasn’t had wild sets like that yet. Once they make Pokémon of all the SV Pokémon, I feel the next year will have a lot of fan favorite Pokémon in sets & I’m sure the Japanese versions of those sets will be very popular in Japanese over English, because a lot of people like to collect Japanese versions of art they like since the texture is good in Japan
Man thanks for this comprehensive explanation of the Japanese market. It’s so hard to find people who are talking about it. What is your take on the Pokémon classic collection in Japanese?
On the One Piece stuff, or Lorcana for that matter, it's gonna be even more short-lasting since they are both fanbases without any real experience with TCGs, it is incredibly risky to buy these things now, they will most likely crash harder than anything else ever.
Yep, it'll be a similar thing. Might not be as crushing since OP is indeed a big IP but the current prices are definetively crazy and in full speculation, I would not risk anything regarding them.@@poke_luie4115
In Tokyo the other day a card shop was trying to sell a full art trainer for 350,000 yen but will never shift for that raw. I noticed a fair amount of card shops had the big cards in not moving when I'm actually there in person on the ground, Lillie etc.
Honestly much of the market still seems red hot to me, just depends on which cards you're looking at. Middle era (like BW) and vintage is going ham right now.
Seems like you're only covering modern here. The downtrend is no real surprise to me honestly. Modern has been overvalued all around for a long time now. Vintage Japanese has been holding fine, and is still in the undervalued range compared to the insanity that goes on in modern.
Interesting times for me to decide to move to only japanese collecting hahaha. Card prices are lower, I'm happy it means I can pick up what I want at reasonable prices 😍
I thought this was happening because I heard the Japanese market is having a small crash. And one piece is made by Bandai if I’m not wrong and they are known for dropping trading cards in 5 years or less. Look at dragon ball super. They are already making dragon ball fusion tcg
It's just a post-bubble world: prices will never go back to "what they used to be", like, a PSA Lugia Crystal for 100 bucks, but a big % of the exponential price growth we've seen in the latest years, being obviously unsustainable, will crash. First will be the "trash", the contemporary releases, which have been sold at about 2-3x MSRP for something like 3-4 years. This is already happening and contemporary boxes are back at MSRP. Even bigger cards are going down, like the Lugia Alternate and similar stuff. Heck, even Eevee Heroes boxes are popping back up on Mercari etc. This of course HAS to happen since Japanese products were never really scarce, the idea that scarcity exists for contemporary products is naif, only a few were actually not enough to meet demand, mostly Eevee Heroes. So if you stacked on those boxes it's time so sell, same for the singles, they will also crash greatly. We'll see the shrink in prices for actual important vintage stuff too but it will be slower.
Funny enough you should do a vid on Japanese cards as I have just listed some on the bay haha. What do you class as a grail card from Japanese eras, black & white? Jungle, fossil, ruby, dragon select? I've just listed a full set of Dragon select 1st edition but I don't see them and never have seen them as Grail cards there are no cards in my opinion as grail cards outside tournament and rare promo cards because set cards are mass produced and hoarded away so a set card is as rare as its available until the price rises and then it becomes cheap and available, championship cards will never be available under any circumstance due to how many were printed and that goes for full complete sets because people throw away the common cards so the chase card becomes the feature but its hard to put the set together with just chase cards 😊 Stevirobbo

@11:00 what the hell are you talking about? PF/STEX is a killer special set. It's leagues above all other previous shiny sets. Hidden fates is solid as well, but even comparing the baby shinies from hidden fates to the baby shinies from PF/STEX the HF stuff isnt close to as nice as the PF stuff art wise. Now playability i kinda agree that it's a less than playable set. that iono is about the only one that really has playable value.
In this year while prices are slightly lower, im planning to pick up all the japanese 151 sar psa 10's just for my personal collection. Personally believe the sars are in such a good deal right now and am glad that their not as expensive as the alt arts were when the alt arts were released.
Thanks for this update Julian. As a casual I fell off the a while back because of the prices. Now I have hope to finish off a couple of sets, mainly a collector of the art. Appreciate you.

how does the seller profit more from the tiktok discount? doesn't tiktok just pay the 30 dollars that the seller didnt pay in that scenario? and they still get 90 for their box?
tiktok seller doesn’t profit more, they earn the same. buyer saves, seller earns the same, tiktok “loses” the saving cost. so the seller earns the same no matter what. good catch, that explanation at 7:39 is wrong, i have no idea why i worded it that way, sorry!!
Yeah certainly still beneficial for the seller either way though! The Buyee coupons were similar at the end of last year, which was great for JP singles
People are getting overwhelmed and tired of spending money just to get certain cards. Plus with inflation and dudes marrying and having kids, I'm seeing alot of people sell their cards to pay their debts and some chick and kids. I'm glad I'm able to swoop in and afford the cards I finally want.
Do you think master balls are worth collecting or just a waste of time? Just finished 151 except for the mb and now i’m debating if i should master them or not
If I had the means, I’d go for it. But it’s a difficult and expensive task. I think they’re cool and we both know how hard they are to complete just by pulling them haha. Just be prepared to pay up. With the reprint now, it’s probably a good time
"the good times are over". nah jluv, now is the good time. i can buy 2 boxes now for what it cost me to buy 1 box before. ARs are beautiful and affordable. grails are not as expensive as they were before but many are still around that $50, $100, etc range.
For One Piece TCG, recently released (2 days ago) expansion OP07 people can't get enough of it. In Japan you can only get it through lottery system. In most local shops you'll only get 5 boosters per person max (which is 1/5 of booster box) and maybe some mystery packs. So your argument about diminishing interest in all trading card games is completely missed. The reason why Japanese and English Pokemon cards are where they are now is because recent products sucks ass. Shiny Treasures ex is literally the worst holiday set ever made. It's disappointing on so many levels. For newer sets like Cyber Judge and Wild Force the reason for lack of interest is that they're focusing too much on DLC monsters which barely anyone cares about. People care about nostalgia Pokemon and characters which reflects on prices. Like it or not, good art won't make people go buy certain card instantly. Second reason why japanese and english cards are being cheaper and cheaper is because they're overprinted. And another reason is because people are disappointed with Pokemon games recently, especially with massive success of Palworld. Scarlet/Violet and its DLC is a massive letdown and from technical standpoint they're embarrassment.
Great video. Online platforms making accessibility better for Jpn cards, One Piece actually having a successful-playable game.
