Before laying the first layer of bricks clean the entire floor. Stack the bricks properly instead of throwing them on slab. 2) In case of clay bricks, bricks should be soaked in water before start of work . 3) Check the mix proportion of mortar. 3) Lay the first layer of bricks considering the diagonals and dimensions of the room. 4) Check the level and right angles at the corner for the first layer. For external walls, check the plumb from external side of the beam. For internal walls check the plumb from the beam edge depending on which side the wall is flushing the beam. 5) Provide door openings at the first level and window openings at sill level as per working drawings. 6) Check customer changes if any in brickwork. 7) Brickwork should not be done more than 4ft in a day. 8) All the joints should be uniform and not exceeding 10 to 12mm. 9) Over burnt/under burnt clay bricks should not be used. 10) All the vertical and horizontal joints should be properly filled and racked. 11) If readymade door frames are to be fixed along with brickwork, they should be checked for plumb and level and should be properly fixed with holdfasts in concreting . 12) R.C.C bands with nominal steel shall be provided at 5 ft height for 4” brickwork. And also for 6” brickwork if it is exceeding 10ft height. 13) Gap between top layer of brickwork and beam bottom shall be filled with ¾” metal with mortar. 14) The brickwork surface should be cleaned with jute bag at the end of day work. 15) All the layers should be laid in line and plumb. Level of the brickwork should be checked after each 5 to 6 layers and should be adjusted in mortar if required. 16) Curing should be done for 7 to 10 days. 17) Thin mortar should be applied to the column where the brickwork would be touching the column. 18) If adjacent walls are not to be raised simultaneously, then pin bricks should be left every alternate layers as to have bonding/interlocking between the walls. structural system in which the bricks are placed in a systematic manner and the joints are filled by the mortar to form a solid structure is termed as Brick masonry. It is generally used in walls and buildings. These Brick Masonry structures are used as both load bearing and non-load bearing walls.The brick masonry a key component in the construction of Houses, Buildings and compound walls. It is very important to construct Brick Masonry in a quality manner to ensure the loads bearing capacity, durability and stability. The quality of Brick Masonry can be ensured by proper workmanship and good inspection. In order to attain a good workmanship in Brick Masonry, the Site Engineer or Supervisor must observe the following aspects during the construction of Brick Masonry. Soaking of the Bricks Maintain the wet surface area of the brickwork Proper Horizontal first bed course Proper Mortar mix proportions Proper Lap and Vertical Joints Sprit level and Plumb-bob checking’s Raking Joints of the Brick Masonry Curing of the Brick masonrySoaking of the Bricks:Soaking of bricks was a very important activity and contributes to strength of the Brick Masonry. When Bricks are soaked into the clean water, it gets saturated, and the air particles, dust & dirt are removed. When we use these soaked Bricks it will not absorb the water from Mortar and enough strength from Mortar is obtained. Generally, the soaking period of the bricks is 12 hours.However, in modern-day constructions and big building constructions, the soaking huge amount of Bricks was not possible. In this case, water was sprayed over the Bricks and it shall be done for the period of 5 to 8 hours.Moreover, if the brick is neither soaked or water sprayed before placing of the Bricks in Brick Masonry, it leads to absorption of the water from Mortar and the Mortar will not have enough water to complete hydration. This prevents the Mortar to obtain its full strength.

What’s the point of raking and point?
Any tips of 2 wall thickness brick?
What should be the result for the last test where you inserted the nail in the joints? How to check that?

Sir, is there a necessity to check the horizontal level of each layers of the brick with dori or spirit level?
My Mistiri was making some of the layers 5 to 10 degree from horizontal base and I couldn’t give him the reason not to do it except it being non-aesthetic which could easily be covered up by plaster.
