Set one year after the first, The Houses October Built 2 finds our group of friends still recovering after being kidnapped by the Blue Skeleton. In order to face their fears they head back out on the road to visit more haunted attractions, and a new terror begins when signs of the Blue crew start appearing again. We're breaking down the story, how it ties to the first film, as well explaining the quite twist filled finale and what it all means.

It really pissed me off how much the guys were playing down and almost gaslighting Brandy’s trauma.

Honestly, I really liked the ending.
I mean, if you're going to make the scariest of haunts, you do need to know your audience. I feel like the Blue Skeleton crew were both annoyed that the guys in the gang weren't affected the first time and felt sorry for Brandy who, whilst a viral hit maker because of her reactions, was overly exploited by the guys. The idea that they apologise by allowing her the chance to enact revenge by making the guys experience how she felt is surprisingly sweet. Talk about taking back control.
Honestly, whilst the part with the zombie beer crawl was a little dull, that is definitely a place I could see being a really fun time.
Overall, this isn't the best movie but the exposed heart shines through.

Yea I really like how these movies kept it in theme of it’s all a haunt not real. I think it would have been super generic if it just ended up “oh haha haunting house workers are actually killers haha” I really think a part 3 to wrap up the groups story would be nice. Honestly I liked 2 as much as 1. Just to see how the group messes with people.

The Soap Factory is a pretty scary Minnesota haunted attraction. They make you sign a waver before entering since the actors can touch you. And Halloween is very big in Anoka. I wonder if the other haunted attractions they visit are real ones, too. Would save on production setup costs.

Probably the smartest and cheapest way to do a movie like this is to use existing 'haunts.'

I kinda of really love this. Its debatable whether the Blue skeleton group's real goal is to truly traumatize or just have extremely intense "gotcha" moments that people can laugh about after. But kinda setting the guys up for failure and for brandy to get her revenge (and show her just how shitty her "friends" are) makes it seem they don't really want to truly hurt people.
The fate of the friend group is pretty clear to me- they're done. She's done with them. And she should be.
If they do a third movie I would kinda love the idea of brandy being more friends with the skeleton group- maybe joining their staff? Not as a scare-er i think, but maybe someone in place to call a stop so another situation like hers isnt born?
I think its interesting that they point out the possibilities of real danger in haunted houses. It really makes me hope that background checks become the norm even for local places.
As for cases of people who worked at haunted houses that ended up doing crimes- it seems to try and make it extra scary like "ooo! the person who pretended to do scary things actually did hurt people!" almost ala "playing violent video games will make you violent". Sure, being an actor puts it more in the realm of reality than a video game, but its not that different than being an actor in horror films. And unless I'm mistaken, most people aren't going around implying actors who've worked on horror flicks are going to become murderers. Besides, its hardly untrue to say there are plenty of other people in other fields of work that ended up doing shocking or violent actions. So to me, the only threat there is the lack of background checks to make sure you're not hiring someone who is a KNOWN danger.
Regarding work place accidents, they are tragic, and take an unfortunate tone when they happen at scary themed places. Its not as though work place deaths dont happen elsewhere, but these seem likely to be used either as a way to make the place seem "Scarier", or conversely, as a way to mark places like them as a hazard to society; instead of a tragic accident to be mourned and a reminder for safety.
also this kind of really makes me want to go watch haunted house recordings now!

Fun fact! At 11:24, that place is actually called The Masquerade in Atlanta, Georgia. It was an old cotton gin factory, but was then turned in a music venue with 3 levels. Heaven, Hell and Purgatory. The back was called the Yard, but was then turned into an area for more parking. And around Halloween time they had an 18+ haunted house called The Chamber of Horrors. I was lucky enough to go hundreds of shows here and even got to perform on these stages. It was later bought out for 15 million and the venue moved to the lower area of Underground Atlanta.

I feel like a lot of men don't realize the amount of fear that woman, especially traumatized woman, go though in these haunts. The chance of it being real- of being assaulted or r*ped seems much higher and an actual possibility (especially in extreme haunts who neglect background checks). For many men this is a second of being scared, then moving on, for a lot of woman its the constant thought of "what if?" What if this is real? What if that man wanted to hurt me? What if he did attack me, and everyone thought it was part of the haunt? I think this movie series did a good job portraying that fear, especially with how many scare actors specifically targeted Brandy and how the guys repeatedly dismissed it.

I saw this a few years ago, and was a lot happier with the second installment than i was with the first. While i lived the attractions they visited in part one, part two felt like a true sequel, that didnt totally rehash the first, but took the same formula, and added a plot line of overcoming fears and trauma, which many psychologists say the best way to overcome them is to face them. So seeing Brandy get her revenge at the end felt incredibly satisfying to me, and the Blue Skeleton group seeing the effects that their haunt had on someone who truly believed they were going to die, prompting them to set up an elaborate ruse to help Brandy overcome her trauma and get revenge felt like what a true horror troupe should do.
Personally, if they did another installment, i would like to see Brandy be approached by the Blue Skeleton group, and offered a chance to help others face their own terrors, but see dire consequences when someone they try to help turns out to be so traumatized, they snap and begin hunting the group down, creating their own group along with Brandys ex-friends to truly terrorize the B.S.G, and not with haunts, but RL terror.

I haven't actually seen the movie (and idk if I could because triggers) so maybe it hits different in context, but as a survivor, I really like this ending. the idea of taking back power and making the one who did that to you feel even a fraction of your fear so they actually understand on a personal level some of what you went through really resonates with me

Ok..... that's what I thought. So the first movie, the guys were in on it too right?. B/c the second movie when she's watching the reveal film at the end, it appears as though when the guys were buried and the police show up, they weren't expecting that to happen. The way the guy in the video above is explaining it, blue skeleton and the boys hooked up after the first video went viral, but in reality they hooked up before that, to try to make blue skeleton go viral to start off with with the burial being part of the plot, correct?.

I think these recap & explanation channels are fabulous! It provides so much more than movie trailers. Even with the “spoilers” watching a movie still gives so much more info so still very intriguing. Also, with so many movies that just follow the same patterns/ story lines/ tropes/ etc that the movie “spoils” itself anyway.
People just don’t wanna spend $75 to take their fam to a movie that they end up not liking. So people quit goin’ to theatre. However, after watching these, a person will be willing to rent the movie for the whole family to watch. Since it’s more cost effective then people are more likely to get more movies. Thus, the movie companies still make good money.
Of course, there will be people that use these movie “cliff notes” instead of the whole movie but whatever. They lose out and they’re the minority.

Others have touched on this but I think the main issue, aside from the boring re-tread, is that even the messages of the two movies are the same. They ask "how far is too far?" and the first says "actually committing a crime" and the second says "exploiting others" which would be fine if the stakes weren't so drastically different lol. Like killing people is obviously worse than being a j*ck*ss to your friends, ya know?
But also big agree that the blue skeleton group needs more fleshing out like who the heck are they lmao lik stalking is still a crime....

That sounds like a good idea in theory but having a Mary Sue type protagonist can make the film boring. There was a horror movie called The Horde that tried this, it was about a Navy SEAL going up against a bunch of inbred hillbilly killers. The fact that he was effortlessly able to outsmart and overpower the killers made the film completely un-scary.
But a good grounded movie where the victims behave realistically (given the circumstances) and have to use their wits is Green Room, if you’re looking for a recommendation
