Kathmandu, Nepal. One of the few known and accessible today recordings of the voice of Shivapuri Baba. Made by J. Bennet between April 1 and 2, 1962, 9 months before the Master left his body. The interview was also attended by: Marjorie von Harten, Melissa Marston (England).

I know that there are several beautiful books about Shivapuri Baba in Nepali, and among them is a book by his close student, Professor Renu Lal Singh. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any of these books electronically and translated into English or other languages...

Anyome know of the events after 1962 that wiped out 2/3rd of the world as the baba said.

I got to hear about him through Swami Arun founder of Tapoban who is also a disciple of him. He lived very interesting life in this earth but I wondered to find out he had a habit of smoking cigarettes; is it ok to smoke 💨? Just curious
Dear friend! Just like you, I got to know Shivapuri Baba from Swamiji Anand Arun, in his Osho Tapoban commune. My heart opened to Baba and I am very interested in the details of his life.
Yes, it is a known fact that Shivapuri Baba liked to smoke cigarettes, especially expensive English tobacco. And for many seekers this causes bewilderment, because we believe that smoking is a bad habit, and we believe that a person who has attained his own enlightenment should be free from any bad habits and attachments. This is undoubtedly so, and all the Masters tell us that any attachments and unconscious habits dissolve in the light of awareness ...
I can share my feelings and my experience on this issue.
The fact is that when meeting with any habits of enlightened people, we automatically (unconsciously) begin to evaluate what we saw, completely forgetting that we perceive everything through our filters, through our conditioning and completely not thinking that the enlightened consciousness is completely in a different way uses the things we are used to.
My Master Osho often reminds that those substances that stupefy the mind of an ordinary person help an enlightened person to penetrate to new levels of Existence. Evaluating the Masters, we do not remember that their work on Earth is largely invisible to us and it is much deeper than conducting conversations, satsangs and darshans ... existence and reduce the threats to humanity.
During satsangs, Anand Arun sometimes gives examples of such work of enlightened Masters, when they travel in a subtle body to different corners of the earth and help specific people in some situations. About how many of the Masters sacrifice their health and divert some of the destructive energies that threaten people with many disasters and deaths. I believe that by remaining unenlightened, we will never know even a fraction of what the Master's work really is...
Just like you, I was surprised and embarrassed to learn that Shivapuri Baba smoked (and not only tobacco...). However, now, I no longer doubt that smoking for Shivapuri Baba was not a bad habit, and its effect on the mind helped him in some important processes on the subtle plane. Osho speaks of something similar in his memoirs. We can read his words that he experimented a lot with various chemicals to expand his capabilities and reach a new level ... There is a discourse where Osho says that smoking intoxicates the mind of an ordinary person, but if he masters the technique that allows you not to succumb on the intoxicating effect of cigarette smoke, the same smoking can help open new horizons of consciousness.
So, according to my feelings, the true meaning of what an enlightened person does by doing everyday things in our opinion is that he does the same thing as ordinary people, but he does it consciously, for completely different purposes and at the same time achieves a completely different result. The very nature of enlightened consciousness means that there are no more unconscious bad habits in the life of a person who has attained his enlightenment...

On the Internet, you can find out that Shivapuri Baba is a Hindu sage who spent the last years of his life in Nepal. Born in 1826 in a village located near Kanyakumari (Kerala, South India). He was one of the twins who appeared in a wealthy Brahmin family of the Nambudari clan. One of his ancestors served as a minister in Tipu Sultan's palace. He lost his parents as a child, so his grandparents had to take care of his upbringing. His grandfather Acyutam was a famous astrologer.
As far as I know, enlightened sages have an intrinsic quality of religiosity and do not belong to any religion...
