This game got an additional port called 'Battle Rangers,' on the NES i believe, which gave us the absolute classic line "You! Invader! Get you the hot bullets of shotgun to die!"

the arcade version from data east is a upgraded pc engine board made custom for it.
This hardware is actually an upgraded PC Engine / Turbografx 16. The additions are a new pallet chip (the PC engine "graphics chip" is actually two separate chips one for tiles and sprites and one for the color pallet and ramDAC) a YM2203 FM music chip, a MSM5205 speech chip, double the amount of VRAM and a second HuC6280 CPU.
It's two bad they didn't also add an additional tilemap/sprite chip, this was how the Supergrafx worked, they designed a new pallet/ramDAC chip with a second pixel buss input for a second tile/sprite generator chip which doubled the background layers and sprites.@@bananonymouslastname5693

🥹🥺Anabolic steroids sound very seductive but very scary… maybe they’re different and better now, but I remember “Nope!”-ing out of ever trying them for muscle-building because of a teen novel I was given in the 90’s. It was called “Anything to Win” and it wasn’t really propoganda-y or pushy with its anti-(anabolic) steroids, but yeah, it gave me some good food for thought. It stars a high-school football guy who I think is starting to get attention from pro scouts and so he feels pressure, both inside himself and from some others to enhance his chances to “win” and succeed. He ends up trying some for a while, but he doesn’t like the side effects he sees in himself and some others ‘roiding up: uncontrolled anger was one, he himself started to experience sexual arousal problems and then the very “showpiece for ‘roiding” older guy who looked great and got him into it ends up starting to die from liver problems and he looks like it, too. Like real bad. So, yeah! 🙂There’s my non-‘roid-rage ‘roid rant! 😂

I remember playing this when it came out for Turbografx. The SNES was a year away and I hadn't played or seen in person a Sega Genesis yet, so this game blew me away. One of the few TG16 games I had access to that I played the Hell out of back then. In fact it's one of the games for the system I have CIB including the cardboard box for it. Never beat it though. And, no, you're not crazy. The soundtrack is easily the best thing about the game.
What's interesting is (at least for consoles) this is one of only three run and gun games Data East made. The first was Heavy Barrel on NES, this was the second, and the third and easily the best is Midnight Resistance for Sega Genesis. It's interesting to see their style with those games evolve. Heavy Barrel is cool as Hell but a bit bare bones. This is a step up with slightly better graphics with an ever cooler feel, and much better music. Then Midnight Resistance. Good Lord that game is amazing with one of THE best 16 bit soundtracks period. Seriously, you think the music in this game kicks ass? Look up "Flood of Power". You can thank me later.

I don't think it's aged well, but at the time this was the game that made me fall in love with the TurboGrafx; this and Blazing Lazers. NEC did a promo tour the summer it came out, and they had a huge (at least it seemed that way to my kid brain) pavilion at the local equivalent of a state fair. I mostly ignored the rides & exhibitions, I was absolutely glued to the TG-16 games all afternoon, and Bloody Wolf was the one I spent the most time with. Even though I knew it had some jank to it, I was accustomed to playing past plenty of that on my NES, and the hidden rooms and multiple weapons and vehicle made it seem more interesting than most of the other action games they had on offer (Ninja Spirit was there though).

I'll give you all a bit of knowledge you probably wouldn't see anywhere else besides reading this comment section.... unless you've been paying attention to the world the last 4+ years (or more).
At 2:04 into the video, the picture of the singer "Morrissey" used to mimic what the enemy sprites are doing -- That is Freemason symbolism 101 right there. His right hand is doing what's called "hidden hand" and his raised left hand is pointing towards the sky which typically refers to "lightning", "light bearer", "light bringer"...aka Lucifer. Also, you'll see that same exact pose by representations of "Baal" or "Moloch". This is very common in the entertainment industry with plenty of 3rd eye and "one eye" symbolism with all of this being ESPECIALLY prevalent in video games especially from the 1990s when kids were really the only ones playing said games...hmmm, I wonder what that's all about?? The RPGs of the 90s and early 2000s probably have the most out of all genres but it's literally in all them to the point where it's impossible that it could be a coincidence and the game creators "didn't know". Even if one only looked at games in the Shin Megami & Persona -- those two franchises ALONE are enough to make anyone with a working brain ask the question of what they're trying to convey.
That all being said -- I still enjoy ALL of these games I'm referring to -- I'm just far more aware of this stuff and the meanings behind them than your average person who thinks the politicians they vote for or their favorite "actor" in Hollywood could possibly be an occultist or into any sort of secret society --- even though it's literally all right in their faces.

Now do Red Alert/ Last Alert ! Even more unintentional humor and a much better game overall. Those cutscenes ! I mean, you can't say anything else than it's himariously bad, with an honest love for the Rambo movies that makes all of the charm.

I thought there was no way this game was real based on the thumbnail, it seemed like a surefire retro 8-bit game with an ironic cover, like for the Pico-8 or something. I actually LIVED through this era and still can't believe how cheesy it was.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:01 🎮 *Overview of Bloody Wolf Gameplay*

    - Despite its limitations, the game features quick and responsive gameplay across eight levels, maintaining a certain level of charm and entertainment value.
    - Players navigate through military-themed missions, rescuing the kidnapped president, utilizing various weapons, encountering enemies, and engaging in boss battles, embodying the classic "rescue mission" storyline popularized by games like Contra.
02:56 🛠️ *Analysis of Gameplay Mechanics and Performance*
    - Despite offering slightly better performance than some NES games, "Bloody Wolf" suffers from technical flaws such as slow frame rates and awkward controls.
    - The game's mechanics, including jumping, shooting, and item pickups, are relatively straightforward but lack refinement and responsiveness, contributing to a less-than-optimal gaming experience.
    - Issues with enemy AI, level design, and difficulty spikes further detract from the overall enjoyment of the game, leading to frustrating encounters and unfair challenges.
04:25 🎶 *Appreciation for Game's Quirkiness and Music*
    - Despite its flaws, "Bloody Wolf" offers a unique and entertaining experience characterized by its quirks, including comically exaggerated enemy animations and stilted dialogue.
