The Fräkmüntegg is a northeastern extension of the Pilatus in the Emmental Alps. The ridge forms from a height of 1469 m above sea level. M. the border between the cantons of Lucerne and Nidwalden. Fräkmüntegg is a stopover for the cable car from Kriens to Mount Pilatus, and it is a destination with several attractions. Below the Egg is the Alp Fräkmünt.
The Fräkmüntegg was opened up to tourism in 1954 with the Kriens-Krienseregg-Fräkmüntegg gondola lift by the former Kriensereggbahn AG (subsidiary of the then Pilatusbahn company). This was a system based on the Bell/Wallmannsberger system. In 1956 the cable car from Fräkmüntegg to Mount Pilatus was added. Both railways were renewed in 1996 and 1983 respectively.
In 1902 the Fräkmünt spa house was built below the Fräkmüntegg on the Fräkmüntalp. This was destroyed by an avalanche in 1915 and again by fire in 1969. The Fräkmüntalp mountain inn was then built at a different location. On the night of January 31, 2008, the Fräkmüntalp excursion restaurant fell victim to another fire. The Fräkmüntegg restaurant, built in 1955, is also located on Fräkmüntegg.
Fräkmüntegg was also a popular ski area with two ski lifts and valley runs to Hergiswil and Kriens. There were plans to expand the ski area in the 1980s, but these were dropped. Ski operations were stopped in 1994, the ski lift on Mülimäss was demolished and the ski lift on Fräkmüntalp was converted into a toboggan run. Today the former ski area belongs to sledders.
Below the Egg (mountain edge) is the Fräkigaudi summer toboggan run. At 1,350 meters, it is one of the longest summer toboggan runs in Switzerland. A little further down is the Pilatus Seilpark rope park. Fräkmüntegg is also a popular destination for mountain bikers and hikers.
The Pilatus is a mountain range in Switzerland south of Lucerne. It lies in the border area of the cantons of Lucerne in the west and Nidwalden and Obwalden in the area of the highest elevations, the highest point of which is the Tomlishorn at an altitude of 2128 m above sea level. Damn. On Lucerne's panoramic local mountain there is the Pilatus Kulm mountain station of the Pilatusbahn with a viewing terrace, a panoramic gallery and two mountain hotels.
According to the Swiss Alpine Club's classification, the massif is considered part of the Lucerne Pre-Alps as part of the Central Swiss Pre-Alps, and according to another classification it is also part of the Emmental Alps.
Mount Pilatus is not a mountain with a closed summit structure. The mountain massif consists of individual peaks or a mountain range, of which the donkey is the most striking rock formation.
The mountain range runs from west to east, starting with the Risetestock (1759 m above sea level) via the Stäfeliflue (1922.2 m above sea level) to Mittaggüpfi (1916.6 m above sea level, also Gnepfstein), where The Oberalp with the former Pilatussee lies in the upper Eigental. After the Widderfeld (2075.2 m above sea level), the ridge descends into the saddle of the Gemsmättlis, near which the border between the cantons of Lucerne and Nidwalden leads north. The ridge rises to the Tomlishorn (2128.5 m above sea level) as the highest elevation, after which the Oberhaupt (2106 m above sea level) and the Esel (2118.7 m above sea level) complete the chain. The Matthorn (2041.3 m above sea level) is located slightly to the southeast of the mountain range.
In front of the headland to the northwest is the Klimsenhorn (1907.2 m above sea level) with two foothills, to the northwest the Lauelenegg (1442 m above sea level) and to the northeast the Fräkmüntegg (1469 m above sea level). The Egg der Lauelen runs over the Höchberg (1198 m above sea level) northwestwards to the Würzenegg (1173 m above sea level) and delimits the Eigental, that of the Fräkmünt runs in a wide arc eastwards around the catchment area of the Steinibach. Krienseregg (1026 m above sea level) is located between the northern Eggen in the catchment area of the Ränggbach.
In front of the Esel to the northeast is the Rosegg (1,972 m above sea level), the ridge continues over the Steiglihorn (1,968 m above sea level) with the Galtigengrat as well as over the Windegg (1,673 m above sea level) and the Chrummhorn ( 1254 m above sea level) past the Renggpass (886 m above sea level) to the Lopper (960 m above sea level).
To the north of the Tomlishorn is the Chastelendossen (1,883 m above sea level), and on the south side of the Widderfeld is the Mondmilchloch.
