@@marzipandan767 Yeah, I mostly play support as Angel, but I have smoke grenades in all my other classes too. If I didn't have them equipped on other classes I would end up lobbing frag grenades into the middle of a field, directly onto a fallen teammate, or directly at my own feet
I started out the same way. Not before long I was using them to cover our advance on objectives and obscuring some nasty shotgun flanks. I basically go into every encounter now thinking “how am I going to game line of sight in my favour”. My favourite is throwing the smoke at a group of 10 or more enemy lads totally blinding all of them and allowing me to get basically the entire squad back up (revived) as well as a couple of blueberries to aid the effort. We usually win the ensuing battle.
It's a minor, almost pedantic gripe, but Smoke Grenades provide Concealment, not Cover. Smoke clouds are not bulletproof and may unintentionally telegraph friendly locations to enemies. Smoke needs to be combined with movement. Either a push, or to retreat. The best place to put it is often in front of enemy cover but ahead of you as much as possible. You're trying to block your enemies sight not blind yourself. They have some nice additional benefits: they break spotting, they prevent Boris' turret from locking on. Angel's APS cannot destroy Grenades whilst in Smoke as it requires line of sight (note: this applies to friendly Smoke too) so if you want to disable them aim to get the grenade somewhere where the APS doesn't kill it but within the Smoke radius.
I didn't know that about the APS needing line of sight! That's really good to know! I wonder if Tank APS works in a similar way... it would be cool to throwing a smoke on a tank would make the APS not work as effectively.
I have a special smoke tactic I call the octopus. As danger approaches, often an enemy tank, you deploy smokes all around you as you run away to safety 😂
While I completely agree with the message and spirit of this video I would like to make a small interjection when it comes to where to throw a smoke grenade. It is far more beneficial to throw the smoke at the enemy location (given that they are within range). First off all it will completely obscure their vision in all directions. Secondly, if they decide to charge out at you they are the ones who are going in blind while you can pre-aim the smoke. It also has the side benefit of not telling the enemy exactly where you are. The only exception to this is if you are trying to revive someone in the middle of a street or if you are trying to simply traverse the river as you show in your clip. Throwing it close to yourself or the team will limit your vision significantly more than it will the enemy team. :)
100 percent agree! Above all you want to give yourself the advantage. The only reason I suggest between you and the enemy is it gives you more time of concealment, if they decide to push you and you plan on getting to cover then you might get attacked before you can reach your cover if you throw it at them. I think it completely depends on the situation, and the great thing about smoke is it so flexible and has many great uses! Thanks for commenting! I really appreciate it!
@@marzipandan767I agree it is of course completely situational ^^ my only counter to throwing the smoke inbetween you and the enemy would be that they won't have to sidestep as much due to the smoke cloud being technically smaller from their perspective, where as if it is right in their face they will either have to walk directly into you - which you will of course prepare for - before doing the revive or whatever. If you are not doing a revive it is even better, because now you are the one with room to maneuver as well, because they will have to cross through smoke either way to get vision on you. :) And you are welcome - I am happy that someone is talking about smoke nades as the ultimate grenade utility. @Philip Croaton if they see you going into the smoke, they can just shoot into it until they get a hit marker, then try to figure out where you are from that. Most of the time, you'll be fine, but it's definitely concealment rather than full-blown cover.

They absolutely are. Next time your friend goes down in the open, you should say, "If only I had some kind of potable concealment which I could deploy to safely recover you." Do that about 20 times, and he'll start to come around 😆
Compared to the other choices I think it is no contest. I've been playing around with the AT Grenade with the engineer class, but I miss my smokes so bad! I would appreciate you sharing :)
Used smoke since BF3, you can hold flags just concealing with smoke, can turn a game. Great for destroying vehicles using C5 too….cant believe they aren’t more widely used. Just remember though you can be shot through smoke!
Me neither! Whenever I see a smoke down on an enemy, I downed I will always pepper it with a few rounds just to make sure there aren't any sneaky supports going for the rez :)
@@marzipandan767 I use it when I play Falck sometimes, her stim gun has quite a lot of charges and reviving is essentially getting a player up to 100 health, it's great for that as it puts up an entire cloud making it possible to revive someone
@I'm Not Using My Real Name I typically just run smoke grenades and an ammo crate with Faulk, and whenever I revive with smoke, then I'll throw out an ammo crate to help them out and get my smoke back in the process : )
@I'm Not Using My Real Name against tanks and vehicles, it's about twice as effective. But you'll need a direct hit to kill infantry with the AP underbarrel. It's the highest DPS option at range against vehicles... it's criminally underrated!
I can't deny a word you say about their merits and in Breakthrough I absolutely agree -- BUT a counter-proposal for consideration, the EMP grenade! I'm a C5 player so you might expect me to say that :) Just quickly why -- Smoke does everything you say, but it's just not as effective at shutting down armour and letting you get in to make the kill. For me the priority target is always to take out a Tank or Wildcat, and having the highest utility tool to do that outweighs its lesser 'universal' use case. A vehicle killed is I don't know how many saved on our team (obvious grey area given the skill & luck of the users), so yeah -- maximise the chances of success. If I made a short video arguing the case for EMP grenades, would you be willing to consider it? :)
But consider this, if you EMP a tank, they know that they are under attack and will try to drive away. They can't do anything else but drive away. If they see you running towards them, they are absolutely going to do this. However, if you throw a smoke grenade towards them to block your run up, you can safely approach them without them knowing you are coming, so they are less likely to drive away. Also, the smoke conceals you from infantry looking to protect the tanks. Plant your C5 and detonate it safely wrapped up in your smoke cloud. EMP lasts for 9 seconds while smoke lasts for 15, so it also has a larger open window. Consider the case where you are not in EMP grenade range and you are being shot by a vehicle. An EMP won't serve you at all. A smoke can protect you. Finally, most fights in BF2042 are going to be against infantry, and they are useless against infantry. Obviously, you should use what works for you, I just wanted people to try them out. I was planning on having this video be a comparison of all throwbles and why smokes are better (hence the preparedness for this EMP proposal), but it got out of scope, and I decided to scale it back. I was losing interest in the project, and I was worried about that being reflected in the quality of the video. But if you want to make an EMP video, I encourage it! My opinion is that Frags are terrible in this game, so more people switching off those and trying new things, the better :D Thanks for commenting!
In battlefield 1 I noticed how much more important smoke can be over throwing a hopeful frag grenade to score a few frags. Encouraging allies to advance in maps like Giants shadow that has open fields and few buildings is very tactical. Also a medic that covers the vision between enemy and your dead pals with smoke to revive is some true team play.
I think all of my frags are hopeful frags. Grenade indicators are just too obvious these days. I miss the Bad Company 1 days where you had to actually recognize that had been thrown.
Real talk, I really dislike incendiary grenades. They do really low damage even if you directly hit your target and can only kill if they sit in the fire. They are also hard countered by smokes since they put out the fire. But definitely play with what works for you. I just can't get behind them xD
As a main Recon. I Hate u smoke user. ( to clarify I completely agree with the points of the vid but throwing a smoke in front of my rifle, makes my time hell 😅😂 ( scope glint goes through smoke ))
as much as the frag Genade Comes in Clutch, You only have 1 Compared to 2 Smoke Genades, PLUS with the Added Smoke Genade Launcher, that would make 5 or 7 Smokes All over the Place Lol I Given it a Try because Most of the People are Shooting From Far away, that the Smokes are Very Useful just to not get Third Party
I’ve been running Falck with the SFAR (smoke under barrel) with Ammo crate and frags to have infinite grenades/help team and still have smoke. Do you think this is a bad loadout?
Any kind of smoke works perfectly. I personally don't like frags since they are too telegraphed and take too long to explode, so I rarely get kills with them. But otherwise, your load out is awesome. Constantly putting out ammo crates is a great way to make your team love you!
Same, I had to change up for some research for the video and it was horrible... I threw so many incendiary grenades onto my downed teammates out of pure instinct. Thanks for the comment!
I just learned to love the AP underbarrel launcher, but I also need my smoke... so I don't know if I can make this work. EMP grenades are great but I gotta have my smokes!
I'm guilty of this to. But then I'll go full predator mode, emerging from the smoke swiping people, then creeping back into the smoke. It's a good time 😆
You are showing us the incorrect location to throw smokes. Smokes should be thrown as close to the enemies as possible without going past them. This provides you a lot more of a concealed area to operate and allows you to actually advance. If you throw smoke close to you, you are only able to move up to the smoke therefore reducing your advance and operation area. i.imgur.com/fAaEnEb.png
I think it depends on the situation, but it definitely could be best in this case, especially if your objective is behind the enemies. The only thing you would want to avoid is concealing your enemies from others firing. Also, if you keep the smoke somewhat close to yourself, you give yourself the option to hop into it.

I guess i need to get over my Rising Storm PTSD. :'D
A someone who is still playing with smokes to this day let me tell you: the battlefield community hasn't figure this out yet :P
Most of the time it is safe, occasionally you'll have someone get a hit marker on you and then spray to finish you off, but very rarely.
By the way I loved that bit where you got a direct hit, won the match and everyone high fived you for your sick anti armour skills.
It was the absolute best moment of my BF career. You really had to be there 😆
@@marzipandan767 😂
on that 'ding' thing with 'Certain Death' i threw up laughing! Made my day. Thanks for the video to! (*is switching to smokes)
Haha glad to hear I could make your day! Definitely try them out I promise you, even if you are just using them to get some easy squad revives, you'll see the benefit! Have fun!
@@marzipandan767 I started to use them as covers and for run-offs. Amazing. However, some people still able to kill me (no thermals or random shooting). Seems, that there's a bit of difference how smoke actually applies to the field for me and the enemy... Dunno, just guessing. Anyway, I'm running smokes for the 1st time ever and I'm having real fun! Thanks again for the advice! Cheers!
@Philip Croaton if they see you going into the smoke, they can just shoot into it until they get a hit marker, then try to figure out where you are from that. Most of the time, you'll be fine, but it's definitely concealment rather than full-blown cover.
Ive been using the smoke+jav combo since BF4. I can definitely vouch for this strat. Especially since the smokes made jav lock ons a lot easier in BF4
It's a really powerful strategy. If you want to use the Javlin in close range, you'll absolutely want to be doing this, otherwise you are going to be dying a lot!
Thanks for the comment!
my friend thinks smoke are useless, but its the best choice in ly opinion. Pushing, reviving, cover, confusing the enemy. Got more benefits then drawbacks
They absolutely are. Next time your friend goes down in the open, you should say, "If only I had some kind of potable concealment which I could deploy to safely recover you."
Do that about 20 times, and he'll start to come around 😆
Could not agre more with you, still hard to convince those i play with to change to smoke. Gonna throw this link at their face. :P
The smoke launcher is also pretty cool I must say.
I agree that more smoke is great. But if you are playing engineer, then it's hard to put away the AP underbarrel launcher!
@@marzipandan767 is the AP underbarrel better than the HE underbarrel?
@I'm Not Using My Real Name against tanks and vehicles, it's about twice as effective. But you'll need a direct hit to kill infantry with the AP underbarrel. It's the highest DPS option at range against vehicles... it's criminally underrated!
Yes I also use this, mostly with the medic class. But again, I think like 15% of people ingame use it like you are showing in this video.
They are so underutilized and most of the other grenades grenade options are so bad. Glad there are others who know the way!
I've been using them since bf1 exclusively
I wish I was wise to them then! They are so good!
I can't deny a word you say about their merits and in Breakthrough I absolutely agree -- BUT a counter-proposal for consideration, the EMP grenade! I'm a C5 player so you might expect me to say that :)
Just quickly why -- Smoke does everything you say, but it's just not as effective at shutting down armour and letting you get in to make the kill.
@@marzipandan767 I've got an idea in mind for a video -- I promise I'll keep it short :)
Completely agree Frags are awful.
Great video! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! :D I appreciate you commenting!
Great tactic , i technically don't use grenades in BF 2042 but smoke in BF5 is a plus to learn how to use , thanks.
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for commenting.
That "idiot" in the corner is me!
Yes!!! Smokes since day one!
I wish I was that ahead at the time of release. I wasted too long throwing frags. I think I have like 17 kills... they are pretty terrible 😆
If a lot of your teammates are using smokes its worth considering swapping to emp grenades for sentinels to help advance the smoke screen
I can't give up my smokes... I just can't xD
Thanks for commenting!
I like using the incendiary grenade to push them back even if it’s just a little I might have to try smoke see how it works for me
Definitely give it a go! Especially if you play support or revive players a lot! You'll see an absolutely massive difference to your gameplay.
good video thanks.👍
Thanks for commenting! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Incendiary all the way. Block doorways. But best of all, it blocks your footstep sound
Real talk, I really dislike incendiary grenades. They do really low damage even if you directly hit your target and can only kill if they sit in the fire. They are also hard countered by smokes since they put out the fire.
But definitely play with what works for you. I just can't get behind them xD
@@marzipandan767 not about the damage. Its about the foot steps
They turned a whole generation into smokers with their damn subliminal advertising
Yep xD ua-cam.com/video/ewGyoxAq9Hs/v-deo.html
smokes, autoshotty, c5, dozer. You're welcome
Having a Dozer jump out of the smoke at you is one of the truly scary BF moments.
Preach!
I started playing the new bf about 6 months ago and I use smoke religiously. On every class. All the time. Don't @ me.
As a main Recon. I Hate u smoke user. ( to clarify I completely agree with the points of the vid but throwing a smoke in front of my rifle, makes my time hell 😅😂 ( scope glint goes through smoke ))
I kind of hate that scope glint goes through smoke. It doesn't make sense xD
as much as the frag Genade Comes in Clutch, You only have 1 Compared to 2 Smoke Genades, PLUS with the Added Smoke Genade Launcher, that would make 5 or 7 Smokes All over the Place Lol
I Given it a Try because Most of the People are Shooting From Far away, that the Smokes are Very Useful just to not get Third Party
Smokes have saved me countless times, I'd strongly recommend them. I actually have a smoking problem at this point...
Constantly putting out ammo crates is a great way to make your team love you!
liked and subbed, cheers
Thanks man :D
I switched to smokes a long time ago and I've never switched them out (other than maybe to complete weekly missions)
Same, I had to change up for some research for the video and it was horrible... I threw so many incendiary grenades onto my downed teammates out of pure instinct.
Thanks for the comment!
@@marzipandan767 Yeah smokes are the best (DICE please don't nerf smokes)
I use emp grenade with smoke launcher.
I just learned to love the AP underbarrel launcher, but I also need my smoke... so I don't know if I can make this work.
EMP grenades are great but I gotta have my smokes!
Until someone has a thermal site
You would think, but smoke actually straight up blocks thermals from working, try it out!
My dumbass will throw smoke onto an objective my team's defending and then we automatically get overrun lol course of habit
I'm guilty of this to. But then I'll go full predator mode, emerging from the smoke swiping people, then creeping back into the smoke. It's a good time 😆
Subbed
Glad you to have you! Thanks!
Shit is situational.
I think all throwables are pretty situational. I would argue that smokes will fit most situations more than any other throwable.
@@marzipandan767 Shit is situational.
