A light mineral oil and soft cotton cloth is all that is required to move cosmoline. Scrub pads should not be used; they are abrasive and WILL scratch the metal surface.
Cheap white spirit and/or WD-40,if you need wire wool use Brillo pads, they are the finest wire wool you can get and you can't over do it because the pad will crumble away.
Yes, the heat softens the cosmaline. Just don't get it anywhere you can't quickly remove it, like inside the scabbard or handle. Once thoroughly dried, give it an oil 👍
The thing about using the abrasive side of the sponge is that you could alter the original finish.
Thank you!! I've been apparently overthinking it for the last 20 years ...
🤣
My Romanian AKM (AK-47) bayonet comes in today. I'm excited!
Thanks for the video, it was satisfying :)
how did it turn out?

Gum out carb cleaner works well too.
I'll have to try some

Hey If you have an FN model 24 bayonet I’d love to see you make a video on it. Thinking of buying a couple.
I don't have any yet, but definitely on my radar. There are a few Belgian videos coming up though
I just got a m1895 Chilean bayonet should I put a new coat of cosmoline on the bayonet after I take the old one off?
Vaseline is pretty much the same thing but better lad.
I just wanted to confirm that I could use hot soapy water thank you. Probably gonna put some oil on it afterwards wouldn’t want it to rust
