- Ford's little Figo is one of the most sought after small hatchbacks for sale on the South African used car Market. In this video I compare the 1.4 Petrol to the 1.4 TDCI to see which car comes out on top. Both cars are exactly the same spec and sell at a relatively similar price point.

I've had a 1.4 petrol for 9 years now, and she still performs like when I bought her new. Just a great all round car.
Would you recommend it even now? I'm looking to get an affordable first car
Just bought mine last week, its a tdci and the fuel efficiency is mind boggling

Great little car. I once owned a TDCi and here's my opinion....
1.Great punchy engine. That 160Nm makes you to forget about 51Kw.
2.Good fuel consumption.
3. Very affordable
4.Cheap to maintain.
What I didn't like...
1.A bit noisy
2.160Nm felt too small at times
3.Turbo lag at lower revs
Verdict? Awesome car. Wouldn't mind owning it again

I've owned this car for 3 years already, I don't regret it
Good cars, I like them too
I have the 2014 model. This is a mechanically sound car and very cheap to maintain.
Two problems, very cheap, shiny plastic interior with noticeable gaps and rattles a lot. Another issue, NVH levels, the car is not well insulated, the engine runs rough, you hear and feel it quite a lot in city driving, in the steering wheel, pedals, and just the whole body. Where the car shines is on the highway, very stable and good steering feel.
In my opinion, spend a little more and get the VW vivo. Although they are meant to be comparable, the Vivo feels like it’s in another class.
This Facelift diesel has different injectors than the pre facelift. I am planning to get the diesel version soon.
I am happy with my petrol AT transmission so far at 56.000 KM, just the engine is kinda weak a little and not very fuel efficient. On the road after 100km car cabin gets noisy, that might be from my old tires as well. Overall if feel like it is a practical and easy to maintain car

It's basically an updated previous generation Fiesta. So it will be good .

My 2014 TDCi’s computer box packed up in November with 102 000 on the clock. While i replaced it already, I’m worried it might happen again. Any idea what causes/caused it anyone?

Just cambelt is expensive is important to for it to be done properly otherwise, with service history these cars are good engine wise
You may experience minor suspension wear down but nothing major
Also cheap brand new they were R120 000
Absolutely, like any affordable hatch they do have some drawbacks. But they are still great little hard-working cars.

My 1.4 diesel makes me want to upshift when im in 5th gear. The amount of times i was i took the car out of 5th thinking there was another gear has happened many times😂😂
A 6 Speed manual would have been fantastic 🤜🏻🤛🏻

They are as solid as you’d expect, high mileage cars may need maintenance as per normal.
I had the petrol and diesel and was not happy with either, especially the diesel.

Petrol consumption in city roads is terrible though
And doesn't do well with passengers
But theses figo are worth every cent also long as you do maintainance and change your water bottle too

Petrol mileage ?
45000 km
Brother, india mileage and Other Country mileage is diferent, i think in may be 10-13 Kms in per litre.
i preffer petrol
The engines of these is a massive letdown. The rest of the car is great.
Lights, brakes, maintenance costs all quite good...
The petrol has poor fuel economy compared to any rival. My 3.2 V6 Audi has better fuel consumption.
Both the petrol and diesel struggle with hills, 3rd and 4th gear needs to be worked hard to keep a steady 120 going and this equates to poor fuel consumption in the petrol.
The petrol returns a avrage 11km per liter. A 63kw comparable polo vivo would do 14-15 km per liter.
The diesel would return 14 km per liter.

Excellent comment. One thing that I personally believe that Ford missed out on, is that they had a cracking little 1.6 turbo diesel, that proved itself in the previous Fiesta, that would have been a far better engine for the Figo. That boasted a respectable 66 kw and 204 NM.
Even the 1.6 Petrol they did in the Fiesta it is based on was a powerfull unit... To my knowledge the 1.6 tdci you mention also did service in the Fiesta the Figo was based on. But I think Ford SA didn't want the Figo to steal sales from the newly launched Fiesta at that time...
My 1.4 diesel eats hills. I also got 15' aftermarket wheels on it

Reaching 200 000 km soon... Still flies like an eagle... I can fix a lot of things myself too... Too much content here on UA-cam...
