    I love this technique. It’s so much easier than traditional crochet mosaic.

    So glad I found this--long textile life but not as a crocheter--that's recent though many years ago did a bit but mostly knit. Found crochet, then found overlay mosaic and then---Tunisian crochet. After doing some block stitch with a drop of 3 rows (xtra long front post Tunisian double crochet) , it dawned on me that you can do overlay mosaic in Tunisian. Didn't find a lot about it and one other was the alternative method of mosaic which I don't care for. Watched yours and looked for other tutes on extended stitch--and found other methods and uses--none for mosaic, so thanks for doing this--it makes all kinds of sense to me and excited to try it (as opposed to doing one color row, cutting it, starting next color row, cutting, etc.--plus I love the look of Tunisian simple stitch)

      You’re very welcome Diane. I have a couple of pattern out using this technique and there are more coming. It’s fun to experiment with.

    Lovely video! Very clear! What brand of hook is that? I love metal hooks, but haven't found the right ones for Tunisian hooks with cords attached.

    I'm just so surprised that no one else is using Tunisian for overlay mosaic. I started with the 1 row each color, cut at each end (Tinna's), tried the 2 techniques that supposedly had no ends with little love for them-- but was stitching a Tunisian grid stitch swatch using an xtra long FP DC and thought, aha--why couldn't I use this for mosaic. The other 2 channels I've found doing mosaic in Tunisian are essentially doing inset Tunisian and seem to me, making it harder to do, follow a pattern, etc. I've been using your TSS and TES but wondered about a FP DC, so am using a long FPDC which gives good coverage for the overlay--and going to try the TES again in same swatch and see if I get about the same coverage for overlay--the TES is easier to do, especially with some yarns. Also--want to let you know that I changed to moving my 2 balls of color which made it easier to bring next color over the preceding one instead of bringing the next color up the outside---just automatically improved my right side and such an easy fix--but hadn't tried it yet until I did your little demo--and I thank you for that. I wish you would do some more Tunisian mosaic with your technique--so far, you are the only one I've found that is actually using Tunisian for overlay mosaic rather than inset. I will say it is a relatively easy technique--the hardest part is following a more complex pattern.

      I think other designers are using this technique, I certainly didn’t invent it.
      I’ve used the tdc method which usually requires skipping stitches. I find that method to be more bulky and easier to get the pattern wrong. This requires far less effort. There are more patterns in the pipeline from me including a mosaic blanket sampler. It’s in Homespun Crochet magazine and you can see more details of it on my Ravelry account. I have a mosaic shawl pattern coming out this weekend too. Follow me on Insta @abbeymade for the latest design news!

    This is great! Eliminates all those ends. I watched some other vids where they yarn over for the drop stitch. Is this a different stitch than the tes you're doing? Also, how did you come up with 22 stitches? Thanks for the tutorial!

    • @AbbeyMade
      @AbbeyMade  10 місяців тому

      Yes doing a yarn over and then working tdc over it is another option. It requires more concentration and results in a fabric that’s a bit more sloppy. I prefer this method.
      22 includes the edge sts.

    Thanks for this beautiful tutorial. I’m doing something wrong and can’t work out what. When doing the TES and you say to go through the two vertical bars, I have only 1bar, the second bar would be the next stitch so Assume this is not it. Any idea what I’m doing wrong? 😊

    • @AbbeyMade
      @AbbeyMade  2 роки тому +1

      Remember that a Tunisian simple stitch has a front vertical bar and a back vertical bar. You put your hook under both the front and back vertical bars. If you work with a very tight tension, the back bar will be hard to see. So check your tension and wiggle the tip of your hook around so you can find that back vertical bar as well.
      Thanks for the compliment!

      @@AbbeyMade thanks so much Abbey for your help, yes the tension was tight and I’ve increased the hook size so now I can clearly see the front and back bars! 🤗
