Ronald Ollie, A talented yet misguided football player turned to Netflix documentary sensation, then becoming a storyline on HBO’s NFL Hard Knocks for the Oakland Raiders.
Only at age of 23, Ollie has experienced stardom through through social media, became a HBO Hard Knocks heartstring to not being able to keep living out his dreams. He has done more in his life at the age of 23, than most people have in their 60’s. But what were Ollie’s pitfalls on his journey though football fame? Lets break down the cautionary tale of a young individual, who had so much promise and fame, yet still was unable to keep it all due to missteps and shortcomings.

a kid from Shubuta, Mississippi. A background layered with hardship, his mother was murdered when he was just five, making him an orphan. Ollie has experienced the world in a different light than most.
Being one of the central figures in the first season of "Last Chance U” in 2016. Netflix viewers gained an unprecedented look into Ollie's JUCO experience. Which followed East Mississippi Community College's football team.
He recorded 13 1/2 tackles for loss, five sacks and two fumble recoveries en route to being selected as an All-Southland Conference honorable mention. But these accolades on the field didn’t come without baggage off the field.
On the show, we watched Ollie struggle with homework and grades. Fend off homesickness and concussion symptoms, and attend class without a pen or paper, all the while seeing EMCC academic advisor, Brittany Wanger, try to help maximize his opportunity at a greater life.
Ollie parlayed his playing ability and Netflix fame into a scholarship at FCS Nicholls State. He was an actual playable character in the NCAA video game. He later went undrafted, but piqued the attention of scouts after his Pro Day in which he reportedly ran a 4.87-second 40 at 292 pounds, posted a 35-inch vertical, and bench-pressed 220 pounds 22 times.
He entered the 2019 NFL Draft but was not selected by any team. After the draft however, he was set to be signed by the Ravens as an undrafted free agent but the Ravens pulled out of the contract before he could sign. He immediately received an offer from the Raiders to participate in their training camp.
His talent was never in question, it was the lack of responsibility, attention to detail and overall motivation that handicapped the young man’s escalator to ultimate success. Every time Ronald had an opportunity in front of him, he always barricaded himself via his actions. Which would eventually bite him, when it came to keeping a job in the national football league.
Early in the episode, Ollie was introduced to the viewers as a rookie defensive lineman trying to make the team. He also expressed some frustration with having his reputation from Last Chance U follow him to the NFL. When talking about some aspects of how he was portrayed on the Netflix show with Raiders defensive line coach Brentson Buckner, Ollie said some of it was “embarrassing.”
Now he just wants to prove that he can make it as an NFL player.

I knew Ollie personally when we were in Wayne County going through school and agree with the video. He’s a very talented person with a lack of responsibility. Great person overall but that will set you back on a lot of successes through life. Fortunately, he’s been signed to the Toronto Argonauts and seems to be doing well there!
That’s awesome to hear he is back on track! Contrary to some of the comments, this video was made to highlight the experiences he had, both good and bad! Hopefully he uses this new opportunity to kick start his football career success again!
He got signed by Argos of the cfl, personally I find cfl better then xfl. It’s been around for 100 plus years. The salary cap is bigger and it’s not a gimmick like xfl. Argos are not good team last year but they changed coaches. So who knows the cfl is very unpredictable league.
Hopefully he takes his opportunity in the CFL and runs with it! He honestly has legit NFL caliber talent, but its very easy to get overlooked once your off the field issues start to pile up. Its not always about how good you are
I watched last chance U and was one of those rooting for him but in my mind, there was something or somethings that happened to him growing up that we the viewer or anyone I would guess, got to know about. Anytime it looked like he was getting somewhere, he would self destruct. Like he was scared he'd succeed. He used to make me very angry with his attitude at school and his attitude at the Raiders, I just wanted to slap him! All he'd been through and he literally walked/threw it away. I think he needs some sort of counselling. That or he'll hit rock bottom then maybe that'll wake him up and he'll want to make a change. He needs to want to change before anything can happen.

My take on RO was your right he had talent, the sad trust is your right no responsibility, no DRIVE! Ms Waggner begged him to go to class in last chance U, He didn’t take school serious! But let’s be honest how many of us would give it everything you had to try to make it on the team. Yes the raiders are not on the top of the NFL rankings. They are still an NFL team. He pissed away that GOLDEN opportunity!!!!!!!!!

These are the kind of ridiculous videos that have the potential to get someone depressed and God forbid commit suicide ......who is too say he has risen and fallen .This young man is just getting started in life and has a lot to figure out before he reaches his Goals and along the journey he may even have to make a few adjustments .....and then people like this just draw conclusions of a rise and fall based on documentaries .....for all you know he is just getting started in life maybe football may not be his path but he may need to learn from some of the achievements and failures he will make inorder to be successful at something else ......but unfortunately negative videos title and opinions will be hurriedly put out there without care about how it might mentally impact the person in question making him to look at himself the wrong way and pushing him to think he is done ........we need to do better
