I went to the Dadant headquarters store in Hamilton, Illinois last month (about an hour away) with the intent on buying a new ventilated bee suit, which I did. BUT, also spent an additional $500 on other stuff, including the top of the line smoker. Too much like a toy store for beeks!
They let you into the 'store' part? They stood there blocking the gate talking to a guy about slatted bottoms when I tried shopping in it. Drove all the way from Champaign to be denied entry. I made up for it by sneaking in the back door. Wandered around the warehouse until they caught me. I got to watch the frame assembly line in action. It was a year ago.
Thanks for sharing Kamon. I wanted to order from DADANT, but they only sell Queen Cups in 100 count and I didn't even see Cell Protectors on their website. I am an elderly backyard beekeeper with only 4-5 hives. I would like to educate myself in grafting of larvae, but Not with 100 count of queen cups. You can't find anyone who wants to sell to the old men beekeepers, who would like just to graft for a few queens to rejuvenate his hives. I can't even find a small supplier who is willing to sell a smaller amount. It is Not the cost, but the fact that anything beyond a dozen or two is waste. They would end up in the landfill and I don't think our God would appreciate that at all. I used to drive to Brushy Mtn. in PA to get supplies, but they went down with mismanagement. Thanks again for producing great and informative videos.
I've always ordered my things from them by phone or from their catalog, so it was very nice to see the store and warehouse there! Thanks for the store tour!
Love your wife's giggles. You two fit together so well. If you want to learn about honey in the comb watch Herman Danenhower's videos on producing the Hogg Half Comb using the Juniper Hill Split (he also has modified it to make it even easier). It can be used with any comb or sectional honey technique. His technique is much easier than the method from honey in the comb. With honey in the comb there's a lot of traveling back and forth to the hives nicking queen cells. His method eliminates that. I've done both methods of producing comb honey and I'll only do the Juniper Split from now on. Just so much easier. Comb honey production is a lot of management anyway, so the simpler the better.
Thanks for the tour of the bee store. Our closest store is Isabees in St. Louis. You're up early on this Saturday morning. I always enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work!
Dadant is the best , I buy almost everything from them . And if you buy a hundred dollars its free shipping and most product . I A little birdie told me you were coming Friday and then changed the time . That was a let down . Thank you for all the info . Wait until the next time i see tasha . She never gets her hair done for me . lol
Dadant is the big daddy of bee suppliers. They've been in business since 1851. The other suppliers depend on Dadant for frames etc. Not very many beekeepers know that Dadant started the package bee industry when he lost all his bees.
The veil on my original jacket gave out after 12 years (it was not detachable/replaceable - buyers take note!). I find a full bee suit to be overkill, but really wanted something ventilated when I need more protection in our 100degree + summers. I have a Guardian jacket I bought this winter. Too early to say how It will perform in the heat, but the quality appears to be excellent and the hood detaches and can be replaced. I buy white painter pants for those times I need my legs covered. Lots of pockets, comfortable enough in hot weather, durable and inexpensive. Thanks to Joe May for that idea. I switched to a 10:inch Dadant smoker a few years back and am delighted. I light mine with a propane torch and the Dadant holds enough fuel to burn for hours. Kamon, , is it true that Laurel took away you wallet before you went into the Dadant store? Stu
At 4.26 the sheep drenching gun you looked at is very useful for oxalic dribbling. You can get round your apiaries very quickly with them. I made my own version a few years ago. Place the container in a rucksack allows you to have faster manipulations. Over time the rubber seals will perish and need replacing. I wonder if Dadant would carry spares. In the UK our farming suppliers should have them.
I have a 1980's dadant smoker I am still using still does an excellent job. Been to Paris,Tx store very helpful about 45 miles away. FYI 1st Swarm call NE Texas 2/28/20
I am in Georgia got into bee keeping last year and tried their other locations service wasn't good but the Frankfort location was great. The staff are willing to help you with what you need and if any problems with order they make it right.
Smoker...hmmm. I think I might have the oldest working smoker. In 1977 my dad bought me bees and equipment. I still have the Kelley Smoke Cloud smoker. The guy who sold it to us made me say that I had to save peach cans for when it rusts out. My old peach-can smoker is just for looking at but it does actually work. Anyone else have a 43 year old smoker that works?
I am interested in the oxalic acid dribble method. I couldn't find the setup in any of my catalogs. Where do you think I would find one. I just got the new dadant catalog and couldn't find it. Thank you for your videos, I really enjoy them.
I started to say the next time I’m in Lexington that I might drive over and check it out but I’m scared I just might spend too much like you spoke about Kamon.
The lye caught my eye. Haven't been able find to make soap and was gearing up to use ashes lol. Now I know who has some. Actually the brand I always used! I have been wondering between Dadant and Mann Lake. Anyone on here have a preference? I do have the Dadant smoker..one of my prize posessions. I live simple. Nice video tour..thanks!
You mentioned dribbling oxalic acid on Bees to control Varroa. We use this method for many years but will not do it anymore it is the reason many beekeepers find weak or dead colonies in the spring. Bees eat the sugar and acid and die a slow death because it burns they're insides. we have done many experiments with this method. We have spent probably thousands of pounds on varroa treatments some kill bees like MaQs formic acid. Some work but bees don't like it like appygard really stresses the Bees hate it they can remove all larvae with this treatment and queen stop laying this treatment takes too long one month. Only treatment that works for us is vaporizing oxalic acid least stressful and harmful to the bees and it works.
This is where I've always gotten my packages. I swear I've only been watching your channel for a month or so. Did you provide them with their Italians last year? Both overwintered, by the way.

Old books on beekeeping are priceless. In all seriousness your vids are the most informative on the tube.

It looks like they have a pretty good facility there and definitely a lot of product. Thanks for sharing my friend.
Dr.Connor is one of my favorites I have several of his books I have attended several of his seminars. Dadant is a great store to go they have it all
Wish I knew you were in town we could have done lunch
Dadant in Paris, TX is my "go to" source for my supplies. VERY helpful and knowledgeable staff.
Nice looking shop! Will have to drive up there and check it out soon!
Thank you for the video and your typical Kamon awsome prezentation !!!!!!

My man laughed out loud when you said you are going for one thing. Coming home with 15!
I am so much the same!
and need to go back for the one thing I forgot to get.
@@timan2039 haha, yeah, that too!
👍 for thet big smoker. I think we have seme one. The wood is gone black, can't see the name. Around 10 years old. First in inox. Love it.
Kamon, that smoker looks huge! That was a good looking hive tool, I love the red. I hope you didn't buy them all, lol.
And made in the USA.
Kamon please consider doing a film on excluders. The how what why when to use them. Thanks hello from Kentucky mountains 👍
Thanks !!

I just finished the Scientific Queen-Rearing book last Thursday. It is can be little tough to read in places but well worth the effort.
Totally!
You mentioned importance of lubricating extractor. Would you please elaborate?
There are locations in extractors that need food grade grease. We will try to show you in a video
Looking forward to extractor lube tips. Much appreciated.
My local being out of Lexington... I'm up there all the time.
I am interested in the oxalic acid dribble method. I couldn't find the setup in any of my catalogs. Where do you think I would find one. I just got the new dadant catalog and couldn't find it. Thank you for your videos, I really enjoy them.
Like a kid in a candy store. 👍🐝🐝🐝🌞
The ventilated suits are a must have for hot bees as well.
I go to Dadant in Danville VA I use them alot
That's where i by my stuff at in Frankfurt i was there Wednesday
I started to say the next time I’m in Lexington that I might drive over and check it out but I’m scared I just might spend too much like you spoke about Kamon.
Great company I used made theirs pollen pads

Both companies have certain products that are special. I buy more from Mann lake but Dadant has some stuff I just can't get anywhere else
@@kamonreynolds I would like to buy honey bees from you sir. How would I go by doing that.
Lol I would be like a kid in the candy store lol 😂
You think a lot like me. I’d buy the USA made hive tool also.
Thanks for the video and info, I may buy one of those smokers. As the saying goes like a fat kid in a candy store!
Can you say, do Dadant brood frames blow out often when extracting honey in an extractor?
Mine don't but I use plastic foundation so that nearly eliminates blow outs
I try to stay away from those shops for that very reason, one bee clip can add up to a truck full.
Looks similar to the Fresno, Ca store

I recommend dribble with glycerin so that the bees won't consume it. Also feeding the bees during treatment helps
Ok, K how much did you buy & what? I know you can’t resist!
Syrup pump hundreds of nucs boxes bottles, jars, labels all kinds of stuff!
This is where I've always gotten my packages. I swear I've only been watching your channel for a month or so. Did you provide them with their Italians last year? Both overwintered, by the way.
Hey Luke no I haven't ever provided them with queens but I am glad your bees overwintered successfully
Kamon do you remove honey supers when treating with oxalic acid
Hi Kenneth yes honey supers must be pulled in the USA for the legal usage of OA
@@kamonreynolds How long do you leave them off
I live right by a Dadant.
Dang Kamon I was just going to ask you what smoker you would recommend. I’m at the INDIANA bee school and they are here. Going to get a new smoker.
I love all 3 of my dadants!
Kamon Reynolds - Tennessee's Bees I got the 4x10. It’s going to be warm enough to be in them
Tomorrow. I’ll get to use it tomorrow.
I think I live in a bee supply desert..LOL
Ever thought of giving up beekeeping and becoming a Dadant rep? You ole snake oil salesman you. Keep smiling :-)

Who’s got the kids?
