Whether or not they are cat ears is up to the player, but the fact remains that the square ends up wearing triangles on its head during the story mode. Then again, I'm the idiot arguing about cat ears in a video game.

Fun fact: JSAB defines normal mode as ‘hard fun’ and hardcore as ‘brutal fun’ which might explain why the tutorial just throws you into the action (this is visable when you go to start a playlist)

I actually like the way the tutorial escalates. It starts off with almost nothing, allows you to learn the controls, then combines everything you've learned so far.
The journey begins... You are a teal square... you aim wonderless around a black realm before you find a triangle, you collect it and suddenly you hear a beat with pink spiked circles appearing at the right, you do it again and you hear more instruments of a beat with more projectiles appearing... you collect more triangles until pink circles start to fill up the screen, before they cover you up, they go away and the beat gets so strong it turns into an avoidance! That's pretty much the introduction to Just Shapes and Beats, my favourite rythem game ever!
And then after wandering through 3 more levels of madness and collecting the 3 triangular keys, a bridge rises from the abyss. Crossing it brings you to a new level. Entering it, you see a pink circle in the centre. It shoots circles randomly, then starts spinning, and appears to grow an eye. After a few more bursts of circles later, it gets angry. Its eyebrow goes from straight to a chevron-type shape, signifying its anger. It suddenly grows arms and begins to punch the ground beneath both of you, spraying shards of pink in all directions. Lasers blast from the edges of the rectangular arena, threatening to shatter you and cast you into the abyss you came from. The creature fires its arm off suddenly, and as the arm comes into contact with the wall, it burrows through, sending debris flying everywhere. After chasing you around the stage whilst its arm shoots from one side of the stage to another, it shakes its one remaining arm, which then forms its other one back, whilst the one it shot off continues to fly around the area like a missile. After a while, it drifts directly into the path of its arm, which flies straight and true, punching the creature in the face. Instead of being hurt by the impact, the creature shrugs it off, growing another pair of arms. After the madness that transpired before that event repeated itself a few times, the creature vanishes, before reappearing as a circle again. After re-enacting its original phase's attacks for a few seconds, it grows incredibly big, towering over you more than it did before. It then fires off alternating laser beams from its eye, then raises itself on its hands again and shooting one into the wall as it did before. The creature grows in size again, before blasting most of the stage in rage with a pink laser, before firing the alternating lasers again. This time, it fails to stop itself with it's hands in time, causing a massive shockwave. Even though it is stuck into the ground, it fires more lasers from its eye in an attempt to hit you, as if it hadn't already overused that attack. After repeating these patterns each once more, it grows four arms and attempts to launch them into a circle around itself. However, it suddenly realises it has accidentally fired each arm in a circle, and the arms, all four of them, come crashing into the creature simultaneously. Suddenly, a triangle drops from itself, and it fades. After collecting the triangle, the world becomes blindingly bright. Unexpectedly, you find yourself on an island, a large tree formed of 3 gigantic triangles towering behind you. Your memories come flooding back of your life in the previous days, and the fun you had with your friend. (The other three tutorial levels, and the tutorial boss fight, Long Live the New Fresh)
Ultima DoombotMK1 From there you travel with your friend, a larger, more emotive, square with hands and spread a healthy amount of the Triangles of Creation out to the various areas. During your journey, you notice strange shapes in the sky that can only described in your mind as “credits” but you know not what they mean as you continue. Finally you seem to end this mini-adventure with your new-found square friend in a cave with one of the inhabitants of this land happily bouncing along, Content on receiving a triangle of his own. The triangle floats as more shapes appear in the sky. This time you understand their meaning. “It’s Over”, they say. As the triangle readies itself, the inhabitant suddenly slams itself into the triangle, absorbing its power. Pink colors begin to cover the area as the inhabitant becomes corrupted. The shapes in the sky change their saying slightly, “It’s Over?” Then the round being from before crashes up from below, and attacks you and your friend. You narrowly escape the cave and are desperate to reach a safe haven from his attacks. The being continues to spread this pink-like corruption, ruining the oceans and islands in his wake. The “Credits” themselves become pink and corrupted by his attacks and soon enough, he attaches himself to the gigantic tree, formed of three triangles. Desperate to make himself even more powerful, the round being forces the tree out of the ground causing a massive explosion of power and corruption. He and the remains of the tree float in mid-air as you approach, ready to confront him.

You are a teal square... you aim wonderless around a black realm before you find a triangle, you collect it and suddenly you hear a beat with pink spiked circles appearing at the right, you do it again and you hear more instruments of a beat with more projectiles appearing... you collect more triangles until pink circles start to fill up the screen, before they cover you up, they go away and the beat gets so strong it turns into an avoidance! That's pretty much the introduction to Just Shapes and Beats, my favourite rythem game ever!
And then after wandering through 3 more levels of madness and collecting the 3 triangular keys, a bridge rises from the abyss. Crossing it brings you to a new level. Entering it, you see a pink circle in the centre. It shoots circles randomly, then starts spinning, and appears to grow an eye. After a few more bursts of circles later, it gets angry. Its eyebrow goes from straight to a chevron-type shape, signifying its anger. It suddenly grows arms and begins to punch the ground beneath both of you, spraying shards of pink in all directions. Lasers blast from the edges of the rectangular arena, threatening to shatter you and cast you into the abyss you came from. The creature fires its arm off suddenly, and as the arm comes into contact with the wall, it burrows through, sending debris flying everywhere.
After chasing you around the stage whilst its arm shoots from one side of the stage to another, it shakes its one remaining arm, which then forms its other one back, whilst the one it shot off continues to fly around the area like a missile. After a while, it drifts directly into the path of its arm, which flies straight and true, punching the creature in the face. Instead of being hurt by the impact, the creature shrugs it off, growing another pair of arms. After the madness that transpired before that event repeated itself a few times, the creature vanishes, before reappearing as a circle again. After re-enacting its original phase's attacks for a few seconds, it grows incredibly big, towering over you more than it did before. It then fires off alternating laser beams from its eye, then raises itself on its hands again and shooting one into the wall as it did before. The creature grows in size again, before blasting most of the stage in rage with a pink laser, before firing the alternating lasers again. This time, it fails to stop itself with it's hands in time, causing a massive shockwave. Even though it is stuck into the ground, it fires more lasers from its eye in an attempt to hit you, as if it hadn't already overused that attack. After repeating these patterns each once more, it grows four arms and attempts to launch them into a circle around itself. However, it suddenly realises it has accidentally fired each arm in a circle, and the arms, all four of them, come crashing into the creature simultaneously. Suddenly, a triangle drops from itself, and it fades. After collecting the triangle, the world becomes blindingly bright. Unexpectedly, you find yourself on an island, a large tree formed of 3 gigantic triangles towering behind you. Your memories come flooding back of your life in the previous days, and the fun you had with your friend.

Ultima DoombotMK1 From there you travel with your friend, a larger, more emotive, square with hands and spread a healthy amount of the Triangles of Creation out to the various areas. During your journey, you notice strange shapes in the sky that can only described in your mind as “credits” but you know not what they mean as you continue. Finally you seem to end this mini-adventure with your new-found square friend in a cave with one of the inhabitants of this land happily bouncing along, Content on receiving a triangle of his own. The triangle floats as more shapes appear in the sky. This time you understand their meaning. “It’s Over”, they say. As the triangle readies itself, the inhabitant suddenly slams itself into the triangle, absorbing its power. Pink colors begin to cover the area as the inhabitant becomes corrupted. The shapes in the sky change their saying slightly, “It’s Over?” Then the round being from before crashes up from below, and attacks you and your friend. You narrowly escape the cave and are desperate to reach a safe haven from his attacks. The being continues to spread this pink-like corruption, ruining the oceans and islands in his wake. The “Credits” themselves become pink and corrupted by his attacks and soon enough, he attaches himself to the gigantic tree, formed of three triangles. Desperate to make himself even more powerful, the round being forces the tree out of the ground causing a massive explosion of power and corruption. He and the remains of the tree float in mid-air as you approach, ready to confront him.
