The moment when Roy hugged Jamie is, for me, an absolutely iconic moment and kind of my shorthand for why this show is so amazing. The amount of growth and healing that those two men had to go through to reach that moment when Roy could offer comfort and Jamie could accept from him... Just beautiful. I love that there was no dialogue in that instant because there was none needed. Chef's kiss.

Not only that but Roy was Jamie's hero growing up. Imagine he had such a shit moment with his dad at such a pivotal moment in his life only to have the guy he looked up to all his childhood step up and gave him the support he needed.

Jamie's flinch when Roy comes to hug him kills me every time.

This is one hell of and episode. Jamie and his dad’s confrontation and its reaction on both Roy and Ted is incredible.

Yeah, you see Jamie and Sam in scenes together where Sam only gets support from his dad, and you can see the pain in Jamie's face. It's like how Ted decided to bring Jamie back to the team after talking to Sam. He said it was because Jamie needed that support.

Also Jamie’s dad is listed in his phone as “Dad” (with quotes) and Sam’s is just Dad.

When Ted was playing darts against Rupert, he mentioned that he played darts w his dad until he died when Ted was 16. So, the audience has been left wondering what exactly happened.
Rebecca and Sam finally seeing each other is always fun !
Re family... The blood of the covenent is thicker than the water of the womb. Love a good phrase that gets warped by time

Ted also says "My dad was a lot harder on himself than he ever was on me." when Jamie visits him at the bar and asks to come back to the team.
It was sort of a throw away line that hits a lot different when we get to this episode.

This is one of my favorite episodes (probably my favorite). I think the father’s son themes really hit for men. That hug and then Ted’s confession about his dad… that’s something

23:55 When Ted was playing darts against Rupert, he said he played with his dad every week “Till the age of 16 when he passed away”
Heads up, the next episode is WEIRD!

Also he once told Jamie that his father was harder on himself than on Ted.
Both are key scenes leading to this reveal (and why I was so damn angry at the commenter who several episodes ago spoiled that the series was "about fathers and sons", a fact thats obvious after viewing this episode, because three different father/son plots converge, but was a nasty rotten inconsiderate spoiler when that person posted it).

The doctor who was helping Sharon, is Roy's sister. Her helping Sharon is why she couldn't go to the teacher's meeting and Roy had to step in ❤ì

One of the most memorable episodes. After an episode full of great moments, everything coming to a head with the 1-2 punch of the confrontation with Jamie's dad & the Roy hug, followed by Ted's opening up about his own dad to Sharon... just hits like a truck no matter how many times I see it.
Someone else in the comments already dropped the mention of Ted's history with his dad re: playing darts, but another little hint about their relationship that sneaks in him is in 2x02, when Jamie approaches Ted at the pub to inquire about returning to Richmond, and they talk about father-son dynamics:
J: "What about you? Was your old man like that?"
T: "...No. No, my father was a lot harder on himself than he ever was on me."
Well the train doesn't stop here! Thanks for the video, looking forward to what's to come. :)

There was a slip in your final review that speaks to how deeply ingrained in our society the employment differences between men and women are, even though Rebecca is the owner of the entire organization, when you referenced the power dynamic you slipped and said "and he's her boss". For just a moment I faulted you for that, and then I realized that the power dynamic in the direction between Rebecca and Sam is still such a rarity, that the concern that "she's his boss" is said so infrequently that your brain likely shortcut to what you said for discussing that issue in a relationship. I personally believe movement is happening to change that, but slowly because of how long it has been that way and how many people in power now choose to not retire from their position.

You were the first reactor I saw to speculate, "maybe Ted's Dad killed himself". I hadn't considered that when I saw your reaction, and hadn't seen far enough to know if it was right, but that just stopped me in my tracks. It all made sense. "I don't quit things." The whole darts scene. All of Ted. It all made sense. Now, ten episodes later, we find out that you were right. Well done. Fantastic reaction.

Big episode! The locker room scene with Jamie's dad has become iconic. So well directed, and the actor who plays his dad is brilliant in this scene. Roy's walk to Jamie is only made better/more emotional (for me) by the tune behind it: Beware of Darkness (my favorite George Harrison tune - worth checking out if you don't already know it)... Soo looking forward to the next episode's reaction from you!

‘Man City’ is the great foe and a turning point between Jamies father disaster and Ted sharing his secret about his farther. Anna asks what’s next? What’s next… some people love the Beardasode bottle episode however I am NOT one of those people! My advice to Anna… remember your ‘Man City’ take aways for episode 10 which holds the greatest scene of all time! This reaction was spectacular.

I have a theory about the book he looked at on her table after her crash, but I'll save it for a more appropriate time so there's no spoilers.

The Sam-Rebecca relationship is problematic for me but not so much because of the age difference. I mean, that part is awkward but not really a big issue. The employer-employee part is absolutely a non-starter. I suppose my attitude is affected by being a former government employee who sat through years of annual sexual harassment training sessions, but seriously - bosses CANNOT be in a romantic relationship with someone they supervise without it creating a dangerous power dynamic.
On another note, I love the fact that when Beard confesses to being on shrooms for one match, Roy instantly knows which one.

I was saying that at the time of broadcast, and it was about a fifty/fifty split between people who agreed with me and people who insisted it didn't matter or could be overcome.
Rebecca would literally have to divest herself of any decision making power that involved Sam and hand it completely over to Higgins, and make it publicly transparent too (in case their relationship later went public). Even then, there are still P.R. issues to deal with, and skepticism.

Sam is like the anti-Rupert. Whether he and Rebecca stay together or not, connecting with him is probably very cleansing for Rebecca....
