Not a single drunken idiot across the entire nation turned to his mate at any point during that ninety minutes of hell and muttered the words “what we need is prime Kalvin Phillips back”.............. Jesus Christ, how is this man managing the best group of England players in decades
😂😂😂😂😂😂
American here... I was ready for this match today, and up to the point of the first goal, I thought ok these guys are ready after the fact I was asking myself did they change everyone out on the pitch, what am I missing here... it just got worse. I thought Gregg Berhalter was inept, but I honestly think he's a genius in comparison to Southgate. I really hope something changes, or it's going to be a rough go.
ha ha ha brilliant mate
🤣
It was not drunken or whatever. The problem is how come all of the players became disjointed, uninspired, unspirited since the kick off?? Didn't you see it??
Usually it's down to the manager teamtalk or the preparation and training system is wrong.
Just think with common sense, sportsman who was given correct training and preparation will surely translate that on to the field. But if the training itself is wrong then that is what tranlated on to the pitch.
Steve Holland isn't an assistant coach he's a glorified physio......our whole coaching staff are tactically clueless.
With you , don't see any expertise or basic motivation there.
It’s another appointment based off the fact that they don’t cause trouble within the FA
Always wondered why the hell is steve holland there
Holland isn’t the problem, without him Southgate would be even worser
Why they didn't jump to get Steve Cooper or Lee Carsley in his backroom staff just for the tournament is beyond me. Both successful FA England coaches. He's out on a limb when you see the dugout
When you have an England manager who’s greatest achievement in club management was being relegated with Middlesbrough what do you expect
Wow...what the F were they thinking
I get your frustration, but that's harsh mate. Last 2 or 3 tournaments we've done ourselves proud. Yep maybe he should be sacked but I don't know mate, maybe I'm too soft. 😅
Along with losing a european final 4-0
He was Boro manager for THREE seasons in the EPL. Two mid table finishes then relegation. But relegation was not his fault as every Boro fan knows and as the chairman came out and admitted. Our finances were screwed, we had to sell our best players, and we ended up with a team not good enough. This is fact. That is why since then we have only been promoted once for one season. Is that his fault too? You guys know nothing.
Specialist in failure
At this point EVERYONE knows Gareth's gameplan... score first then park the bus.
Oppositions should just let England score first then attack them because we've seen how England have ZERO answers when they have their backs against the wall.
Been this way since the croatia game 2018.
Yep. Snowflakes.
Sounds like a practical game plan from South. I suggest you have faith in the experts
lol, that isn't the plan though, Kyle walker said it wasn't from the manager, they just aren't that good.
every team in this tourney will be licking their lips if they face this england regime.
1st and foremost whys Southgate not screaming from the sidelines to get out, or at Kane to stay forward, absolutely no communication, advice, encouragement or bollockings coming from Southgate or his staff, that is terrible in game management
Creates a culture of complacency.
He’s too busy referring to his management consulting book so that he’s ready to trot out excuses that work for the FA.
I have noticed that too he has no passion, like the opposite of Mourinho
No passion ,certainly no Klopp
He just sits there saying and doing nothing in dug out
Pearce says it's not Gareth telling them not to attack. Southgate himself says in an interview it's not him telling them. So my question is, for the last three tournaments, who is in charge of this team, please?
Up next : 2026 World cup
"It's coming home" 😂
We go again 😂
60 years of hurt!
😂😂😂
More like they're going home early 😅
No doubt you'll still be here in the comments writing your 1 millionth comment about the English media.
The problem is not Foden, the problem is not Kane. The problem is compromising several areas of the pitch to accommodate Jude in the 10, and the irony is, Jude isn’t even a natural 10, he’s an 8, yet Gareth insists on playing Trent 8. It’s completely absurd. He has all the pieces at his disposal, and a 2yr old could put this puzzle together.
Jude & Rice double pivot
Foden 10
Gordon on the left
Natural balance restored, heart of the pitch bolstered, Foden now in his optimal position, Kane’s toes ain’t getting stood on, and Gordon can hold the width creating space in central pockets for Foden, or be a runner in behind when Kane drops deep, and Jude & Rice bully the midfield.
Sounds good to me. Can't see Southgate doing this though.
This is exactly what every single England fan is or should be thinking. How can Southgate not see this? It’s genuinely worrying at such an elite level he cannot even get his first 11 right
Bang on. Everyone but Southgate can see this.
It's so obvious now that I actually think Gareth will do this agaisnt Slovenia. I pray at least. However, I think damage has already been done with these two lackluster performaces
Foden has been moving into central areas of the pitch and barely out on the left in past two games and still been poor anyway 😂
Went on a nice dribble at the end of the first half and went for shot from range off balance instead of playing it in to Kane.
I don’t mind moving Bellingham back deeper but off the back of those two performances Foden should be dropped to the bench regardless. Give both Gordon and Palmer some game time against Slovenia!
As a Dane 🇩🇰 England have some great players who look lost playing for their country..
Your Manager is totally wrong for Tournament football.
England players are used to having foreign players as 'creatives' in the Prem, so have no idea what to do when picked for national team.
It's been that way since Capello.
You have a really valid point there
Spot on ! If England had a world class manager they would of won the last two tournaments. The fact England have had some success in those tournaments has hidden the managers lack of ability. The problem is the manager not the players and the players now know it.
Missing link is Kalvin Philips 😂😂😂😂
I can't believe I heard that
Wow
A ‘prime’ Calvin Philips…..
Sterling, Rashford and grealish are the players who England are really missing.
Played 40 mins total in the last tournament, and has been injured or out of form most of the time since.
I remember after the France game at the world cup, Pearce was on the radio talking about how he begged Southgate not to resign.
Really?
He's reactionary. Someone has a bad game, "drop him". Doesn't know what he's talking about.
He’s Southgate’s mate he’ll never slag him off , pointless him being a pundit
Yeah - I love Pearce but he offers nothing but platitudes as a pundit. He never actually criticises anyone because they’re all his mate.
True
Interview after the game, Southgate mentioned not having a direct replacement for kalvjn Philips 🤦🏻♂️😂
He’s OBSESSED with 2 holding midfielders.

Players look exhausted, negative body language and Southgate is making them all look like fools.
Why’s Pearce complaining he’s the one that’s been defending Gareth from everyone for the past 18 months 🤦♂️

There was nothing to criticise Southgate for in the past 18 months...now there is. Its time to deliver.
@@jamdonut4021 I never said there was anything to criticise Gareth for, I said Pearce had been defending Gareth from everyone for the past 18 months.
Theres plenty to criticise Gareth for over the past 6 years.
Kane doesn't look half fit. Everyone bashing Tuchel for taking him off during CL semi Final then he revealed he's got a bad back.. Still had by the looks of it
Bellingham was shocking tonight before you start bashing everybody else
He was held up by 2 danish kings in the midfield 😂 see it, individuals doesn’t win. The Danes was a team, your boys wasn’t
Psycho showing the tactical acumen that made him a top, top manager a few years ago... 😂
One of the positives was Kane actually being subbed. Dont think Southgate has done that before.
The pundit industry needs to be curtailed. All say the same thing and there appears to be about 1000 of them.
hee hee ha ha ............spot on , the usual drivel. Been listening to the same crisis this , crisis that , tripe for every tournament since 1986 ......England absolutely awful for the first 2 games ......and then improving.
I think Southgate watching to much of that movie, Great Escape, He's Hilts (Steve McQueen), He's Escaping The sack all the time, Now He Feels like Danny (Charles Bronson), He's Afraid Through The Tunnel He Might Suffacated (Sacked) 🤣
Basically everything they have said before the tournament didnt work and hasnt worked, they come up with other suggestions
during the tournament which haven't worked and won't work, now they are blaming kane for the player behind him who are
responsible for 90% of the game lol. Rio, Lineker, Micah and now Pearce and many more have called out Kane after yesterdays
performance. Now its his fault the goal scorers, because he's not very good at the press and he doesn't make enough runs.
Basically blaming him for a England side who cant get out of their own half. They suggested Watkins and a few other changes
and sothgate actually tried them out and England was even worse. I mean what did they expect when Southgates left all his
experience forwards at home and replaced them with in experienced pups, who have never really played for England, the teams fragmented just like chelsea.
@@err4071 many were saying that Bellingham has to be at number 10 as our best player, but after yesterday‘s game they’re all now saying Bellingham has to drop deeper and Foden in at 10. Some of us were saying it before yesterday‘s game and Jason Cundy also called it to be fair.
I agree with the OP but,if they are all saying the same thing why isn’t Southgate listening?
If they'd started with Eze and Watkins, tonight you'd be talking about what a great game TAA had had! Playing TAA with no runners was like starting a Red Bull F1 car with no tyres.
If England played like his club side, Trent would have a field day. The England front line is stagnant, Kane ends up on the halfway line. Southgates game plan is garbage
100%, everyone on Trents back but what's he gonna do with no runners, no movement whatsoever. The pace and movement in the box is awful, our striker is nowhere to be seen and keeps getting in the way in midfield. Kane is a great scorer of goals but he's not mobile enough, it needs fluidity up front.
@@philelson113all trent can do is cross. Can’t dribble, no first touch, not a proper midfield

I think we’re past the point of Southgate taking responsibility, the fingers need to be pointed at the FA who have allowed this joke a 4th tournament with this group of players. We saw in 2020 he isn’t capable. All the FA want is a Yes man, exactly what Southgate is.
The players are rubbish though
Could not agree more, the FA is old school and I’m sure they’re really happy with Southgate and I bet there’s a spreadsheet somewhere showing how well England have been doing over the years!
Summed up perfectly 👏
👏👏👏
Well said felix
All the things Pearce mentions are managerial aspects. Southgate picks the wrong system, players, etc.
He’s had so much time to prepare these things.
I know Kane isn't the quickest, but it's the classic playing with an injury at 90 percent syndrome to my eyes. He's clearly trying to do the bare minimum. His back is not healed. Simple as. Should have been rested last four games.
you mean 44 Games
Now you can see why Guardiola is a genius and Southgate a scmuk
Newsflash
Harry Kane’s lack of discipline by constantly going rogue has to be punished, the guy thinks he’s untouchable.
Owen Farrell syndrome
Fair comment.
Ridiculous comment. The issue is Southgate creating a confusing situation. He's telling Kane and Foden to do things that don't work. Do they just keep listening to the mistakes of the manager or do they start to play how they know they should play? The decision to play Rice and TAA as deep midfielders leaves too large a gap between midfield and attack. Does Kane just sit up top like a lemon in the first game? The players are not the problem.
@@danh945I think we all know who the problem is but the players don't really help themselves do they?
The worst performance under Southgate was a minor game against Italy where we scored early and then sat back, never even attempting to run past their aging center back. Where he then brought on multiple cold players to miss penalties.
Close second is a game against Croatia where we took the lead and then sat back and despite them getting cross after cross into our box he never quite figured it out and lost the game.
😂
Only a couple of weeks ago England lost Iceland at the supposed "home of football". Not much had changed
What do you mean supposed? Where else is the home of football?
Awful punditry, banal questions and answers. All the fans know the problem is Southgate here and his style of play. They are just not honest enough to call it out.
Using the pitch as an excuse, like Denmark were playing on a different one!
If this England team were seriously going to be contenders at this tournament, shouldn’t the team basically pick itself? Shouldn’t the tactics be second nature by now? Why is Pearce going on about “experimenting” in the next game for? England under Southgate are an absolute shambles.
~ "Shouldn’t the team basically pick itself"? - No.
~ "Shouldn’t the tactics be second nature by now"? - Tactics are dictated by the coach. If he can't instil that then there can be no "second nature".
~ "Why is Pearce going on about “experimenting” in the next game for"? - Because he believes England are qualified already, possibly only in 2nd place depending on the next game. But yeah, experimenting during a tournament is idiotic.
~ "England under Southgate are an absolute shambles". - A shambles and more importantly, a waste of talent.
Agree. He's been the coach for his many tournaments? 4 & he's still experimenting?
Poor soul. He’s still ‘new’ to the job after eight years.
If Southgate could play 2 keepers, he would !

It’s ALL on Southgate. The England team look clueless. They have the players. He doesn’t know how to use them.
If he doesn’t play Foden centrally against Slovenia, I’m going to lose it!
He actually started to look creative and comfortable in the middle and then Southgate subs him off 🤡🤦🏻♂️
Also think they should play Palmer as with Foden and Walker they have played together at City so understanding would be there.
Yep players were trying to sort it out themselves but god forbid we started looking like footballers so southgate pulls them off.
If he doesn't do it or make changes that conflict again then I'm not watching another England game cos it's embarrassing to watch.
Maybe, we just overhype our players and other countries dont?
Germany, Spain, Italy, The Netherlands, France, they dont seem to overhype their squads....we act like because our players play in supposedly the best league in the World, that we have an entitlement to win things....we don't....Albania and Georgia look like theyd give us a run for our money and they barely have a single household name. They fight, have passion, team spirit, and want to be here. Our players and our manager are overhyped and overpaid, and like the authenticity of other smaller nations at the Euros who have proven they want to play football no matter what.
This is spot on. You could rinse and repeat the same narration for every single English manager since Don Revie and the1970 World Cup. Time and again England can put together 'world class' players, but can't put together a semi-coherent squad. The focus is to much on individual rather than a process that focuses on a strategy (aka philosophy) and executing the plan as a collective. Jude Bellingham for example is exceptional for Real Madrid BECAUSE he plays in a system with outstanding playmakers like Toni Kroos or Luca Modric, who are themselves play a part of a wider system.
But what should be troubling the British football fan base (including the other home nations), is the complete lack of knowledge of European football. The Albanians for example play in a number of leagues such as Italy and Germany, thus they are known quantities to other coaching teams. Yet people are surprised time and again of the quality of so called lesser sides. Until more English players and coaches ply their trade in Europe and improve on essential qualifications like language skills, England will be an underwhelming mid tier footballing power below Belgium and Denmark.
@dopplereffeckt675 well said been saying this for years
Maybe if we were playing France, Germany or Spain but Rice, Saka, Foden, Bellingham, Kane, Walker etc are man for man better than Serbia or Denmark yet can’t seem to do the very basic
Rubbish. I live in Spain and the hype and expectation is everywhere. Also the abuse they receive in the media is over the top! I think your observation is rom a UK media perspective. I was in Valencia today and watched the Spain v Italy match in the bar. Their fans were calling for blood at half time, even though they were the better team. Most were embarrassed winning by an own goal.
@gillie-monger3394

Having watched the last 2 games, I agree with this. I’d save Trippier and Kane’s legs each game by bringing on Shaw and Watkins respectively after 65 mins also
100% correct. The first two games, England have had nothing on the left hand side of the pitch. No threat whatsoever.
He died on the day of the England-Italy final was Paul Mariner...Mariner's movement (though not his finishing!), aerial ability and ability to link up the midfield and attack for Ipswich in the late 1970s and early 1980s was class, I look at Kane his a lump..

Paul Mariner R.I.P. Can't lace Kane's boots get A grip man but you have made me laugh out loud so thanks for that.
The fact that we’re always one of the favourites before every tournament is laughable! 😂 1 World Cup win nearly 60 years ago that’s it and that was a home tournament! Only 4 semi finals and 1 final (1 of those semi finals and the 1 final in another home tournament in our own stadium) since then is an alarming stat when you think about it.
Tap in Kane. So overrated. Slow, lethargic and always looks exhausted like he can’t even run. Always looses the ball by challenges or bad passes. Anytime he faces a defender he just falls on the ball to win a foul because he can’t beat anyone. Always head down. He’s terrible.

@@Campo2k10 yes, I agree "lots of problems" and one of them (among lots) is lack of leadership on the pitch.... Kane is supposed to be Captain..... He is not a scapegoat, he is a captain that only exists at press conferences and TV interviews.
@@cgo225 you clearly don't know the meaning of the word scapegoat so let me explain it to you. You are making Kane a scapegoat by singling him out mentioning him because he's the captain. There's only so much he can do as the captain. There's other people involved that aren't doing enough but yet you haven't mentioned them. Until things change then England wont play well and they probably wont win a trophy. Blaming one person when there's 11 players on the field and a manager there is scapegoating if you honestly don't know that then don't tell me that you're not using Kane as a scapegoat. I'm sorry for using a word you clearly don't understand.
@@Campo2k10 No, you're wrong - the scapegoat is the sacrificial goat that is held accountable and atones (exclusively) for everyone..... My post doesn't hold Kane solely responsible, it simply raises one of the many problems - his complete lack of leadership on the pitch.... I say "simply" but this is clearly too much for you to handle.... Feel free to have the last word if it makes you feel better.
@@cgo225 like I said you singled him out that's scapegoating it's that simple. You admitted there's many problems but you only mentioned one problem initially again that's scapegoating. It's a team game if the team aren't performing it's not all one person to blame for it whether they're the captain or not but you clearly don't get that.
Stuart Pearce absolute legend of a footballer but he’s the guy who put David James upfront for man city. Hence why he is no longer a manager and not a very good pundit either
How the hell is carlton palmer not getting a shout or Anthony Gordon? Watkins has to start , kane dropped but will he drop his captain? No chance , no balls
“Carlton” Palmer? 🤣
Southgate doesn't know what he is doing and the players don't know what they are supposed to be doing either!
Foden looked creative hed play better in cam hell definitely make England dangerous put jude along rice pit palmer or gordon on LW
Probably good timing for the fa to give Southgate a new bumper contract
Bowen before Palmer should be enough to show that Southgate is not up to the job. They need Gordon on the left Watkins up top foden ten Bellingham beside Rice his position when playing for Dortmund and tell Saka to use his pace rather than slowing down the attack all the time and if he doesn't replace him with Palmer and find someone to coach the team as Southgate team play the game like a team from three decades ago.
Apart from a few pundits and most of the fans, all we're constantly been told is how good Southgate is at making a lovely warm friendly dressing room....who cares? Does that contribute to winning any competition at all? We all know the answer to that but we'll no doubt be told its not his fault and be reminded what a nice chap he is. He hasn't won one single competition since he became manager....i guess thats enough for his cronies
I HATE TO SAY BUT WE DROPPED THE BALL WITH GREALISH HE WOULD BE PERFECT FOR THAT LEFT RIGHT NOW
Southgate clearly made the statement with Grealish to say we aren't attacking down the left this year.
The PL is dictated by foreigners and the English players are the ones getting carried by the PLAYMAKING INTELLIGENCE OF FOREIGNERS. England itself is far from one of the game intelligent football cultures. Bellingham same at Real, he's not THE playmaker making the team click and tick.
Perfect!
Yep .. although this England team is a bit better at that ..
That thicko would probably play Pickford up front like he did with David James.
Never count your chickens
reset
re-focus
play with freedom
improve
it's not yours
desire is key
play for the shirt ✌
I cant remember ever seeing such a dreadful performance, shocking
How about Iceland last week!
Its never coming home 🤣🤣
When has it ever been home to ever come home
Never my friend. This English media make me wonder
Don't worry they'll say it's coming home in 2026 WC 😂😂
You are going home.
@@MDRashid0509 It was the slogan of Euro 96, 'football's coming home', meaning the game of football coming home to where it was invented. In the last few years it seems silly people have interpreted it to mean the trophy.
Southgate was a disciple of Terry venables…..venables team had, balance ,high energy, passion, leadership, ….he’s not learnt anything from his predecessor….theirs no strategy ….if we wanted technical football, we should have pep to pepper it up….if we wanna lump the ball up the pitch , we should have cooper who’s just been appointed at Leicester, at least he’d set them up properly in a formation that works
If Luke Shaw doesn't play in the next game, why the hell was he taken?
‘Cos Southgate is an absolute mug!
No mention of using Gordon on the left?
Exactly
Denmark was absolutely robbed of a win i tell ya 😂
no
England have too many square pegs in round holes. Trent in midfield, Trippier at left-back, Foden on the left wing and there is zero use of a press or any shape creation to make passing lanes. If I were in charge, I'd play a more progressive style of football, one which can create multiple passing lanes and triangles to help us keep the ball. One such method is METODO, which Italy used to win back-to-back World Cups in 1934 and 1938. It's a 2-3-2-3 formation. It would be (Sweeper Keeper) Pickford, (Central Defenders) Stones, Guehi, (Defensive Fullbacks and DM) Walker, Rice, Shaw, (Creative 10s) Bellingham, Foden, (Attacking Wings and Forward) Saka, Kane, Gordon. This uses all the players in their natural positions and can be effective in retaining possession as we can create multiple passing options. That was sadly lacking in both the Serbia and Danish games. Also, the player nearest the ball should initiate the press, and be joined by two in cover to follow-up. You make the pitch as small as possible when pressing, and as big as possible when in possession. I saw nothing of this.
Yes that’s the formation I’d play next time out. It’s time to be bold
i love Stuart Pearce because he explains stuff a way I can appreciate, he was a master, made of steel & he’d use that Pistols album to gee the team up before leaving the dressing room.
Talksports’ Mike Dickin was good too because he’d always say “ my health is not in question “ - to then promptly die without warning.
Both very cool cats .
These pundits are clueless
How can you look so punch drunk by the second game against an intermediate national side like Denmark?
Gomez done an outstanding cover as left back for Liverpool!
Saka played well ? He didn’t do anything
Kane shouldn't be dropped, but he should be ordered to stay up front. It's absolutely baffling why he's dropping back when he's our lone striker. It's forcing us back and it's depressing to watch. It's worse than when he was taking corners in 2016. God help us :(
