    Thank you for this video!! I live not far from Lancaster and we have them living behind our house. I've always loved reptiles but i am understandably nervous because i have small children and pets. Our dog was actually bit a few years back at night in fall. This video and the fact that we've had little activity since helps ease my mind. Thank you for saving the snake and the useful information!! New subscriber here!!

      Sorry to hear about your pup. I know it adds a level of anxiety when they are near your home and not just on a trail. If you ever have any snake questions please reach out. We are glad to be a resource.

    Great video! Glad you explained that they're venomous, dangerous and not aggressive. So many people misunderstand and sometimes misinterpret snake behavior. If we leave them alone, use common sense and pay attention when outdoors, they'll gladly leave us alone too. I don't live in Pennsylvania and don't know the laws there but I think the right thing was to have it moved off the trail. Well done!

      Funny how people call snakes aggressive for biting when you grab them. I’d like to see how those same people react if someone cornered and grabbed them 😂😂

      I know I felt bad. I didn’t plan to relocate any snakes on my bike ride so the bottle was all I had on hand! 😂 I had seen 3 other snakes run over that day, and I wasn’t about to let him be the 4th!

      Good idea…I don’t usually put them in a container at all, just move them off the trail. And when I handle captive venomous snakes I would have appropriate transport containers….So it was a learning experience.

    As someone that has never bottled a snake 😉... I might have tipped the bottle on it's side and maybe lift it's head a little and once it feels a "cave" he will willingly go in 😆 that's my fairytale by someone that havs never tried to collect a venomous snake, even temporarily.

      I actually tried that too! It didn’t make the final cut of the video, because that part of the video was getting long already. And even though I knew where my hand was, I thought it looked too close on video and could set a bad example for viewers.

      @@ForgottenFriendReptileTV, I definitely appreciate how you work so hard and think so much about the appearance of things. For those reading this, he doesn't mean the physical look of it but the way it comes across. Say if someone saw him pick up a beer can and someone took a picture of it, the picture looks like he's drinking a beer. Rather than picking up litter.

    Are you not allowed special privileges given you are basically the only reptile rescue in the area? I thought you are often called to deal with situations involving reptiles? Just seems odd when you mentioned that you were basically breaking the law when you moved the snake.

    • @ForgottenFriendReptileTV
      @ForgottenFriendReptileTV  2 роки тому +3

      Excellent question. Yes we do have some permits as an organization, and we regularly assist authorities and individuals with reptile calls. But I always worry about appearances. If I’m on the trail in an unofficial capacity and someone observed me removing protected wildlife, it could look sketchy. My normal rule is to move wildlife across the trail, but that was a bad option based on the location and the crowd at that time, especially with a tiny copperhead who blends in on a leaf-covered trail. So I had to break my own rule and collect him briefly, and basically bend the letter of the law in order to serve the spirit of the law. As educators we have to be extremely careful what we put online, knowing people may emulate us. So I also wanted to make sure that viewers are aware of the laws as well. It’s a little complicated, but since a lot of people are watching, I need to be careful we are operating with integrity and respecting protected wildlife even while helping it. I don’t want to run into an officer who doesn’t know us and have a situation that looks bad. Great question though.
